The Beefsteak was my favorite too, wish they would bring it back. I also worked at McD’s when the sandwich first came out, around 1980. The beef patty shaped like a steak with onions, and steak sauce on a roll. I’d always have one when I went on break, that or a double cheese burger with ketchup only. It’s sad, the quality and taste of the food has declined, burgers and fries don’t taste the same.

I worked at McDonald’s in the summer of 1979. At my location, I was the first employee to grill the Chopped Beefsteak Sandwiches. I thought it was funny that the patties had lines pressed into them to create the appearance of grill marks after they were cooked on a flat grill. I had to be gentle when searing the patties as too much pressure would flatten out the “grill marks”. I believe that different meat was used for these as the texture and taste was much different than the hamburgers.
During that summer, I didn’t have much of an appetite for any McDonald’s food but thinking about it now, I sure would love to have one of those steak sandwiches again.
