I was a complete ebike novice last year; all I knew was a bit of soldering and basic mountain bike maintenance. Bought ebike parts from Andy's shop to build a version of the bike in this video, learned a hell of a lot watching his channel (and others) and had an awesome summer getting back into riding my local roads, some of which I had never explored before. I will be forever grateful to Andy for opening my eyes to the possibilities of building something so amazing. If you're watching this wondering if you should... do some research, find out what you'll need to learn about and just do it! Trust me.
Glad things worked out for you, did you have to do a lot of soldering and make circuits or is it pretty much plug and play? Also, may I ask how much you paid all-in? Thx
Manuel Auer I made a battery pack from 4 power tool batteries (see some of Andy’s other vids), which took a small amount of soldering to make a harness with 8 AWG wire. There was no other soldering required, all plug connectors or ring terminals. As for the cost, I haven’t added it all up. About £2,500 for the big parts (frame, wheels, etc.) from Cloudsto.com, which doesn’t include the battery. The rest is all good quality mountain bike parts, probably over £1,000. I recommend making your own battery, there are loads of tutorials including some by Andy. Good luck!
@@Manuel-gs6qw No problem. :) Having a battery made will be more expensive (and the most costly single item of the whole build!), but if you prefer that route, Andy will be able to help you. Send him an email via the cloudsto customer support and ask!
M G Yes you’re probably right. However, I’ve had some woeful experiences dealing with some sellers on AliExpress, specifically poor communications, incorrect goods being shipped, or not shipped at all, etc. Also, Andy has been very helpful with customer support, which is generally nonexistent via AliExpress, and I would rather support a friend based in the UK, despite the mark-up.
What I really need to know is how to match the battery with the controller and how to fuse the battery so I don't blow the controller or build up too much heat where the phase wires get too hot or the battery wires get to hot and start to melt. Is that an iStorm helmet that you're using? I just bought one and I really like it. I also have the same alarm and recommend them for anyone with any vehicle that they don't want people messing with. It's cheap and the batteries last a really long time. 3 AAA batteries (US), for the alarm and a 12 volt battery for the remote. It also lets you know when the alarm battery is getting low because it takes longer for the confirmation tone to sound. If I just tap my finger on the bike it chirps to let people know that it's armed. Love your videos. Wish I had half of your energy. Stay safe. This virus is no joke. I love to see that after 3 years of riding, you still have that excitement as if you just got it. That says a lot about the quality of the build.

I believe what blows the display during regen is the current. If your battery reaches fully charge voltage during regen, the BMS blocks the regen charge from coming in. In that split second, the controller throws the current all over the place. The display being force fed 20-30A at full battery voltage, dies. Many of my accessories kept dying until I realized it's because of this.
Love your channel, I’ve just got a cheap £600 Zycle 250w I’m so obsessed now, used to ride dirt bikes and bmx many moons ago, planning a full build next year, keep the videos coming, you definitely know your gear ⚙️
QS273 is the obvious choice for the most powerful ebikes ;) Just a couple of points from the video. The dnm air suspensions can't handle cold weather so you would have to get the spring version imo. Magura brakes have way poorer perfomance in these fast ebikes than tektro dorados in my experience at least

Hi Andy, thanks for the interesting video. Your videos have inspired me to build my own. I bought the Em3ev enduro frame I am running MXUS 3k on 26" wheels with sabvoton and Em3Ev 14s 30Ah. I've had it running up to 3300w Failures thus far; DC-DC converter caught fire inside the frame, Sabvoton started malfunctioning and one of the cell series went up to 4.4v, probably BMS problems. The suppliers have been good enough to stick to the warranty terms and either repair or replace the components. All have been used well within their operating limits, so I think I was just unlucky. I think I'll build my own battery next, at least then I'll be able to repair without voiding any warranties. What can go wrong, will go wrong. I've been into 3D printing for a few years and it's been a great tool for quickly fabricating mounting hardware. I have selected narrow carbon fibre bars as I like the lack of flex. Here was my hardtail configuration earlier in the year ruclips.net/video/TLaSzglUMlg/видео.html Best wishes, Leo.

