I built an ebike that's too fast. Here's how I define "too fast": Every time I ride it, I blow spokes on the rear wheel. How you get away with a solid rear suspension, I don't know. Maybe all your roads and paths are smooth? In Denver and Lakewood Colorado, USA, riding in the city is so rough, you need a full-suspension bike to go over 50kpm. I've had mine up to 65kph. Pavement has potholes, buckled seams, debris, etc. Even with fat tires, and seat suspension, it blows spokes all the time. You have a very practical bike, and I'm glad it works so well in your area. Well thought-out.
I went thru the exact issue. I blew out spokes on a hardtail only lasted 10 miles then switched to full suspension 3600 miles later rim brake worn out rim walls motor still good now switched to disc brake with new hubmotor 6800 miles, my mid drive is on standby since 4yrs way too much torque only use in as backup if other ebikes go down.
ripping spokes has 0 to do with actual torque and more how you mount your spokes. they are really short and get mounted in a wierd angle they were never engineered for. thus if you dont take measurements against that they definitly will rip. I added a sort of "washer" underneath every spoke on both ends and used rims that dont straighten your spokes at all. Thus the angle doesnt hurt them so much. That way your spokes will survive to your other question, we have great roads in germany, dont need any suspension here.
@@Pryside It's not the torque or how it's mounted that breaks my spokes. It's all the potholes and bumps that break my spokes. The city roads and paths in my city are so horrible that to drive anything over them with spokes will destroy them. What I've done is I bought motorcycle spokes that are twice as thick as the original bicycle spokes. Now I wonder if hitting a bump will rip the spoke heads our of my rims? I don't think it's worth anyone's effort to build an ebike that goes faster than 50kph without full-suspension. I plan to eventually have someone custom-weld a frame to my specifications. This frame will have full-suspension. BTW, I noticed in your video that your town has some very nice, smooth streets and paths. Where I live, the temps range from -20F up to 110F. This annual temperature variation, plus freezing moisture within cracks, destroys pavement.

Awesome! My bike is really similar but with less refinements. It's a 1500W leafbike motor, with 18 fet basic controller. 74km/h with only 48V! :o (fully tucked) Really great acceleration when I set it to 70-140 A. And I'm currently building a torque arm, I agree that this is the weak point! I do not use any Regen braking yet because with the standard Torque Arm can't hold the torque in both directions. These things are so much fun!
Also I've changed both disk brakes for 203mm, braking is perfect. And I'm waiting for some larger tires to have the ultimate grip in the city! Maxxis DTH 26x2.3 (58mm), originally BMX tires, can't wait to try that out
thats really cool. yeah definitely invest the time in building a great torque arm, its really worth it when you never have to worry about anything mechanical on these hubmotor ebikes :)
This is really cool my Friend built his own ebike and it goes around 40mph and he build a huge battery he can go top speed for like 100 miles give or take a few
Its so easy actually here an idea i got this one www.ebike-bausatz.eu/499643/highpower_komplett_e-bike_umbausatz_ayw_standardmotor_250w-2800w_fur_steckkassette_lcd8h_akku_lg
Nice Video and great Project
thanks :)
Annoying how governments try to limit things like this.
Outstanding Work My Friend.
This is really cool my Friend built his own ebike and it goes around 40mph and he build a huge battery he can go top speed for like 100 miles give or take a few
I think you inspired at great scott electronics projects.
Thanks much! Hope you are still making videos, That thing looks insane!
It's like hearing a young Arnold talking about ebike builds, engineering stuff etc. Incredible!
Leo speaks better English and with less accent than Arnold ever has even at his present age and having lived in LA all these years.
Hello from Australia. I very much enjoyed your video looking forward to seeing some more. Keep up the good work.👍🏆
Hey what's up man your e-bike is very thorough will put together I like it it's not overly bulky it has everything it needs to in order to make a proper commute I love you a great work I'm here in the states just gotten into cycling for the last 2 years now I have an e-bike as well
thank you for sharing your build experience. I just began my journey with electric vehicles. I want a small portable bike that i can use to get to my hunting spots quietly. it doesn't need to travel far. It would be great if it had power to drag a deer. It can be slow. these are all the opposite traits bikes are being built for. I'm guessing small wheels are a good choice. I like the step through designs. I also think I probably want 2 wheel drive. if you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. I will be looking more at building my own since your video motivated me.
That is so sweet. I am going to watch you for more good information.

