What’s a beloved breakfast from your childhood that seems to have disappeared over the years?
I love Grape Nuts but my teeth aren't good enough to eat them.
My bowels aren't good enough to eat them.
I never ate breakfast, I have only eaten 1 meal a day since I was about 7 years old. And when I did eat anything as far as breakfast it was old fashioned oatmeal or a homemade biscuit plain.
Jiffy Pop is a stovetop popcorn, jiffy mix is for cornbread or muffins, I think you were thinking of Bisquick
Carnation Instant Breakfast
Jiffy Pop was the popcorn. Jiffy was the pancake/muffin mix.
Thank God someone said it. It was driving me crazy.
Jiffy Mix
That’s right, thank you!!
Thank you. I was going to say that also. It bugged me that he kept saying jiffy pop. 🤦🏻♀️
It’s a weird mistake to make considering the Jiffy box is right there onscreen when he says the wrong name.
I didn’t know corn beef hash faded into history. I just had some two days ago. 😮
I was surprised too... I have a few cans in my cupboard. I must have bought them from history.
No, wait... it was Walmart. I bought them from Walmart.
Yep. Served at our corporate cafeteria from time to time.
It didn't
Me too 😋
My dad buys canned corned beef hash at Wal-Mart sometimes!
"Cherries." The fruit cocktail only ever had one cherry (two, if you were lucky), and you had to fight your siblings in a round of rubberband wars to get it..
Now it comes in "Very Cherry" where you might get 5-7 cherry pieces. 🤣
😂
Yes!!
I don’t know what’s better. The cherries or the juice. I drank the juice like it was water
Max Miller touched on this on his channel. Something about how cherries can only have like a super small percent of in the mix by government regulation and have bulk of it being peaches. I think it was his episode about school lunches during the Great Depression or something like that. Info you never knew you’d want to know or need to know but interesting none the less 😂
Spam and Sunny D are still in every grocery store. Spam has a bunch of different varieties and Sunny D actually has a hard version with alcohol now.
Spam is actually good food, but it's terribly salty.
And sunny d don't taste the same anymore.
They have a less salty version
Outside an apocalypse, I'll never understand why spam is liked.
Everything is available at dollar tree. Family dollar or dollar general.
Malt-o-Meal and Cream of Wheat were among the repertoire when I was a kid.
I still make Cream of Wheat in the winter now and then. As a kid I couldn't stand it. But now it's pretty good actually.
You can still buy them
Was malt o meal like Maypo? I remember Maypo. 😊
Oh wow. They mentioned maypo further into the video. 😊
I still eat them.
Still. LOVE malt o meal
What's interesting is the fact that these 'unhealthy' products were removed from households in favour of more 'healthy' options, yet heart disease, obesity and diabetes are at an all time high.
I'd rather have the old school foods & take my chances.
Yes, I've noticed that oddity too --- everyone being obsessed with health food, exercise, etc., and yet obesity levels kept rising.
Everything is greed today!! Eat what you want and trust no one!!
@@tackcolin6645 So... Huge national brands that sold highly processed food "back in the day" were not motivated by greed? There are many reasons why there is more obesity now, not related to better nutrition for some people. These include more suburban sprawl (walking healthier than driving) and kids not being allowed to play outdoors despite less actual crime than when they were allowed. these also include the fact that many people do not actually eat more healthy food. They eat food with less fat but even more sugar.
@@robertruffo2134just useless lazy people today. Get off the sofa and do something
I totally agree with you 😊
It wasn’t Jiffy Pop pancakes. Jiffy Pop was the popcorn & Jiffy was the cornmeal. Two complete different items.
Yes when I was little my mother used to make that for us. Just Add Water Shake but in a pan and done yes and you can look it up it's called. Jiffy Pop pancakes . And the other one I didn't like was Jiffy popcorn bread. And when we were little my mother used to shake the popcorn on the stove for a Jiffy Pop
I still use Jiffy mixes sometimes especially the cornbread mix. In the video he says Jiffy Pop, but shows Jiffy.
