What? Only 11 comments. Since nothing for the last 3years, I’m dropping this to keep the gravy train rolling. You’re a great trainer. So much to appreciate but my fave was the tempo of your speech. This was made 9yrs ago? But is still very relevant today and honestly the best video to diagnose an oven, warming tray, cloths dryer…anything that produces heat with an element and has a switch. I’m no RUclips expert. But this video deserves to be on the top for diagnostics.
Bill, the diode cuts the power to the element by half during operation after the thermostat trips. Basically the element will heat fast then slow down after the temp of the thermostat is reached.
I think the strange double neutral configuration prevents overheating by allowing the heating element to cool down by cutting half the power to it. If the thermal cutoff trips the white neutral will be disconnected but the diode in the red neutral will still allow half the AC current to flow. When the thermal cutoff resets itself then we have full power again.
Hi Bill, I was wondering if you had any idea what to do about a warming drawer that has become as hot as the oven. We can't use the warming drawer anymore because it's not functioning properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Bill... can you help me? I am trying to do a good dead while my housemate is out of town. It is her house and she has a Samsung electric stove with the bottom as a warming drawer. That draw has only opened 3 inches since I have been living here. I was able to get the drawer open, by pulling it past that sticking point. Then I unslid the drawer to see if I could tell what is making it stick. It seems to stick on both sides where, on both sides of the inner glider, there is a set of small metal triangles that stick out. I don't really know if that has anything to do with it, and I cannot seem to find any information about this issue on line. Please share any ideas you have about this...thank you.

Bill, The intro brought back childhood memories for me! I enjoyed your video and learned a little more about appliances, thank you!