Excellent work Leo, I look forward to you detailed description of components. I am working on building a 3Kw Dirtsurfer
11.9kV... have you ever thought about adding wings? jk
Where I live I'm limited to 4kV and I'll have to get a license plus a plate 😅
Kv is a motor constant for measuring the back-emf. It tells you how fast the motor can spin a what voltage. Has nothing to do with Kilovolts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_constants
You are awesome friend. Your understanding of the subject is great. I’m excited to watch the new video you speak of making.
Amazing work you,ve done. im thinking of starting my own build and need all the help i can get. Keep up the good work and sharing your knowledge...
Hab Dich sofort abonniert. Du bist super. Gesehen mit Fynn Klimann.Weiter so.
Gesundheit.
I knew a guy who bought a motor off ebay, got two laptop batteries and modified a mtb bike. That thing can do 50km/h with no peddling, which is good in case any police cars show up.
Hab dich bei Fynn Klimansland gesehen 👍
Bicycle burnouts!!!! Yes.
Shall I able to get this product in India?
How much is the cost?
1€ my friend
you can just build it yourself. there are a lot of guides online.
Great video, looking forward to the next part...
“I even went 60km” *laughs in Roadbike*
I love how my ebike that can reach 40kmh is illegal but a roadbike that can reach 60kmh is legal.
@@Phantogram2 I've complained about this for years here in Canada, a pedal-biker gets completely overlooked because he's pedalling, but an ebike going over 32 km/h is an "offense". Nothing but dirty looks, raided workshops and thousands of dollars in stolen property courtesy of the constabulary.
But, in Canada, serial rapists gets ignored and ebikes are confiscated along with a prison warning.
cut to the chase, ill buy it. love these things. I'll leave the technicals to you.
This is like the Bugatti chirone of electric cycles 😂
CYCLIFE more like a Koenigsegg
@@khoanguyen9961 lol no there is a finnish guy with ebike that has like 25kw power.
You guys dont know about KREOSAN!?
I've just watched it again ..... and now i think i'm settled on buying this motor . I need to look for your comments / advice on controllers etc ... but i am certain this motor will suit my protect well !!!!!!
Thanks again for such a great and informative video ... looking forward to more .
I spotted your xiaomi phone...... 👍😂😅
haha, nice. glad i helped, yeah miui and the mi series have come a long way, a great cheap phone :)
Welchen Motor hast du benutzt ?
Und deine videos sind super 👍
sag ich doch im video lol. mxus 3000 der v3 3T wicklung 11.9Kv

240 Amps TF dude😯
Amazing better than one we can buy. Love the friend seat/pegs.
10 HP on a bike?
I'm not I like the sound of that.
10hp on a bike?
I’m **indeed** I like the sound of that.
Excellent engineering is that a Mountain bike frame I missed if that was mention in your video , I live in the states and look forward to watching more of your videos .
.. this guy is the proto-typical German .. amazing .. this is how they went from bicycles to the moon in 66 years ..
Pretty sure it was the United States that went to the moon and not Germany.

This is most gangsta bike i ever seen
Finally 😍
Hello from India.....Excellent work....nicely edited video....appreciated.
I noticed you were in Kassel👍🏻and speaking English ,excellent bike👍🏻I commute to Kassel on my much loved ebike I’ve had for the past 2 years. Excellent content and keep the good work up👍🏻I like your choice of language for your content 😊😊ride safe and stay Healthy
Awesome work!
I'm using my bike only offroad, where such construction isn't very suitable, that's cool you have plenty of good roads to drive around!
Amazing, i am hyped for the next episode on the bike🙌 have an 1.5kw front wheel drive e-bike with 2 batteries the main one 48V 14.5A and the second one 36V 10A. I have the second one in a backpack isolated from the cold so i can get more range from the bike. I get it up to 50km/h and 60 when pedaling. On the 36V battery
Thats quite a few batteries haha
@@Pryside yeah😅 its colder here than Deutchland (Norway) so need them batteries. And i am wondering where did you buy it and the pegs for the pasanger. I Often stand up while my friends sitt on the main seat but when hiting anything on the road they become sterile for a second if you know what i mean😂
@@amiarb7634 literally from amazon. But I had to modify them quite a bit to be really usefull

I have 2 upgrades I can reccomend put the front and back brakes to one lever so that's less wire to worry about and use wireless shifting save soo much space and very good and reliable
So when you click the bike lever they both activate and try get tubeless tires a lot more reliable
Yeah, ok that's a cool bike. I've had a look online and the parts are fairly priced. I think I'll give this a go. :)

Hi Leo I just stumbled across your video and was really fascinated by the things that you've built, I'm definitely going to subscribe to your channel and can't wait to see more.
Thanks for making the videos Daniel.
nice, thank you :)
@@Pryside Keep your chin up buddy things will pick up for you.
You work out what's best for you and how you want your life to pan out not how others think you should be.
If you can buy a reasonable property not to close to a city I think that with your knowledge and eagerness with electronics you could build yourself a very reasonable and sustainable living.
As much as you love you gadgets it's clear that you enjoy your people time and I personally feel that the best way for you to get the most of that is to get yourself through education and of course forge new relationships with new friends but not forgetting your old one and invest whatever you feel is necessary to moving towards making yourself self sustainable and removing yourself from the rat race so to speak so you can encourage a more communal living and spend more time with others.
I know it's easy for me to say that but it's not easy to accomplish it all depends on what you want from your life and from your previous video I feel people are what's what is most important to you.
Let people earn your respect don't give it freely because not everyone is as kind natured as you and opportunists will always take advantage of kindness.
Have a good day, I hope that helps you to think about where you want to be in life but never forget it's about where you want your life to go because nobody can live your life for you and anyone who does really doesn't value what you want.
You'll find your way and again thanks for your videos.

Well done young man, looks amazing, German engineering at its youthful best!
Great Video! The video 17:50 explaining the torque etc would be nice!

i think project-based learning is the real deal, compared to theory based learning you get in University!
building projects is the Ultimate booster when it comes to knowledge. you get to understand deeply what these Units actually means...
grats bro loved the build.
you should focus on CAD designs to make your Bike more personalized i believe you have great future ahead of you.
Cool bike dunno why I didnt see it before. Love how you got everything off ali Express. Hows the battery holding up?
Since my battery I completely selfbuilt with lots of care and monitored by a smart bms its holing up very nicely. Still has 95% of its original capacity and around 100 cycles on it so far, I'll give some update videos on how my batterys are holding up maybe but so far I cant say anthing bad about them. No maintenance and no issues :)
