it has always amazed me how Neil Young can instantly go from grunge rock, to the sweetest slow ballads without missing a step...He is truly one of the most unique musicians of all time....
Me 2
agreed !!!!!
that's why my bandmates and I call him 1 note Neil. amazing switch from hard to soft .
Talent
John, just so good, better than good in fact and accompanied by a bunch of top pros, simply stunning
Serious props to the sound guy for mixing this so you can hear Willie’s guitar alongside Old Black!
Stumbled across this purely by accident and thought I'd give it a listen.......there are no words that can do this justice. Absolutely first class and Neil Young who I have always been a massive fan of just nails this. Fantastic musicianship throughout and everyone's input is heard loud and clear but anyone who down voted this needs immediate psychiatric assessment. Marvellous rendition and outstanding effort from all.
I concur with your conclusion!
the real deal
Neil young helped me get over my fear of dancing in public
If Neil can do that and get away with it.....
Man, you're funny🍺🍺🍺
I expect his 7th grade dance date had diamond shoes since that was his thing- sometimes his nose almost touches the dance floor.
😂
Dance baby, just dance! It feels so good!
Neil sings the body electric - he lives every note
❤❤❤❤skide godt. Det røde tørklæde er smidt og serukativ på blusen
som passer på dig.
Hyldest her fra Danmark.
Vi kan sgu vi ældre. Du har altid sunget og spillet fra hjertet og musikken. Dit livsværk.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Dylan, Jimi, Neil.....doesn't matter which version you prefer, this should be required viewing for all current so called rockers. The song is captivating from start to finish. Simply amazing !
Werner Lämmerhirt played the best version
the Grateful Dead played this often in the late 80's & did it nicely too.
Yup! Doesn't get much better.
Don't forget to mention Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush's studio version. Frank's vocal the most like Jimi's than anyone else.
Hendrix version is tops!
I've been listening 🎶 😌 to Neil Young for nearly 50yrs and he is all music 🎶 and he really jams! I never get tired of listening 🎶 to his music 🎶 🎵. He's a great writer 👏 .
stop showing your age heheh im 57 and ive been listenin to him frmo knee highg to a grasshopper lol
Agreed. I listen to him or,someone covering him, every night.
Neil Young never disappoints. This is an inspired version and one of the best.
Long live Neil and Willie Nelson, two of the best performers of our time.
I get goosebumps every time I hear Neil Young perform this song. Gives this song a whole new life. Beautiful
He just puts his whole soul and body into his songs. Love it.
That's right! This is real!!! Heart and soul; raw and dirty - what rock and roll should be all about.
Anyone else watching during quarantine?
You bet.
Yes indeed. You gotta keep rockin'
I have a playlist of over 50 versions/covers of ‘All along the Watchtower” so am always looking to add - but this is amazing - watch Willie Nelson’s fingerwork throughout - outstanding.
Willie was definitely focusing, trying to figure out where Neil was going next
He owns that shit.
yes he does, he owns all his shit!! Follower since 68!!!!!
This music will never die. It may retreat to the shadows at times but is always ready to start again. Thank goodness.
That’s because he’s a musical storyteller
Relevant today 29 August 2021 remember this
And God bless you for tellin' this. God bless you.
I have no faith. Ask any six-year-old their favorite music. Ask any 15 year old, really. Different age. Men have been saying this since the dawn of time. youth is wasted on the young. Remember it?
light a candle for where we're goin'
Brilliant is the understatement of the century. The man's a living legend.
Respect Mr Young👊👍👏
Unfortunately can not do Southern belle
I have seen Neil literally a dozen times live over the years, with CSN, Prairie Wind, the awesome rock opera Greendale... but when he is with his hand picked back up band of 40 plus years, Crazy Horse, you can feel that Neil is with family, and he becomes totally comfortable and truly lets his muse take over.
Which is why his best songs and most known hits decade after decade after decade is with his homies.
Spectacular. The best rendition ever of this song. Neil Yong is a genius. And to think it was recorded live, to boot.
live and free! for charity! respect
And Willie just stands there and strums his beat up, hole growing bigger every year guitar. Pure class as always.
I love how so many musicians share this wonderful song. Young knocks it out of the park, look at the energy he has! That’s what i’m talking about
Neil is having fun ... i like watching willie laugh in the background thanks for the vid
willie provides the wisdom.
Me too, I'm in my 6th decade. This is the ROCK we had then
it's still here, viable & relevant as ever, Much like; Last trip to Tulsa, 5th decade on & still garden fresh in our collective existence
And that rock is still with us now, 2020 going into 2021! Lovin it!
Neil, Crazy Horse and old black. Doesn't get any better.
the older I get the better Neil gets ... hes up near supernova level :-)
Just discovered this version now. Always thought Jimi's was the best, this one is simply amazing. These boys rock
Neil transforms a 2:30 masterpiece into an 8:13 masterpiece.
Where have all the good times gone?.....
One of the very best songs ever written. And this performance.... Wow. Neil really understands the lyrics
Epic. Neil Young has the most epic electric guitar tone I've ever heard. This performance here is studio-take quality.
I agree, not overdriven to the ridiculous levels metal players use, just enough to give it that gritty kick it needs
Try kashmir celebration day for bbfs
Steven Wilson has similar live tone they put distrtion pedals before delay and reverb
And he's damn good on the acoustic guitar too plus the harmonica
I love how Neil can completely and utterly own this song when he didn't write it. Jamtastic.
Neil showed me how to just be myself don't need to be a widdler being real is soo much better than tryin to be the next yngwie Steve via an all other pretentious widdlers soz if I offend anyone 😋
Hendrix, right ? ;-)
@@dabble778,
Bob Dylan
@@PurpleObscuration yeah dylan wrote it but even he later said jimis version is THE watchtower, and whenever he plays it he’s paying tribute to jimi

