How did their most famous sandwiches and burgers come to be, and who started it all? Join us as we trace the beginnings of the Big Bac, the Filet-o-fish, and the very humble menu of offerings that McDonald's gave to the world at the very sart!

I miss the actual Dollar Menu, their salad shakers, the snack wraps, and the all day breakfast. I sure hope it comes back soon.
All day breakfast is still thing in many places, at least here in Ontario it’s at every location
@@darkbrightnorth not here in northern Alabama though.
Franchisees hated all day breakfast, Covid killed it and they'll never bring it back.
🙏
All their food is shit. How can you miss eating shit?
Bring back the dollar menu!
I think it was a decade long promo
I wouldn’t feed my animals for a dollar, have a bit more self worth my friend
@@Graeme_Norgate smh that makes no sense. If the economy was better and inflation reduced, prices would normalize and you could actually afford food for even your pets at a $1. Im in my 30s and remember a time when a can of pet food cost a $1.
The REAL Dollar menu…
Belgian here. It still exists in my neck of the woods (don’t know about other Euro countries). It’s called Eurodeals.
you forgot the Bagel breakfast sandwiches. The Steak, Egg, & Cheese is simply fantastic. Glad they brought it back.
Indeed. There was no mention of biscuit sandwiches either.
What about the Big and Tasty? It was a burger with everything on it, and the beef patty was the biggest sized patty they had on the menu. For the short time I worked at McDonald’s is when they introduced it. I I used to love it. I believe it lasted over a year.
Wasn’t that basically just the quarter pounder deluxe?
i knew i was forgetting one. the B&T was a staple in our orders for as long as it lasted
@@trapez77 it is. But now with a new name and triple the price!
Its still in Europe!
@@Windruzhed What?!? Now I’m jealous!
And Spurlock, a closet alcoholic, passed off his terrible blood work as being caused from Micky Ds. Even the doc in the film couldn't believe it and turns out, rightly so.
THANK YOU! We should stop celebrating this man and pointing out what he actually was; A lying drunkard.
Didn’t he pass away a few weeks ago?
There's no $1-2-3 any longer. Nothing on the menu is $1. The last item priced at $1 was the soda, and that ended in 2022.
they even ended refills
That's Bidenomics!
It's a seasonal thing in Canada
The most important thing McDonald’s needs to bring back is the obvious one, better prices
And they coke literally pays him them in Russian Dollars to store their syrup after they extract and sell the cocaine to the Cuban Drug Cartel!
You left out the donut sticks and the buttermilk chicken tenders.
11:19 mark, they mentioned the Buttermilk Chicken Tenders.
What they missed were pop corn chicken!! That crap was so good!
8:48 fun fact… the Guantanamo Bay McDonald’s still serves Mighty Wings
As a torture method or an actual food item?
The McDonald's menu song lives rent free in my head, so it's nice to finally see what the heck the McDLT was.
Missed the pies, they used to have apple, cherry & blueberry. Also had McDonald Land cookies, and Chocolate Chip ,,they even had hot dogs for a short time.
For me their simpler items will always be their best.
Fun Fact: The Cheddar McMelt which failed in the US became McD's best selling burger in Brazil to this day. So much so that all other burgers franchises and local burger joints ALL have a version of it on their menu. It literally changed the culture.
It’s been over 35 years and I still remember enjoying the Cheddar Melt sandwich. It was delicious!
I loved the Angus burgers
The angus ⅓ pounder? Yeah. The mushroom and swiss was great, but they had several ways you could order them. Those were great. . .
I don’t eat meat 🍖
Then why did you comment? @@PraveenSrJ01
@@AVWUVU great point 🙂
@@PraveenSrJ01. Bye
"It's YOU! McMUFFIN!"
-Drunk guy, Super Bad 😂
McMuffin; isn’t that when an audience considers a plot device that’s important yet insignificant?
@@chrismayer3919 Well since you put it that way...no. lol Probably
I think you missed the Big and Tasty in the list, it was pretty good for those of us who like tomato. The snack wrap was the best thing they've had on the menu though. It sucks when they brought it back it was like twice the price of a mcchicken or mcdouble so defeated the purpose of a supposed "snack". My buddies and I used to get 2 of them for each of us and go hiking or whatever making it a genuinely healthy fast food option cause it wouldn't upset our stomachs and wasn't greasy.
They need to bring back the chicken tenders they were so good!
Nobody seems to remember the McTeriyaki burger. It was a regular bun with a sausage patty, lettuce, and teryaki mayo sauce. So good! I've only had them at 2 locations: One in Tennesse, and the other in Sasebo, Japan!
7:43 Awesome to see that George Constanza made it his summer by advertising the DLT.
I just want my snack wraps again
me too nishki
@@Riot7801 10 years in the joint..................
