Thank you so much for this. I make polymer clay jewelery in my oven and it just started burning and I found out it was running 25 too hot so you saved my business!
Excellent instructional video! My oven seemed to need re-calibration as everything cooked much slower than the directions indicated. Today I preheated the oven to 325 degrees to cook a spiral ham and tossed in a secondary thermometer. The moment the oven beeped announcing it was preheated, I checked the alternate thermometer and found the oven was 20 degrees off. I followed your directions , and now 325 is in fact 325. Woohoo! I don't have to use Kentucky Windage when baking anymore!
good to know I wish I knew yesterday so I would have had it ready on time today ...the only thing is I didn't know any of this till now ...but I am glad you posted this thank you! I really do appreciate it
Great video. I have been wondering why my cakes keep having to be go back 8n oven for 2-3-4-5 minutes. I’m going go buy a manual thermometer to see how much off my oven is so I can do this procedure. I have a similar Kenmore range. Thank you.
I have a 14 year old Kenmore Elite convection oven/flat top range. My problem is, once the oven reaches temperature reaches temperature accurately, it then cuts out and drops 40 degrees before cutting back in. This causes problems with baking. Is there an adjustment for the differential or do I have to replace the $300 board?
I have a frigidaire oven. After I enter the number that I want to increase which button should I press to complete the calibration? I saw you press "Start" button on a Kenmore oven after you are done. Thanks.
Hi Bill, thanks for sharing this video. I am trying to calibrate my Delonghi DE609MP but cant find the right sequence to get to calibration. Any other tips?
Hello Ken, a friend of mine calibrated my oven to +35. I need to change it to a higher number however, when I follow the same procedure it just keeps going back to the +35. Can this be changed? Thanks so much.
Bill it does not go to 0 when the bake is depressed after the 2 or three min I goes to error Any thoughts it looks the same as the one you were demonstrating on
Hello Bill, I have a Frigidaire stove where the numbers on the right side are no longer working, 3, 6, 9, Stop/cancel no longer work. W What would you recommend? Thanks
Hi, I have a GE stove that only displays the preset temperature in the oven but it won't show the actual temperature in the preheat stage I still heating but I don't know if any of the oven parts maybe damage.
Ours is the more basic Frigidaire model convection type it gets bottom of food especially biscuits too done(naked on 350) and tops almost perfect but could be better so I'm assuming it's cooking too fast so would you offset it to the negative right and if so by how much ?
a little bit confused...when you do the increase or decrease of the temperature, the + or - numbers stay there and automatically adjusts the temperature to the temperature shown? Or does it reset the temperature that is shown to the correct temperature?
So I have a kenmore dual fuel with the more basic up and down buttons. I tried this and it worked up until the point covered in the video but how do j make it accept the 25 degrees I needed to increase the temp by? I’ve pressed the clean button and all the others too but nothing makes the oven temp come back except hitting clear.
Bill Quick Question... I have a whirlpool stove and the oven temp is perfect. Issue I have is the default setting for lowest setting is 170f. I want default lowest setting 140f. Is there a way to adjust?
Hi sir. Thanks for your short and very useful video. It really helped me, but i can not not decrease the tempature.(first increase ,but right now could not decrease).Frigidaire FGEW3065pfd..Could you help me pls?? i really do appreciate it...
Hi, i need some help with my oven. Oven was at 350 and thermometer only read 325. I accidentally adj to -25. And when i measured it was now off by 50 degrees (oven at 350, thermometer at 300). I changed the setting to adj 25 but instead of matching the oven and thermometer reading (was hoping it would offset the 50 degree difference). But it was reading now reading (oven 350, thermometer 325). Now my oven always holds the adj 25, but i need it to go 25 degrees more due to the initial error i made. Any way to do fix this?