A song you never want to end...
Unreal, spark up a Willie Nelson and turn the old volume knob up
Never seen Neil rock this hard, but I have to say he really nailed it! Great cover!
Absolutely the best version ever performed of this song. Neil Young's incredible energy and guitar wizardry backed up by an amazing bass player sends you soaring into the stratosphere.
Incredibly talented. Bet there’s never been a dull moment when these legendary guys get together, Damn I wish I was there, what a show!!
The best performance ever of this song.
fabulous.... thats it, just freaking fabulous!!
Bob Dylan truly deserved a Nobel prize for an unbelievable library of great songs. Thank you Neil for taking the song to another level. Both Bob and Neil are getting on in years. We need the great rockers to survive Coronavirus, and lead mankind to a brighter day. RIP Alan Merrill. Keep on rockin' wherever you may go.
It's sad, but no one can ever match Bob or Neil. Some treasures never appear again, once they're gone that's it.
Much more so than that fraud Bob Dylan
This was a great performance! Neil Young is incredible!
Glad u enjoyed it !!
He knows how to rock the house.
I put this yt performance down as one of his best

Neil Young is a Rock God,Canadian Rock God
i love u
Rock God? Canadian God?? ...How about just God?!! Man, I though I'd discovered perfection in David Gilmour. But there's perfection, ...and then there's also mind-blowing perfection.
Neil Young is the best of all performers!
Yah freakin’ hoo!
I think Jimi & Bob would approve the groove
🌎🌊🌲🔥🌪 ❤️
How great can old rockers be! This is best version of this song. May the genius of Neil Young never end. Nothing today equals what was. I play these great music videos and I mean great music , for my guitar playing granddaughter. Hoping she will rock out someday.
Willie rocking out. Right on!!!
The look Willie Nelson was giving Neil Young there at the end . . . like, 'Wow.'
This song from good ol´Jimmi wanders from soul to soul ..on ..and on......
“Two riders were approaching.” Incredible.
Neil has been a big part of my life since 1976, he is the very essence of music.
I used to love this man. Now, I am 63 and i love him cause he made my soul open. French woman.

NEIL YOUNG & HIS MUSIC: HAS MY GOLDEN YOUTH TIED UP IN SILVER WRAPPING WITH A RUBY -COLOURED BOW.
Watching this video, I’m filled with joy & smiling. Music is getting me through quarantine.
Me too. I've discovered great music like this and great writers like Chris Hedges who I would never have known.
Amen
This is the best version i ever heard . the words are the image of our present world
I don't know who the bass player is, but from the looks of it he is having the time of his life.
His name is Billy Talbot, a member of the Crazy Horse Band.
When I see Neil in the Old Black zone like this, I think of Stephen Stills' comment about Neil's "spear in the back dance". Seems to describe it perfectly.
I'm glad Neil is working security. He makes the world a much better place, and he knows what rules to enforce -- justice, equality, humanity and, most importantly, taking care of our environment. He's a great musician and a great person. Crazy Horse is awesome too.
Thanks for the post.
I was wondering where he got that T shirt? Like your take on it much better. Well stated beachbum!
This version rocks so hard !!!! !
Not a music expert, and before I write my thoughts on this video, let it be known. I seen Willie and Family live 3 times, I seen Neil and Crazy horse twice, would have been 3 times, but he got sick and had to cancel his show at the St Paul Civic Center because he was sick, and had to stay at a local hospital. All Along the Watch Tower by Hendrix has been my number 1 song since I first heard it in 76. And I also cry everytime I watch Neil close out the Canadian olympics. If I put the 4 or 5 greatest singers of all time, on a stage with who I feel are the 4 or 5 greatest guitarists of all time. Then put Neil in the mix for that, I will walk away remember Neil just for his presence and passion alone. Which brings me to the song of Green Grass and High Tides. When I hear that song, I think of Hendrix, Joplin, Elvis, Sinatra, and yes, Neil Peart. However, I also think of Young being on that stage commanding the whole damn thing, because that is what Neil did without even trying, He just commanded the whole damn stage. Thank you Neil Young for letting me be a part of your life, even though it was only from a distance.
best song in the world Peace and love from norway
Wish I was there.
...oh my goodnes...simply the best...so happy having seen him last year at Ziggo Dome...finally...Godfather of Rock...
Hvis jeg havde råd ville jeg ønske du kunne komme til Danmark o spille for min mand. Han er og altid været fan af dig.

Neil spans the decades (no pun intended)! Nice cover.
Light years ahead of the old old days when you had 4 acoustic guitars all doing the same thing. A jam and a half. Looking for a leader 2020. Thank you Neil.
I think everyone including the very best, respect Neil Young's talent. Living legend.
I have loved Willie Nelson send I was a kid. And still do and I am 57..lol