Here in Canada in about 2006-2010 we had a Southwest Chicken burger. It was freaking delicious. Ciabatta bun, southwest sauce, letttuce, tomato and chicken. I miss it terribly.
Their butter milk crispy tenders were so good, I still miss them whenever I eat McNuggets
Thanks for so useful and informative video as always ❤❤❤
Left out the goated jalapeño McDouble. Best thing they’ve ever made.
Bring back the Big Mac dipping sauce
I would like to hear the history and find out whatever happened to zesto's
It still exists in Nebraska
@@austinpena5605 oh I wish we still had them here when I was a kid I used to love their fish baskets
They have a couple other of locations in Atlanta!
I heard of this resturant but haven't seen any here in social area yet. I also would like a video on this.
I actually got to have their pizza many times over the years, as I worked in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and the McDees at the Barbary Coast across the strip serve it at the time. It was always made to order, so always fresh and it wasn't bad and the cost was cheap as well, not a bad pizza. The McDLT is hands down my favorite McDonald's item they ever served over the years, and I can't remember how many I ate for the few years it was available, but it was a lot. Cool video, thanks for the walk back in time.
I miss the mcdlt. I loathe hot lettuce and usually leave it off.
12:06 I love the Pokémon Go joke about Pokémon appearing at McDonald's.
Don’t forget the popcorn chicken In the 2010s. If we as a people forget to bring it up in stuff like this it will never come back! 😢
I miss the angus burgers 😢
Too dry
Their sundaes debuted in 1977, you forgot to add that
Cleveland Ohio got the beloved Michael Dean Perry burger, the M.D.P. Burger in the early 90s. That joint was a TREAT as a kid. It was huge!
I wish that mcdonalds couldn't say they have $1 menu at all, nothing has been $1 in several years here
The chicken fajitas stayed around until the introduction of the snack wrap. I absolutely loved them, and it's one of the older items that I'd want to see come back.
In my area, the salad shakers showed up around 98 or 99. The Arch Deluxe showed up in 99.
As a kid growing up in the 80's I have fond, and sometimes painful, memories of the lava filled fried apple and cherry pies.
I remember Chicken McNuggets from as early at 1979. I ate them in 1982.
Not sure if this can be included but you forgot to include the infamous Mulan Szechuan Sauce 😁
All day breakfast was my favorite
Thanks for this! 🍟
This video danced around more than Mexican Jumping Beans.
Need all day breakfast to return!
Come to Canada where it still lives on.
I miss the chicken snack wraps and the southwest salad 😢
7:46 The McDLT is one of my top Lost Foods.
Still irritated they didn't bring back the Southwest salad.
2:11 The "All American" in that ad is pure genius, that meal should be on the menu!
Quarter pounder with a tub of hot mustard and a handful of fries. Beauty.
Fun fact, McCafe was an aussie invention. Born in Melbourne, Australia at a McDonalds restaurant in 1993.
I want the arch deluxe back, the big and tasty, the sauteed onion and swiss melt, the salad shakers and just the salads in general. And then when I worked there in 2018, they had a special burger that had bacon jam and some really good honey mustard on it. Those are the best items to me!
In the UK less than a year ago they briefly put the philly cheese steak burger on the menu and it was delicious. I believe it was a limited time seasonal item
You did awesome narrator 😊
How were Delligatti and Bernardin allowed to add their Big Mac and Quarter Pounder inventions to their respective restaurants? Wasn't Ray Kroc a stickler for additional menu items not being allowed, to maintain consistency?
Shareholder majority rules
The new Daily Double with a small fry for $3.50 is where it's at.
i love mcdonalds but every year become more expensive so i dont eat there often anymore. In the netherlands the burgers are smaller than a few years ago aswell.
Angus burger was so good, that real cheese just hit
The muffins have become smaller today than what I remember back then
Sadly, there was no mention that McDonald’s sold fried chicken for a brief period in the 1960’s.
Chicken Selects were my favorite menu item that McDonald's ever did. Also that jalapeno quarter pounder is probably my favorite sandwich they did (beyond McRib).
I wish they would bring back those polystyrene containers! It definitely makes the burgers taste better! Long live the old skool! 😍
You didn't mention Steak breakfast bagels, there were threeof them. The Southwest omelet steak bagel was my favorite.
they're back in some parts of the country! i live in florida and they're here. the breakfast sauce is just as good as i remembered it being.
The Mc DLT was the TRUTH!!! 😅
why specific hamburger McDLT?
You're right about that, it was so good!
For me it was the 80’s menu. Back then the food was always hot and fresh.
80’s Vibe
The McCheddar Melt (or Cheddar McMelt as we call it) is one of the best selling burgers here in Brazil, but legend says it was created and only sold here. I’m astonished that it was a late 80s creation and didn’t last long. Can’t wait to tell everybody about it
I really miss the Super Size option, so does my Cardiologist
Jennifer Lawrence ordered a happy meal from her handler during the Oscars in 2013.