And Jiffy Pop is still sold in the popcorn aisle
@@Nee96Nee Yes, I too still use the Jiffy cornmeal/bread mix. It’s delicious.
Jiffy pop and jiffy are two different companies
And neither pancakes 🥞
Most of these have not faded…still going strong
Yep. I tried Maypo a couple years ago but it wasn't my thing. I'd rather put real maple on cream of wheat.
Exactly. I've got some Jiffy mix, Spam and Corned Beef Hash in the pantry, and I made Eggs in a Nest for breakfast this morning.
I had forgotten,or never knew than Tang was available in other flavors.
I actually have some orange Tang in my cupboard, love the stuff!
I used to drink an instant breakfast every morning before school to save time. I also still eat spam and eggs and eggs in a nest.
Now it's called 'Carnation Breakfast Essentials'. My son has it every day.
I had never eaten corned beef hash before until recently. It was from a can and I ate it with eggs. It was DAMN GOOD!
70's and 80's good old days growing up..
Totally agree.
We are getting up there!
It was the best!
The 90s were better 😂
Jiffy is still in the building💯💯💯
Corned beef hash is still one of my favorites
most of these have not faded into history you can still get them at grocery stores
So true.
I use Jiffy frequently. We were broke(er) when the kids were little so alot of breakfasts featured that Jiffy muffin mix.
The navy had a dish called sh*t on a shingle which is creamed chipped beef on toast.
My navy veteran husband also called it by that not-so-pleasant name!
@@joannejardee3574 There was an episode of McHale's Navy where Ensign Parker asked Captain Binghamton for some creamed chipped beef on toast, and the Captain replied, "Of course! I'll even put it on a shingle for you!"
After I got out, I missed it. I still make it, pretty simple.
glennso... aka sos. All the branches knew it.
My dad was in the army during Vietnam and used to make SOS for my brothers and I. It was great. Most people my age (31) don’t even know what it is
Hawaii still grinding on spam and loco moco with rice. 7-11 is the go to spot.
When my Dad was a Marine stationed in Hawaii during WW2- He discovered Spam & always would fry it for breakfast with eggs😘
@@cynthiamclellan6745 Hawaii has the largest SPAM Warehouse in the world.
You can buy it in the states at Dollar General and Krogers for $2.99 a can
I'm 59 and I remember a lot of these breakfast foods and have eaten
some of them over the years and I really like seeing them again here
thanks for showing them and bringing back the memories.🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
💞☕🍳🥓🧇🥞🥛💞
I'm 63 and remember these as well. Somewhere very good, some I really can't drink or eat anymore, lol.
Chipped beef on toast was really good to eat. The best is biscuits & gravy!
Always available in the mess hall, I don't recall ever seeing anyone eat it.
Better than the British equivalent.
Cold beans, right out if the can, on burnt toast.
So many childhood memories.
I still make S.O.S. and still enjoy eating it
That was a supper in our house. We had several Depression-era dishes in the rotation. My grandfather liked his with hard-boiled eggs and peas instead of meat.
Also referred to a $hit on a Shingle. Search Max Miller for the history of this food and it’s name
Grapenuts Flakes are still available. Grape nuts too. Except they are neither Grape nor Nuts.
Those things are a danger to my jaws and my teeth 😂
*_CRONCH_*
@@stygian4029you need to let it soak for awhile 😁
Love grape 🍇 Nut flakes
When my parents were alive and empty nesters, my dad cooked my mom spam and eggs every Saturday ❤
RIP to them and spam and eggs sounds delicious!
My dad cooks himself spam and eggs for breakfast sometimes.
I learned to make eggs in a nest in home economics. It was the first thing we learned to cook but we called it "toad in a hole".
I know toad in a hole as sausages in a large Yorkshire pudding batter.
We called it that too
Eggie in a basket is what we called it😂
@@mswetra2610 not where I’m from my mother grandmother and sisters always called it a toad in the hole
@@mswetra2610 there’s nothing basket shaped about it
Spam never left the building! I love that you can now get a single slice. One perso doesn’t want to ear a whole can! Fry in butter and maple syrup. Yum!