Initially, the oven would be set at 350 and it would set @ 325. I’ve tried calibrating it and now my temperature is at 275. How do I get it to 350 degrees?
Fine and dandy . But I purchase two oven thermometers. A Oxo for $13.00 and a Taylor for $8.00. At 350 for my oven. The Oxo says 330 and the Taylor says 348. Now which one do I use to calibrate my oven? Very frustrating not knowing which one is accurate.
The oven will have a different temperature from the front of the rack to the rear of the rack. It will show a different temperature on the bottom rack as much as 25 degrees from the top rack. Place your thermometer in the middle center of the oven and make the adjustment from there.
I've heard that it's ok if the oven is +/- 5-10 degrees, I guess just get it as close to 350 as you can plus or minus 5 degrees. so if the hotter thermoter says 348, I'd go up 7 degrees but that's just me.
Opps cut and pasted the comment I made from another video I watched. The other video showed a person using a thermometer. They looked at the temperature when the oven had shut off after reaching the set temperature.
What can you do if your oven is all over the map? Mine is either 50-100 ° cooler OR hotter than the display. Sometimes it gets stuck on a temp, even though I keep adjusting the display. It appears that I am doomed to continually check & adjust temps all through cooking, or get a new oven. If only I knew if the new one would be any better!
Bill: The item you are holding in your hand is not a thermostat. It is a thermometer. How do you know that the thermometer you are using to calibrate the oven in accurate?
OMG I'm finally getting rid of this POS induction glass top stove/oven!!!😜 & I just saw your video, awesome info..but I don't want to actually go through this trauma to use the stovetop and oven! I'm over the companies controlling how we live!! It's just unacceptable anymore! Just get me a back in the day..where WE control what we're using & Not the other way around! Both the stove top and oven have ruined more food than I can even begin to tell you.. on the stove when I wanted to boil it's simmers when I wanted to simmer it boils and if I do it that way and walk away it does the opposite even then.. Just ridiculous! But I thank you that at least at the end, you help me figure a way to correct it!😮😊😢
Good stuff, thanks for sharing. How can you be sure the oven thermometer is reliable ? If you search on RUclips for : Equipment Review: Best Oven Thermometers made by America's Test Kitchen it looks like many thermometer are not reliable...
That's OK. After you get F1 try the following: 1 - press bake again - you should see a 2 digit number 2 - touch bake again to alternate between setting a hotter or colder setting 3 - if you see a minus sign in front of the number it will let you calibrate down 4 - press bake again to get rid of the minus sign so you can calibrate upwards 5 - once you settle on minus or not minus just dial in the number of degrees you want it to change by using the number pad as usual 6 - after setting the up or down number you want press Start You are now done Hope this helps. Otherwise look for a user guide by doing a web search for your range make & model. *UPDATE* Watch This Video for other problems with F1 *How to Fix an F1 Error On a Kenmore or GE Range* ruclips.net/video/DejFOQWfBpw/видео.html]
This is incorrect. To accurately calibrate an oven temperature you should use a digital thermometer and take note of the up and down temp swing. The temperature in an oven does not stay the same constantly. You should find the average temp and adjust based on that. An oven will usually preheat to 15+ degrees higher than set temp to account for door being opened to add food. It will then drop down as much as 25 degrees below set temp before cycling back on to maintain an average temp. This is repeated throughout the cooking process. Calibration usually isn't necessary on old machines as improper cooking normally indicates a failed component such as temp probe, control board, or element/burner.
I am unable to calibrate my oven, I accidentally added only 35 degrees and this number shows up when I try to recalibrate. How do I change this ? I have a kenmore 790.49523311 model. Thank you very much for you help I am unable to find anyone to help and hope you can tell me what to do . thank you very much