That was the ceremony she won Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook.
Bring back the McDLT!!!
And the Grand Mac!!!!
My favorite was the 99 cent Big Mac. I will NOT pay $7 for that sandwich.
The McBratwurst was offered for a limited time in Wisconsin in 2000's. It wasn't bad, I would always get two. One for now and one for the munchies later.
Snack wraps and McSkillet Burritos were always my go-to items. Worked there from 2007-11 so I was always getting the better burrito option for my breakfast break
Love the McSkillet Burrito!
I hope the Filet-O-Fish never goes off the menu. It might not be the best fish sandwich around, but it sure does hit the spot for me!
Where's the Apple Pies ? Of course, the Apple Pies were ruined by baking them
Yes! You mentioned us! Uniontown, PA in the shopping center the Big Mac was "created". They tore down that location in the early 2000's and moved it a couple hundred feet away. Pittsburgh claims and is often mentioned as being the first location and it's aggravating.
1) @4:20: Jim Delligatti *did not* invent the Big Mac. What he did was make an inferior copy of the signature Big Boy Burger from a nearby Bob's Big Boy restaurant.
2) @5:10: I must have been part of the 3-year test program for the Egg McMuffin. During the 72/73 school year at University of Wisconsin, Madison, they were trying it out. It was served open-faced on a flat Styrofoam platter along with a small tub of strawberry preserves and a plastic knife. I loved it, but it wasn't until the third visit that I overcame my American objection to mixing sweet&savory and actually applied the preserves to the sandwich. For those of us who remember, we can still request a packet of strawberry preserves to accompany or Egg McMuffin, and I still do.
If you google McDonalds prices all I found was they once had 15 cent hamburgers when I know I paid 12 cents around 1958. As a little kid if I had a dollar I would get a 12 cent french fry and 12 cent burger, sit on the nice tile bench built into the building and watch them cut huge potatoes with a big hand press. Not only was everything better, seems like hamburgs had a more meat in them!
I got a job 90 miles from home. My 1st day i went to McDonald's. Got the big breakfast platter.
1988 with the California Rasins👏🏾❗️
I miss the steak breakfast burrito. The sausage one is fine, but the steak one was on a whole other level.
“It’s a number two, which is two cheeseburgers, but I get it without the cheese or any condiments. It’s just the meat and the bun; the fries; a Dr. Pepper or a Coke, depending on the day; and then a McFlurry,” she said." (Emma Stone's frequent McDonald's order - Allrecipes)
They need to bring back those buttermilk chicken strip selects and the jalapeño mc double
Why isn't the steak egg and cheese bagel on this list???? Best menu item ever.......
A few of those things will make someone’s arteries as hard as marble
As an Aussie I'm proud to say McDonald's McCafé was first introduced in Melbourne in 1993 in recognition of Australia's coffee culture.
not bringing back the fruit and yogurt parfait is criminal
Thanks for this! I hope the menu retrospectives become a series. I'd love to see a comprehensive history of the Starbucks menu at some point. They've come a long way from only selling bags of coffee and tea and are kind of all over the place with the selection now, but it's interesting how they've responded to trends and set some of their own over the years.
Flashback in the late June of 2024
$.19 for a cheeseburger in 1953 is about $2.26 today.
2:36 For the record, nobody in Des Plaines pronounces it like that. They say "Dehs Planes".
The white cheddar and onion burger 😊
No talk of the humongous sized meals? Bucket of fries and a 44 Oz soda.
In the late 70's early 80's New England McDonald's sold lobster rolls in the summers.
I heard somewhere McDonald’s is bringing the dollar menu back, my favorite item of all time was the McDLT, I think that needs to come back in the worst way
I would love to see something on arthur treacher's fish and chips, i grew up with it and it seemed so great.
I for one miss the super size meals. They were some of the most bang for buck fast food you could get at the time.
The Dollar Menu was great value, and all day breakfast. Here on the West Coast we had Garlic Fries for a while, especially when there was the Gilroy Garlic Festval. Really miss the deep fried pies though, KFC had something similar but they called them Apple Turnovers.
Why exactly can't we have all day breakfast anymore? Covid is greatly reduced now
What about the Big-N-Tasty sandwich from the early 2000’s?
Steak Bagel sandwich?
Hot-N-Spicy Chicken sandwich?
The McDouble?
DO AN EPISODE ABOUT AUTOMATS
Bring back chicken selects!!!!😢
No idea if it was Canada only, but there was a ~2 year span where all the larger-than-regular burgers (1/4 pounder, mcchicken, etc) were switched to a ciabatta bread equivalent. Hated it, the bread was just tough to chew compared to their classic bread.
1:16
Honestly McDonalds should bring back the Tamales
Hey! So long as you didn't think of McPizza as pizza, it wasn't bad, lol.
I ate quite a few of them when they were available...
