I got into electric bikes because I was considering getting a knackered 125 motorbike and turning it into an electric one. My mates poured water on it by saying how hard it would be on the legal side. I saw your video on getting your bike registered and it's cleared a lot of points up. I would love to do what you have with this bike it looks like absolute fun. I have rode motorbikes for over 40 years and it's been a long time since I enjoyed such a video and indeed such a concept. I have kept most of my ebikes down to 250w because as time goes on, the police will twig on to people tweaking them up and it will be harder to get away with bigger watts. Thanks for posting and all your hard work. Safe riding.
Is this going to be MOT-able when the time comes (presumably 3 years from first registration) - I mean will an MOT garage be able to handle such a vehicle?
Well done Andy, looks amazing. Why not just undo one crank and swing it around so its facing the same way as the other side and then at least your feet will be on the same level. They will naturally drop to the bottom and you can easily convert back if you need to.
What about having to pass your Compulsary Basic Training (CBT)? So many people out on normal bicycles and eBikes who don't even know the highway code either!
Congratulation Andy that's fantastic news this will lead the way for us all in the future to enjoy e-bikes with more power. Great video it rides really nice by the looks of it I bet you can't wait for better weather. Looking forward to watching more videos about E-bikes and more stay safe and see you in the next.
1hp is generally 0.746kW. Moped licence as covered by that AM cat moped licence is 4kw or below two-wheeled vehicle with a maximum design speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). CBT if your 17+ gives you 11kw as far as I know there isn't a top end speed limit for these which is why the 2 stroke sports bikes were so popular in the late 90s early 2000's a bit like electric they just had massive torque curves throughout the band and would get a 17 year old weighing 10 stone up to 75-80mph or 90-100mph when telling your mates.
@Jon Doe 😆 that woud be perpetual... And thats not possible. Its like putting a windturbine on your EV and hoping to be able to go for a longer drive 🙉
Very informative video. Glad you got a result. I think insurance could be more emphasised. The bike has to be road legal to get 3rd party damage and injury insurance. If you de-restrict it and injure someone then you wouldn't be insured. You make things seem too simple. Your viewers don't realise the power in lithium batteries. Mine are just 36V. 10 to 13 AH.. but I treat them with respect. I don't like them in my house. Sorry negative reply but I know people who ride illegal ebikes and think it's not big or clever. I got a full bike/car licence...I'm 67 so years since I rode a motor bike but they where deadly as fast ebikes.
Well done Andy, you done good. That's always gonna be 'problem' range. When I rode a bike (of all sizes),there was always a place to replenish my fuel. Not so quick and easy when you have to recharge unfortunately!
This journey you documented registering your bike has been really interesting. I guess the question now is when are you going to register it as a 125cc category A ebike?
Velocity can be 50kph at 20kph twisting my throttle that wind speed is the magic. Air speed indicator on my 25oow 2wd Sabvoton bike. 45mph top speed, befang 500 on front 1500w on back 21ah 48v. Good I don't have 72v
New friend here and congrats on these beautiful E-bike registration this is an awsome one really love it so nice to meet you and you're very welcome to my place✌❤from Wildeys
Love it Andy! I was also the first road legal electric motorcycle conversion to be registered in South Africa. It's not easy getting them legal. Welcome to Africa! 😂 Wicked back track what do you use for your music? From the electric Yamaha FZR channel.
Hey man, EXCELLENT! Well done, I can imagine that was not easy to do in SA! I make all my own music, check out the video after this one on my channel and also many others. Ride safe.
nice job andy, i followed your videos for a year or two, my problem, is i have a 49cc 4 stroke on a mountain bike, got away with it for nearly 7 years until i got stopped in a road check by the police, and stopped me from riding it, took me and the bike home in a police van, i said i can peddle it home, no not safe, not legal ect, still no charge or fine. the bike will beat any cyclist in the world, they hated me. a good all round means of transport. the government should allow them, say up to 1500 watt legally with a lot of stupid rules, 2 hp max. you think getting an e bike is difficult. try a petrol engine, much worse, i would do it if the crazy rules where simple and made some logic, but they do not. the MPs should be made to try and build a bike and get it passed, to see how they like it. i have a folding 500 watt e bike now, but useless against my 49cc mountain bike, would do 45mph easily, no range problems, up to 250 mpg. no parking problems, no pollution, or smoke. STILL the government does not see the value, you have to have a large gas guzzling 6 ft wide 2 ton car, and they will roll out the red carpet. if they change the law, or someone has done it let me know. a big hand to all innovators, would like to see sensible changes in my lifetime, but i doubt it.
Hmm, could you dump the charge from the regenerative breaking into some supercapacitors and then trickle charge whatever they accumulate into the batteries? You know, so that you have a storage buffer between the high amp regen braking, and the low amp charging?
Mate, so cool, really made up for you, can't even attempt to understand, the feeling of elation that you must of had when you received that, you showed everyone it can be done, funny you.seemed to be carrying on the narrative we started the other day, especially the hard to find pedal to pegs conversion kit, it's the bit of kit that really should be mainstream and easy to get, straight from China, we should really to try and fix that, it seems such a simple thing that would make a lot of people's rides sooooo much more comfortable, once again amazing job, Best Regards Ashe.
I also got a similar headlight via AliExpress. The brackets it comes with are slightly too large for the fork's stanchion. Did you get a new set of brackets or did you modify the originals to fit? Any help is greatly appreciated. Beautiful bike!
Awesome bike mate, loving these videos. Have you thought about a quick release set of pegs and pedals, a bit of machining should make it work. Then you could put the pedals on if you run out of power?