Soak it in Coca Cola first, but don’t use Diet Coke, use the sugary version.
@@lisabaltzer4190 This also can get rid of a lot of that sodium...I love spam but a thorough soaking for at least an hour before cooking or consuming is something my Dr. recommends to flush the sodium. No loss in taste.
@@grantkruse1812 Thank you for that cooking tip.
Quisp was my # 1 fav breakfast cereal when I was a kid
Mine was, and still is, Captain Crunch Peanut Butter cereal. At least once a year I buy a huge box, and it's gone in two days.
Quisp vs Quake. That's still an unanswered question.
Quisp is still available in parts of the country.
Yes! I still think of it when I'm in the cereal section. 😊
I remembered the TONO chocolate drink in the tin. You can either drink it hot or cold. No longer can be purchased.
My girlfriend now wife was on the TV show Hollywood Squares as a contestant back in the 80’s. She won some nice things but knew I would be super happy hearing she had won a case of Mary Kitchen Hash,
If you think Spam for breakfast has faded into history, you haven’t visited Hawaii.
In Korea Spam is seen as a status symbol, entire cases of it are presented to the Bride and Groom at Korean weddings. A throwback to the time when the USA used it as currency in reward for espionage activities.
Exactly. When I lived in Hawaii in the mid 90's they ate it with EVERYTHING as I am sure they are doing today. It's a staple there--like eggs, milk, bread, etc.
I drained a few cans of mix fruit cocktail, added it to a large bowl of cherry jello....The classroom kids loved it
I made that for my kids, they loved it !😋
Those were the days of Del Monte mixed fruits in a can
@@sue7014my dad would put it in jello after it was half firm so it wouldn’t sink to bottom. When it was totally firm we would eat it. Yum.
Boo Berry , Franken Berry and Count Chocoala from General Mills I think and Honeycomb but my favorite was good old Wheaties.
The breakfast of champions!!
I also liked Cookie Crisps.
Do you remember Fruit Brute
My favorite was Buc Wheats but sadly they are no longer available
With Bruce Jenner on the cover
My nephew uses the Jiffy corn muffin mix to make cornbread. I've used it to make corn cakes.
Thank you for the idea
@@colleencrowl1543 Good idea.
"I want my Maypo!" Remember that call to breakfast? I STILL put maple syrup in my oatmeal on occasion, so it tastes like good old Maypo. I also remember King Vitamin-" Have breakfast with the king, King Vitamin" I still know the song😂
I was in the mountains in WV in the 90s and found King Vitamin in a Wal-Mart up there. It just wasn't the same as when I was a kid. You can never go home again, so the old saying goes.
@@trevordon819. You are so right!!!
So do I 😂😂
I remember seeing that jar of instant Maxwell House coffee with the big star on the lid as a kid in our kitchen. Tasty corned beef hash was something we often had for an easy dinner. I haven't made it for a while along with yummy cream chipped beef and toast. But always butter the toast folks! These were fun to watch. 👍😄
I remember Maypo Cereal.
my sister born 1955 loved it so much. she went to all the supermarkets around mount dora, florida and could not find it. she found the company on-line and they sent her a case every so often at a favorable price.
Spam is extremely popular in Hawaii
I ain't even know that
Here in Alaska, too.
Spam is popular in most Asian countries. I worked with Vietnamese and Filipinos. They all loved spam.
I had a Spamollette this morning.
When I went to Hawaii every restaurant had a spam dish on the menu. Even McDonalds offered Spam & eggs. In Las Vegas the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue chain has Spam & eggs on the menu.
I remember nearly everything in this video. I ate wheat in an even preferred it over oatmeal ! Two cereals I remember vividly I are “OK” cereal featuring Yogi Bear on the box. It was a variation of Cheerios. The other was Alphabets cereal. Thanks for the memories
Corned beef hash continues not just as a breakfast staple, but as a delicacy. I can think of better than a half-dozen places within a five-mile radius that offer it as a breakfast item.