Worked like a charm!
worked like a charm man
It worked just as you said! Thank you!
That's nice. But how do you know that the cheap little made in China oven thermometer you have there is anywhere close to being accurate?
thank you for this essential info!
Ok, I'm going to try this. My oven heats about 30 degrees less than what I want. It's gas...I hope I can get it to work like this. Thanks!
Worked perfectly

Bill, please do an updated version for newer models.
Hello Ken, a friend of mine calibrated my oven to +35. I need to change it to a higher number however, when I follow the same procedure it just keeps going back to the +35. Can this be changed? Thanks so much.
just gotten a new house and i found out the oven was not at the right temperature. i thought i was going to have to take it apart to do this. thanks
Bill it does not go to 0 when the bake is depressed after the 2 or three min I goes to error
Any thoughts it looks the same as the one you were demonstrating on
Really helpful, thanks very much!

For sure! Thanks for Watching!
So on a basic model you run the thermostat plus or minus and just let it go with that? Or do you have to press the bake button again to confirm?
If the stardard oven lowest temp is 175 can you make it go to 150 or 155?
on your second example you did say set your oven to 550 degrees did you mean 350?
Thank you so much, good job

I thought you wanted the average temperature instead of the max temperature. This is much easier.

I noticed that the best way to do the job is CALL A PROFESSIONAL
Add ice to water. Water freezes at 32 degrees.
what makes you think that $15 dollar oven thermostat is accurate?
Great video! one suggestion...use the word "thermometer" not thermostat. Other than that Awesome job!
Didn't work...held the bake and a F1 code came up....why
That's OK. After you get F1 try the following:
1 - press bake again - you should see a 2 digit number
2 - touch bake again to alternate between setting a hotter or colder setting
3 - if you see a minus sign in front of the number it will let you calibrate down
4 - press bake again to get rid of the minus sign so you can calibrate upwards
5 - once you settle on minus or not minus just dial in the number of degrees you want it to change by using the number pad as usual
6 - after setting the up or down number you want press Start
You are now done
Hope this helps.
Otherwise look for a user guide by doing a web search for your range make & model.

Try finding an accurate oven thermometer! See comments below!
Crap..i have a maytag..ugh..
Bill was a little off Re: basic units.
My basic Frigidaire.
First check your oven temperature with your thermometer-- are you over or under? By how much? Remember that number.
Here's how mine works.
Ready or not here I come!
Start with a cold oven.
This first step is for a LOW oven temperature.
Push BAKE. Push ARROW UP twice, the first push shows factory preset of 350deg. on the display. The second time push and HOLD ARROW UP untill 550deg. shows on the display. Now here's the trick.
Quickly, very quickly move from ARROW UP too BAKE. and HOLD BAKE. Be sure your finger is fully on the button under the pad! This should take 5 to 7 seconds to switch over.
Your display should now read 35
That 35 represents a (plus 35deg. number)
Let go of BAKE.
Push ARROW DOWN repeatedly. See the numbers decrease by increments of 5s, these are PLUS deg. numbers. They will appear as follows. 35 30 25 20 etc. STOP on the needed plus deg. number. let go of ARROW UP. on your needed PLUS deg. number. Push BAKE. Your needed PLUS number is now locked in.
Now the display should automatically switch over too clock.
As an example: let's say you want 400deg. but your oven thermometer reads 375 deg. Stop on the number 25. Push BAKE. Let go. Your oven will lock in and ADD that 25 plus number to make the 400deg. The display should automatically go too clock after a second or two. Check oven temperature to see if it's 400deg. Your factory preset is the Holy Grail! You can also check the oven temperature against the 350deg.factory preset with your thermometer.
This second step is for a HIGH oven temperature. Follow the procedure as above, push ARROW DOWN repeatedly past 0 into the minus numbers. They will appear as follows.
-5 -10 -15 -20 etc. Push the ARROW DOWN repeatedly in increments of 5s to the needed (minus) number. Let go of ARROW DOWN on the needed minus number. Push BAKE too lock in that number. Your display should automatically switch over too clock.
REMEMBER! Now your SUBTRACTING deg. numbers.
If you should pass any needed number going up or down you can use ARROW UP or ARROW DOWN to scroll.
I noticed that when I pushed BRIOL HI the heating element wasn't glowing very brightly so I pushed and HELD Broil HI for a couple of seconds. I heard a clicking sound and the element glowed brightly. This step may also control Broil LOW.
All of this WILL NOT be stored after a power outage.
OY VAY! Such a commotion !
He is incorrect. Those thermo's are does not read correct in just a few min's yo have to wait 15 mins. I suggest digital thermo so you get instant temps.
Well, since I live in a rental with a vintage (non-digital) oven, this was not helpful at ALL.
THANKS!