How fast do they let you ride on a moped in the U.K.? You need a motorcycle license to ride a moped in California and are allowed 30mph. It's tricky if even possible, getting a homebuild registered as a moped in the states--you need a manufacturer vehicle id#. Sun Ron's have a serial # that works. But you can go 28mph with just a helmet and a regular CA driver's license in California, but you must give right of way to faster traffic and cannot take the lane with other traffic around.

And if your wondering how much battery you can fit in there you could fit without controller easy 50-60 ah with liitokala cells i have 35ah in mine there technically is room for the controller but its cramped and with me haveing to pull the battery in the winter every ride i just Decided not to put it inside insted took the Side fins down on my bandsaw and then stuck the controller inside an aluminum box with some heat pads just to keep the water directly off my controller. This had me thinking, if its classed as a moped could a 16 year old ride on the road because they can ride 50cc mopeds. Could this be the way to ride something abit quicker ?
This is still so much fun sticking to the legal 15.5 MPH, the starter kit for a home build is not much more than about £300 if you have a good bike to start with. Well worth doing but very addictive, the money pit can be endless :D
Oh i agree and ive loved watching these videos and its whats got me into them. It was just a response to the in production i was pointing out that you can buy them.
as much as i love the idea of these it doesn't cost a whole lot more to get a bike like the 5kw super soco tc max which has proper motorcycle brakes ect and is already road registered which just seems a bit more appealing to me. though i think id take a zero dsr away if i had the option lol
I bet the insurance is steep....Years ago I bought a moped to save using my car. Despite being in my late twenties and having a totally clean car licence for about 8 years, the Insurance was about £90. After a couple of years I could no longer justify the cost on top of my car, which itself was only about £150. The moped proved to be an expensive toy and I reluctantly had to let it go. Uk law is an ass...15mph is ridiculously slow. 30 is ok, but 40 would be more useful in practice to have a little safety margin and better hill climb.
i had an mt50cc i put a 90 kit on it it do 50mph all day back in 98 the uk laws are terrible you would think in this modern day the uk would push electric
because its so difficult to do. i am trying but just keep getting the letters sent back to me. the DVLA are just not interested. no money in being legal.
Andy, you really should re-read the section on mirrors as you keep giving the wrong information: "The required number of mirrors is: Mopeds including Light Quadricycles - 1 fitted to the right hand side of the vehicle. It is permissible for an additional mirror to be fitted to the left hand side of the vehicle, but if fitted the mirror must meet the requirements of this inspection"
What I mean is mirrors aren’t required by law on the road on any motorcycle, at least one mirror is however needed for the MSVA test as you have quoted above. I don’t think you’ll fail an MSVA if you don’t have mirrors as it’s a weird contradiction, that’s what my MSVA tester told me, it would probably depend on the your own particular tester though.
@@andykirby you are correct in respect of general use and MoT tests; however, your video was about MSVA where there is a requirement stated. Please don't confuse people by giving incorrect or confusing information where the MSVA is clear.
The 50cc restrictions are moronic. All they do is force young riders into the gutter and put them in danger from unsighted traffic.. 45 mph would allow them to keep up with most urban traffic but stop them from killing themselves out on faster roads.
The person who called the police must be raging right about now 🤣🤣
Yes winners are grinners the rest can suit themselves
Would, soooo love to be a fly on the wall when they actually see it!
Actually the person who called the police won since it made kirk having to register the bike

Well done Andy.
Would you build battery 200kw or 100kh
Congrats man! Doin it right! 👍
Don't ya love the lean... When you're climbing hills? It's the best.
What was the maximum range you got out of it?
Now let's have all cycles registered with numberplates and insurance
absolutley outstanding! well done
So what's the range and charge time?
@Jon Doe sorry,did I say something wrong?
what mirrors did you use for that build?
Mine is 12,000 watts...need help gettin it street legal...in usa
Great video as always, would love to see more of this bike in the future videos , your channel is amazing.
"50cc”? You look like you're going a lot faster.. even tho power to weight would depend on the rider's weight because the bike is so light
you'de be surprised about how quick a proper 50cc could go. Not saying "i" have but theres an old 1989 yamy that has gone to 55 mph flat out.
Btw, what mileage does this ebike do?
Awsum video bud. Great watching ya videos. Well done congrats 👍
Can you register a higher powered version for higher speed ratings, like in terms of a 125cc which would be around 60 Mph?
His bike does 60mph
Which headlamp is that?
Just looks like you're doing so much faster than 28mph 😂
Congrats Andy! I wonder if I can get my ebike done in USA!
Is this petrol or deisel? What mpg do you get?
Neither
Well done delighted for you.
Will this now require an MOT?
Not for 3 years, and after that god knows how they will test it😂
Nice one Andy 👍 you are a trail blazer (🤔 I wonder if it could be done here in Oz)
it looks the mutts nuts. looking forward to a video on your 750watt motor kit for a bike.
i had an mt50cc i put a 90 kit on it it do 50mph all day back in 98 the uk laws are terrible you would think in this modern day the uk would push electric
So you're a motorcyclist now!
When I ride this bike yes! When I ride the others I'm an ebiker!
Andy you're probably the first in the UK to do it 👍👍🤝
because its so difficult to do. i am trying but just keep getting the letters sent back to me. the DVLA are just not interested. no money in being legal.
Please don't confuse people by giving incorrect or confusing information where the MSVA is clear.
bloody brilliant!
The 50cc restrictions are moronic. All they do is force young riders into the gutter and put them in danger from unsighted traffic.. 45 mph would allow them to keep up with most urban traffic but stop them from killing themselves out on faster roads.
Yeah agreed. Thing with electric is who’s gonna know if you run more power. ???