You raise an interesting point there. For years and years in UK if you were broke, you could always spend your last few pennies on a tin of corned beef or tinned tuna. Not true today, corned beef now retails between £3-£4 a tin, Tuna almost £2 a small tin. Belly pork - likewise a one time cheap cut of meat is now priced on a par with beef steak.
I loved grape nuts flakes but hated regular grape nuts
Creamed chipped beef on toast, also known by its Army name, SOS (Sh** On a Shingle), was traditionally eaten either at breakfast or lunch or dinner, it was all purpose food. In our house, the Friday and Lenten equivalent was creamed dried codfish on toast .
My dad was in the military and he knew how to make SOS better than Mom
we ate this often. I loved it
My mother called creamed eggs on toast "eggs a-la goldenrod." My own kids tease me about this all the time.
It's the same except save some egg yolk to press through a strainer to top it---making it look quite a bit like goldenrod.
There was an item called Flavor Straws that had a little chocolate flavor pellets in the straws that turned milk into chocolate milk. I think they had other flavors too like strawberry.
Yes, I remember them. They did have strawberry, too.
Holy cow! The other day I was in a Stop&Shop grocery store and they had those. (Now plastic and 6 times the price)
Those flavour straws are big now in UK for dipping in a glass of milk. Two big flavours are Black Jacks (liquorice and aniseed) and Fruit Salad (pineapple and raspberries) . Both these flavours are product diversification of fruit chews under the same name, they also make ice cream topping in those flavours too.
I miss king vitamin that was the goat growing up
It is still sold!
I am 64 years old and have never heard of it. I don’t recognize half these foods. I guess my family just didn’t eat that stuff.
@@Christopher-rd7ou Where? Lol
@@techsuprmomma I live in Cincinnati, and it is sold at all Kroger stores. Don't know where you live, so maybe it's a regional thing.
I eat Cream of Wheat regularly
when my sister Christa couldn't find this in local stores, she contacted the company and they were glad to sell it to her by the case in mount dora florida.
Me too
I love cream of wheat! It was my favorite growing up. My mom would always forget to stir so it would be lumpy. 😅 I liked the lumps though, I told my grandmother this and she looked at me strange, she said your mama can't cook 🤣. My mom said don't tell anyone that anymore.
Hated it lol
Jiffy Mix is still on the shelves & being produced in Chelsea, MI. Jiffy Pop popcorn came in a foil pan (think pie plate) with a handle & thin foil top that expanded into a dome full of popcorn when heated on the stove.
Still find it odd so many think spam is "economical" or cheap... It is not really, the cans are so small it is like $8 a pound, i can buy steak for less.. spam is versatile though, and Hawaii has a festival for it.
It wasn’t jiffy pop just jiffy for muffins
No jiffy has a pancake mix and it is still very much available.
Later Jiffy came out with a separate pancake mix, made about four pancakes. But originally, Jiffy muffin mix had directions on how to make pancakes using their muffin mixes.
Jiffy Mix itself is still around where you can still make pancakes. i know because I work at a store. Corn beef hash is still around so are Grape Nut Cereal.
I put fresh blueberries in my Jiffy corn muffins. 😊
Oohhhh
carnation energy breakfast bars got in trouble thinking it was a candy bar lol
Year ago I saw Tang on the grocery shelf and just had to have it and seriously I remember quisp and king vitamin that was some good stuff
And don't forget the cornbread mix too that was always one of my personal favorite
I made corn muffins yesterday!
I never thought of cornbread as breakfast food.
That depends on the household sometimes when it was really warm from the oven
I live in Iowa and it's ALL about corn... cornbread with butter and honey is still a breakfast staple..🌽🍞🌽
In the South, we crumble left over corn bread into a glass of milk. Yum
I use SPAM all the time! Great broiled with scrambled eggs! I still miss Broadcast corned beef hash which was the best but I also make it at least once a month. As for Jiffy mixes they originated during the Great Depression.