The all in one on board battery charger, the cycle Sataitor was my idea.... because I was using 3 different types of batteries on my 2 wheel drive ebike, I had li-ion, lifepo4 and SLA, I got tired of carrying 3 different chargers, so i sent an email to Justin " hey it would be really nice to have a built in, on board, all in one charger that can charge any chemistry ". Proportional regen, was not supposed to work through throttle, it was supposed to work through brake levers... pull one brake lever, get a set level of regen, pull both brake levers and regen slowly increase's until stopped or release of handle, this was due to carrying 200 .lbs in a trailer and not being able to stop with bike brakes alone.... so being able to increase regen rate depending on trailer load would help with braking, bit more to it, but thats the general idea.... Justin never liked regen, thought it was a waste of money and time, he said the numbers did not justify having it in his controllers.... until I said " dude, I got over $600 in brakes, at $80 a rotor it gets expensive to replace, I could care a less about how much it regens if it saves me money on brake parts ". Half of the new idea's to come of his shop in the last 10 years, where mine.... but he claimed them like his own.... like the Grin Runner, based on the one OSI makes in Ontario where I live, which I showed him... I asked if it was capable of adding all the features I wanted in a controller.... the trick was to program the brake levers to act with its own set of instructions, but I never got around to it and after Justin stole my " intellectual property " I pretty much stopped sending him my idea's and stopped working on most of them. So the cycle sataitor, is stolen property, my property. I still have the original emails I sent Justin....

Great bike I bought the set of shimano slx 4pots break I wonder if 170cm rear and 100cm front line will be long enough for this frame build or I should order the longer one?
I'm out to build my own E Motorcycle. I really love your work on this bike. I'm curious as to why you choose to keep the bike pedals? Speaking only for myself, I'm not a fan. Why not go with foot pegs and grip throttle? Personal preference or mechanical need?
Believe it or not, the problem is finding pedals to pegs conversation kits its very difficult at the moment, we are currently researching new type classifications, as you are suggesting, that would actually require them, but have had to make our own kits, thus far, for the various different sizes of bottom brackets, every time we get s batch in they immediately sell out, just about to order a much bigger batch for next time, but they will probably sell out as well, as our waiting list just keeps growing, Best A
Can you please tell us how we can add pegs on these? I know this video is old, but you are active in your comments from experience. And no one else is doing it. Please show us how we can do a proper peg conversion on these frames
160mm disc brakes only ? i think thats enough for 35k/ph or max 40 i have 180mm rotors on my 60k/ph fatbike(2kw) and i am planning to upgrade to 203mm because its really not safe without them.
Andy as you know I follow both you and Steve please can you advise what makes your kirby ebike 5000s kit clone / stealth any better than the clones that are half the price many thanks simon
I really like this e-bike , it’s one of the coolest 😎looking bikes , & one the best performance I’ve seen, what kind of price am I looking at for a similar build to what you’ve got on this video
Built my 16kw 62mph E-Scrambler for $2400, Just find a reliable storefront on Alibaba, then wheel and deal the prices. That's 16kw burst not continuous. But it's a fukin beast!
how did you get the headlight to have a full beam mode? i have the same headlight and it doesnt have that feature Also did you sort out the regen/brakelight/speed cut issue?
If you stand on the pedals you become unsprung weight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that's the case this is a terrible swingarm design. The crank should go through the swingarm pivot or through the frame. I'd buy a frame like this if I could find one with a better swingarm and ability to mount fixed pegs.
Great channel.. just don't let a traffic officer catch you.. they'll refer you to court revoke your licence. non tested bike no plates, insurance to name a few 'offences.
How many miles will it do at say 40mph ? I'd love to get one of these for adventures on 100 mile trips or so but I'm scared it runs out of juice, un like a motorbike you can't take it to a petrol station to be re filled in seconds
These e-bikes are going to be remembered as And-E-bikes in the future if you keep pushing it the way you are, there's going to be a lot of jealous Andrew's out there wishing they had thought of doing it. LOL ✌🎉🍻🎉✌ keep up the hard work!!!
