    It seems to me a lot of the recipes have changed when the company changed. Hostess products do not have the fluffy cream inside instead there is some sweet thick sickening cream that kind of destroys the original taste. I'm sure it has something to do with shelf life

    • @hisava
      @hisava 15 дней назад +3

      I saw a video on YT about the comeback of Hostess and one of the owners said shelf life of the Hostess products has been increased since the products are no longer shipped directly to stores but to distribution centers first, so you are 100%

    • @vlrissolo
      @vlrissolo 15 дней назад +2

      @hisava well I certainly can tell. The Fluffy cream that used to be inside all the hostess products is a thick sweet mush I think Drake's cakes has them beat but I don't need to be eating that anyway LOL! I just assumed make my own chocolate cake with whipped cream icing which I don't need to be eating either!😁❤️👍

    I remember back in the 60s and 70s. Life Savers candy came in 22 or 23 different flavors such as grape, orange, lemon, cinnamon,tangerine, fancy fruits,and many others. In addition I also wish that they would. bring back Life Savers lollipops and chewing gums. Let us also not forget Dolly Madison's cakes and fruit pies😊.

    Chunky, I know a bit about the reason they were removed from shelves. I was neighbors with a biologist. His original job was health inspection. Inspecting a Supermarket “Pathmark,” he sighted Chunky’s in violation, because the original packaging wasn’t sealed, as it sat on the shelf. It was like a waxy foil that was folded.

    Not all of these snacks ended, especially with Hostess selling their recipes to other bakery companies for production.
    Production continued at Hostess, but they were scaling down while the legal paperwork was being administrated. Once the paperwork was signed and legalized, the new bakery companies that bought the Twinky and Ding Dong recipes (and some others) were put into full production as Hostess stopped.
    I lived off Ding Dongs most of my life. But when Hostess sold some of their recipes, these other companies changed many ingredients to cheaper more chemically constructed ingredients. And Ding Dongs didn't taste the same, nor did they have the same consistency or the same amount of filling in them. They also shrank in size.
    My favorite snack cake was dead to me after that.
    What I miss the most though, are Tangerine Lifesavers. I was MAJORLY addicted to those! They disappeared in the late 80's. Sad.

    What was the name of those cheese-filled pretzel nuggets? I discovered them in 1980, shortly after my husband and I were married. I was looking for a snack for him at the store, found those, and he loved them. Wonder if they are still around today?
    Decades earlier, in the fifties I remember my grandma had a tin full of these pretzel balls, about the size of cranberries. My five-year-old self loved those!
    She would also give me coffee-flavored charms, like square life savers with an indent instead of a hole.
    Hubby and I still miss the Yum-Yum cookies, coconut-flavored, chocolate-covered cookie ovals in a box.
    Last snack remembrance, state cookies. They came in a box, the same cookie-type as the girl scout trefoils, but shaped like the various states of the union.

    I was so glad that Twinkies came back, they have been my favorite for a long time. My "birthday cake" at two years old was a pair of twinkies with a candle stuck in each one. Moonpies are great too, microwave a chocolate one for like 30 seconds and it's gooey and delicious.

    Drake’s Ring Dings! Trying to smooth out the super thin blue and silver foil the chocolate puck came wrapped in with the back of your thumbnail without tearing it. Yodels, too, though not as rewarding, foil-wise. But Funny Bones!! The best snack cake ever created. Nothing beats Drake’s Cakes. Last I knew they were only sold in New England, maybe NY and NJ. Cake does not taste the same. Chunky went from pecans to peanuts. Although that is still one candy I love. Cadberry had a fruit and nut bar too Use to love it. Now its just ah. We miss chewing on Super Elastic Bubble Plastic like bubble gum.
    Kinda washed down the flavor of the homemade gummies we made with our gummy kits, the ones that used chemicals that are all probably illegal now. That's okay, we then could chew on non-toxic Silly Putty, never mind we did so after copying comics and stuff off of newspapers who all used toxic inks. That's okay, we could then gag on non-toxic Play Dough we shaped into pretend food, washing it down with non-toxic white glue, and then use the white glue to ineffectively seal off wounds we made when using the right handed safety scissors with our left handed hand.

      @@davidpar2 That would be nice but it's easier said than done. It's a very complex topic. The food manufacturers long ago learned how to get people addicted to their "treats", and their lobbyists blazed the trail. Sugar and certain additives are as addictive as drugs, and they know this.
      Our food pyramid is purposefully upside-down. You really do have to be a smart and informed person to get past all of it. And yes, you have to be disciplined. That comes from education, and our system is sadly lacking. The food kids get in schools is abhorrent, and they're never taught about real nutrition.