You can buy SOS from the grocery store. Stoffers has a frozen version that isn't bad.
Since they redid the packaging and cooking directions, it is terrible!!
Make it yourself - it's simple. Add chopped onions. :-))
@@modtwentyeight what do packaging and cooking directions have to do with how it tastes?
@@sassiebrat They swear they did not change the recipe. Maybe it IS me. I gave up on it. I really liked the "boil in bag" way.
Born in the early 60's, I never heard of most of the things in the 2nd half of the list. The first half brings back lots of childhood memories.
8:53 $#!+ on a shingle! Great stuff! Filling, comforting, satisfying!
I am waiting for Buckwheats cereal to come back!
Sunny Delight clearly didn’t go any where, they just changed the name to Sunny D
I remember Tang, as a kid, in the early 80s. It literally made me sick every time I drank it.
I remember Tang as well.
I wouldn't buy it today simply because of the high sugar content.
The same for Carnation Instant Breakfast.
It was kind of hush-hush, but Tang was discontinued for a short period of time, when the FDA mandated that all food manufacturers stop using a certain orange flavoring, due to its links to cancer. There were a few other products that were caught up in the ban, too, such as orange flavored Crystal Light, Wylers, Sunny-D, Tampico Punch, etc. Basically, if it was orange flavored and tasted better than orange Kool-Aid, it was affected by the ban and had to reformulate. The FDA didn't mandate an immediate ban, though. They gave manufacturers a deadline and notified them some years in advance. Some products managed to reformulate before the deadline and never went missing from store shelves (Sunny-D), while others didn't (Tang). Some manufacturers opted to just drop carrying an orange flavored option entirely (such as Crystal Light and Wylers)
Yeah, horrible stuff.
I prefer Tang over that battery acid they call Sunny D. 😁
Jiffy Pop and Jiffy mixes are two different things
Tang came back in the nineties and ‘00s and SunnyD did not die you can still get it at Walmart and it even made a comeback in the nineties too Spam is still sold in stores too
I remember once when I passed out in a supermarket and someone brought me a Sunny D that brought me back to consciousness. I chugged it they said. I must have had a low blood sugar.
Get your sugar level check by your doc
Quisp was basically Cap'n Crunch but in a different shape.
No, that was Quake.
Spam is very popular in alaska and Hawaii
Japan too.
Sunny Delight, Spam, Corned beef hash, Jiffy not Jiffy Pop (Jiffy Pop was a popcorn), fruit cocktail, Maxwell House coffee, Grape nuts flakes are still around. So most of all you showed are still sold in stores.
My childhood breakfast staple was Cream of Wheat. I remember liking it as a kid but then tried it several years later and it was horrid 😖
It has to be stirred constantly and lots of brown sugar and butter, then milk stirred in. At least that's been my experience.
And I still eat fruit cocktail to this day…still ticking!
Carnation Instant Breakfast ❤😢
My dad was in the National Guard for over 40 years and loved his S.O.S. We had it as a meal regularly. One of the variations my mom would make was to substitute dried cod for the chipped beef. It was made the same as chipped beef on toast. She would also often add chopped up boiled eggs into the gravy.
In terms of fruit cocktail, love the cherries, hate the grapes lol I still buy it occasionally even today but I get the one in light syrup
Corned beef hash is still my hero…. 😔
Same, nothing quite hits the spot. This was my childhood favourite, when hardly anything’s left in the house to eat and we had to make do with what we had. I swear this meal came to the rescue on many accounts.
@@katj3443 I make my own using a leftover baked potato, diced deli sliced (Boar's Head or equivalent) corned beef, diced onion, a bit of Scarborough Fair herbs (parsley, age, rosemary and thyme), sauteed 'til the mixture is nicely browned, and serve topped with a poached egg (fried will do in a pinch).
You'll never go back to the can.