Hi Andy, I'm planning to build one of these bikes and currently deciding on what specs to go for. The battery pack I currently have will only be capable of putting out 100A at 72V, but I'm leaning toward getting the 8kw motor with 150A controller. Using the higher rated components will give me a lot of headroom and less heat build up, and allow me to upgrade my battery at a later date if I want to unleash the full power. I do not want to risk damaging my current battery however - is there a way of setting the Sabvoton 150A controller to only draw 100A maximum from the battery? Are there any drawbacks to doing things this way? Thanks a lot :)
No, think they’ve got better things to do. Also no reason to as I’m pedalling and keeping to the same speed as the other bikes around here. I once had some coppers look over it because they wanted to get one which I thought was pretty cool!
I was going down a country lane the other day and a bycycle had better and brighter lights than my car...plus i don't know how new cars can get away with such bright lights for years now, my optometrist just quiver with disgust when I mention HID/ LED lights at night...
@@IDann1 The lights aren't brighter it's the colour temperature. If they were yellow instead of cold white there wouldn't be an issue. Cyclists have bright lights because it's like a mate shining a light dead in your face.

@@andykirby ship to the states?
Dude, that bike looks fucking good.
Better than a suron in my opinion well done andy love the content
Really well put together ebike👍
thats a pretty awesome bike! if I had the money and the countryside I would certainly build my own like that!
This is a perfect bike for me, I wish you could mass produce them for sale. Cool bike 👍 by Andy.
Lang Chauvin he is selling them ??
I sure wish we could get a frame like that with the bottom bracket not in the swingarm. That way I could use a bafang motor.
Could you put a motor on the front wheel too and split the battery and controller between the two ?
You can put another motor on, but you should run a second controller.
How much to buy the ebike for could you please email me back please
😍😍 that swing arm... i want one too bad my bike frame can't use that or box tensioner..
And I'm having trouble finding that headlight you have on this beast. Do you have a link to one? Is it a 5 6 or 7 inch round light bucket? Any info would help even the size would probably help me locate one.
Thanks, buddy.
Been thinking of building one of these. Do you get much attention from the police even if registered?
Wondering about the range, how far you can expect to go between charges on the road?
Andy, I know this video is old but, I have a quick question. Where can I get the charge port and male plug you use on your bike? I think you said a music stereo jack. If you can give me a link or the exact name so i can google it I'd really appreciate it! Thanks
Best Regards Mr. E-bike King
Rob
Love it m8! hello from California! i love what you are doing. I plan on ordering it from your website. unfortunately im not super confident on my build skills yet. I am a FPV drone pilot and have a fair degree of electronics acuity. As i revisit my bicycle 🚴 childhood dreams. I will gain the confidence to spend the buku bucks for this kit. i hope you the best. and carry on sir! well done indeed!
Hi great video what would be the overall cost compared to a ebike cheers
Now about that blinding headlight!
where did you get the bike frame and what to look out for when getting parts
Alibaba
Great bike I bought the set of shimano slx 4pots break I wonder if 170cm rear and 100cm front line will be long enough for this frame build or I should order the longer one?
Do you have any links for the moto bar switches for the lights and horn? Been on the hunt for a good set. Much appreciated!
Is there a way to order all of the hardware for the bike in one package? Screws/nuts/bolts/etc? Especially those red thumb screws hehe
I'm out to build my own E Motorcycle. I really love your work on this bike. I'm curious as to why you choose to keep the bike pedals? Speaking only for myself, I'm not a fan. Why not go with foot pegs and grip throttle? Personal preference or mechanical need?
Believe it or not, the problem is finding pedals to pegs conversation kits its very difficult at the moment, we are currently researching new type classifications, as you are suggesting, that would actually require them, but have had to make our own kits, thus far, for the various different sizes of bottom brackets, every time we get s batch in they immediately sell out, just about to order a much bigger batch for next time, but they will probably sell out as well, as our waiting list just keeps growing, Best A
Excellent video Andy with really good information mate keep it up
HolyCrowCasey: SUPER WELL DONE!!!