0:16 Tang - I moved from the USA to the Philippines. We have Tang here, quite common. Just had some Pineapple Tang a few minutes ago, They also have 'Four Seasons, a blend of four fruit flavors.
we still have cases of tang at work. we might not use it as breakfast but it makes one helluva good dishwasher cleaner
I still love it with eggs now and again ❤
Meant the corned beef hash. Yummy!
Ah man I actually made a Tang pie just last weekend. Followed their recipe but substituted the sour cream for cream cheese. My niece and I really enjoyed it.
Wasn't that from Tasting History here on youtube
Tang - The last time I had it was probably around 1978. We had it all the time.
Carnation Instant Milk - a few times around 1973, didn't care for it.
Quisp - The last time I had it was in the early 90's, it was brought back for a limited time.
Sunny D - That was so popular, I bought it regularly when I stared my family.
SPAM - I grew up on it from the 70's. I still buy it when the mood hits.
Cornbeef Hash - I still have it for breakfast with eggs.
Jiffy Pancakes - Didn't use, we grew up on Hungry Jack Pancakes and Aunt Jemiama
Fruit Cocktail - I learned to hate it as kid in the 70's. The school served it everyday and mom used it in Jello.
Eggs in a nest - Never did it.
TV Breakfast - We didn't do those. We either cooked breakfast or did hot or cold cereal.
Chipped Beef on Toast, a.k.a. S.O.S. - Let's just say there was a small time in my life I had to eat it. After that I never went back to it. Now biscuits and sausage gravy is a different ball game!
Maxwell House Coffee - It was this coffee that made me try Starbucks when they started popping up in my area. My old job served this swill everyday. Haven't touched it since.
Creamed Eggs on Toast - I never had it.
Maypo - I never had it. We grew up on Quaker Oats and Uncle Ben's Cream of Wheat.
Space Food Sticks - I think we tried it once in the 70's and never did again.
King Vitamin Cereal - I remember it but never tried it. Me and my siblings were cereal snobs. It was Sugar Pops, Honeycomb, Sugar Smacks, Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, but never this.
Post Fortified Flakes - Again, as kids it wasn't going on our list.
Wheatena - We never had it.
Grape-nuts -It was okay, but again never on our list of cereal. However, Rasin Bran was on our list.
Grilled grapefruit with Marachino cherries - Nope, we never did this. We had plenty of grapefruits because mom loved them. But as kids we did sprinkle sugar on top.
Tang is 6 decades old, but serves the markets around the world so far! 😊
The grapefruit was the first thing I learned in cooking class in High School.
Just had spam and eggs....
Spam doesn’t taste as good as it did when you had to use the key to open it
Oh I remember that ur right that use to be the way to open many cans back then 😊
I am now seventy years old. I am in very poor health and I am just now learning why. There are two reasons: I started smoking in my early teens and i grew eating all this artificial crap you talked about in this video. In short, my grandfather was right to be suspicious of all this "convenient" foods.
As we become older n educate ourselves about different foods, we make better food choices
You don't have to eat like a rabbit/turtle but eat certain foods in moderation....Also, b mindful of budgeting....We all know healthy foods are expensive
i am 73 and went through 3 bouts of covid. one left me bleeding due to ideopathic cytopenic purpura. i went though renal failure and hypertensive emergencies and prostate surgeries. my suggestion is to eat omega three foods, avoid seed oils, use fish oil as an anti-inflammatory, and only olive oil for salads and cooking. it is possible to use coconut oil or avocado oil for cooking though. take 5000 units vitamin D oil daily for your immune system unless you are getting plenty of sun. moreover, love someone every day and have happy conversations. you will be amazed how happy you will be. i smoked from age 12 to last year. i stopped because i coughed a lot. i do not cough anymore.
@@kurtgandenberger6139My experiences have been much like yours. I am now in the process of recovery.
The damage is already done when we reach a certain age. We can only do so much now.
My mom is 70. Looks 50 and ate these in moderation and she occasionally smoked. Genes could also be a factor.
You get Spam at McDonalds in Hawaii.