Can you please tell us how we can add pegs on these? I know this video is old, but you are active in your comments from experience. And no one else is doing it. Please show us how we can do a proper peg conversion on these frames
160mm disc brakes only ?
i think thats enough for 35k/ph or max 40
i have 180mm rotors on my 60k/ph fatbike(2kw) and i am planning to upgrade to 203mm because its really not safe without them.
no the disks are 205mm :-)
@@andykirby i meant the bike on the website, the price is really good btw
Andy as you know I follow both you and Steve please can you advise what makes your kirby ebike 5000s kit clone / stealth any better than the clones that are half the price many thanks simon
I really like this e-bike , it’s one of the coolest 😎looking bikes , & one the best performance I’ve seen, what kind of price am I looking at for a similar build to what you’ve got on this video
I LOVE THIS BIKE¡!
Also don't be scared when Andy does his ride at the end and parts of it sound like he's possessed... LoL
I can see your battery is not too large :) you can easy fit 20s20p in this frame
Love it! How much would one of these set me back? Great videos man!
3k if you look for deals and scale back a few parts. What he's riding Id say closer to 5k. A good place to start is ev3em.
I built mine for 2500 us
Built my 16kw 62mph E-Scrambler for $2400, Just find a reliable storefront on Alibaba, then wheel and deal the prices. That's 16kw burst not continuous. But it's a fukin beast!
@@FarmerFpv do you have a good supplier
@@FarmerFpv how did you find a way around paying import tax on the parts? or is the import tax relatively low where you live? thanks!
F1 YZ250F 5 speed 54HP. takes off like a jet, shifting into a higher gear means the throttle can be opened more!
how did you get the headlight to have a full beam mode? i have the same headlight and it doesnt have that feature
Also did you sort out the regen/brakelight/speed cut issue?
always great videos Andy keep up the good work ...you have saved me loads of time with your help
This is the beast I want :)
How do I buy one ?
would love to build one 60mph for trails, need plenty of power and speed for hill climbs !
What brakes would you recommend if you’re gonna try and get the bike registered.
i agree with you just enjoy the ride my friend
Liitokala means flying cod in Finnish. The brand is Chinese so apparently the owner is a true fan of Finland😃
Who or how did you fabricate the Black plastic battery & Controller cover. I mean the phone fits in there too
Great channel.. just don't let a traffic officer catch you.. they'll refer you to court revoke your licence. non tested bike no plates, insurance to name a few 'offences.
How many miles will it do at say 40mph ? I'd love to get one of these for adventures on 100 mile trips or so but I'm scared it runs out of juice, un like a motorbike you can't take it to a petrol station to be re filled in seconds
Probably around 20 miles
Does the kit on the website have everything I need? What does it comes like?
What is the maintenance like for one of these Enduro ebikes
These e-bikes are going to be remembered as And-E-bikes in the future if you keep pushing it the way you are, there's going to be a lot of jealous Andrew's out there wishing they had thought of doing it. LOL ✌🎉🍻🎉✌ keep up the hard work!!!
"Just whip it off"
Damn.
So casual about it.
Police never pulled you over on the e-bike before ?🚴👍💯
No, think they’ve got better things to do. Also no reason to as I’m pedalling and keeping to the same speed as the other bikes around here. I once had some coppers look over it because they wanted to get one which I thought was pretty cool!
Thanks for the video Andy, very informative and great editing mate. Nice one!
Thanks man👍
@@andykirby vesc 100V/300amp should be enough right? As a compact lightweight controller
Hello Andy.where and how did you bought that?thank you so much
Looks like your blinding the oncoming cars with the front led light ☠️
No doubt about that
I hate it when people go around with full beam. No need for it.
@@forevercomputing I was in an un-lit country lane and the bikes beams looked to me to be projecting further than mine plus he had twin lights
Ive a decent yam 125xx can do 75 all day on flat peak but I'm on cbt and dont want to renew next year. Debating going this route tho as its more peak power all the time. Im just stuck on mid drive or hub as ide want 10kw+ and good range

Can you use a capacitor bank for a sorta nitro boost lol
whats better yours or " my super ebike 4.2 " by the channel Ladi and Margeret ? he is using LIPO battery.
You can use diodes to Isolate your break wires