Malt-o-Meal is still in our kitchen! Along with chipped beef of toast (I learned to make gravy w/out lumps making this exact dish!), biscuits & sausage gravy, corned beef hash & eggs, fried spam & eggs (which is good on a grilled cheese sandwich along with onions &/or sliced tomatoes!) - they are still in our kitchen & enjoyed quite often (yes, a kid of a army dad & a baby boomer kid - hubby is also a baby boomer)
Thank you, I remember most of them 😊 My husband misses Spam but we don't eat pork or beef anymore. The turkey spam he says, isn't the same 😢
Tang is great and still around. Space Food sticks are sadly gone. But the worse loss in breakfast history was Space Food Bars, you could be called away from breakfast and return in 10 years and they would still be as good when you were called away. I am still missing them.
I can see the sodium just crawling out of that corned beef hash! BTW where's the Grits!
Im digging the eggs in a nest idea ❤
Old time Shredded Wheat, when it came in a brick, the size of a bar of soap. I miss that. Also Corn, Wheat and Rice Chex, which you could also use to make a cocktail snack.
Nabisco Shredded wheat...... Looked and tasted like a bale of hay!.... Nah, just kidding, I liked it too...
They still make all the Chex cereal's....
Maypo sounds interesting. Bring it back!
I don't think it left. Can be ordered online if unavailable in your local store.
I still make eggs in a basket and my son loves corned beef hash. Not sure where you get the idea that these faded into history but there are a lot of stuff on this list that still exist and are consumed by people everyday
Your topic was famous breakfasts we abandon. I am 74, and never heard of anyone eating fruit cocktail or space food sticks for breakfasts both of which I love, space food sticks are sadly gone but I still buy fruit cocktail all the time, neither it nor Maxwell House Coffee went anywhere. Also as someone else pointed out Jiffy Pop is just popcorn , not box mixes, though both are Jiffy brand.
No, they are not the same brand.
I will never abandon spam
Theses days if world war 3 hits, I have a stash!
I love Spam too! 😋 I chop it up and mix with Mac & cheese!!yum!!
Neither will I 😊
Ditto...Love spam
We saved the British from starvation during world War two by shipping tons of spam to Britain. Ask the younger British and they will say no it didn't and get angry.
I have a fondness for Spam today!..
Because as a kid, I would sometimes spend a few weeks visiting my uncle, who was a career Army enlisted non com. And he would cook Spam and eggs for breakfast every other morning. Sometimes varying the breakfast routine with SOS!...creamed chipped beef on biscuits... And fried potatoes and bacon was also a staple at his table... It makes me wonder, that with his diet...He managed to make to 94!
Solzhenitsyn mentioned Russians getting spam in "The Gulag Archipelago," and making nasty jokes about it.
The older generations of British citizens still have a fondness for Spam. After all, Monty Python's Flying Circus immortalized Spam in song!
I am of the older generation in Britain. Spam is the worst tinned meat, if it is meat, going. I haven't eaten it since we came off rationing
I remember all these foods and one that isn’t mentioned often is fruit cocktail. My mother bought that all the time.
Spam’s great!
Nothing like a fried spam, lettuce, tomato and mayo sandwich on toast. Ate quite a few back the 1960's.
I still eat them that way in the 2024's. We buy spam ands fry it also t make sandwiches. My dad used to use it for fish bait. Great for Carp and Catfish
We need to bring these back

I had no idea that corned beef hash was a breakfast food.
With eggs😋
Don't forget the toast!
My ski coach in Minneapolis was the inventor of Space Food Sticks.
Ohhh how nice it is to take a walk down memory lane now and then, I remember these breakfast foods as I used to have them on a regular basis, some of them were actually good for you while some of them were so sweet that you would think that your teeth were going to melt. Toast fixed with an egg in the middle, why I still have that now and then, the corned beef hash is good on those cold mornings when you just have to have a hot breakfast. The Jiffy brand boxed mixes are still a good deal though they have gone up in price, they used to cost around .19 cents per box back in the 1970s. So many of the items they showed were nice to have now and then, that reminds me I need to get some more instant breakfast next time I go shopping AZ that is still available.
