Kakyoin's death was unfair. Think about this: You finally get to fight again, after being in the hospital for a while. Now, when you FINALLY get to DIO, you unleash a cool ultimate attack. Then ALL OF A SUDDEN, you have a hole in your abdomen.

Literally the protagonist beats the final boss music just makes it all the more emotional and tense, it puts even more mystery and tension towards DIO as a character and how easy it was for that to happen like just like that he’s dead..
Honestly its kinda like that for everyone in Jojo, they keep getting into fights that they arent allowed to show the entire capabilities of their stand. Polnareff, who coulda given us some cool-ass fights, was instead bdsm’ed to a bed and turned into a baby.
at least in the OVA he died with a smile on his face with no worry the anime version was heartbreaking because kakyoin was unsure if the message was delivered successfully, and he died worrying for his friends
I like the way that you can't actually see Hierophant's web unless it pulses. That's a really nice touch that I feel was missing from the anime, as it's supposed to be that Dio can't see it but like... it's just there, and perfectly visible.
I love how much stronger the emeralds feel in this, they have so much more impact and it feels like an actual threat. Maybe we'd all actually believe that "NOBODY CAN JUST DEFLECT THE EMERALD SPLASH!" If they hit this hard in the newer version lmao No disrespect to kakyoin though, easily one of my top 5 jjba characters
I love how they show stands from the perspective of the person fighting it and not with some cool whacky effects. Like here where we barely/cant see the barriers or later when DIO confronts jotaro for the first time and he literally just disappears, like hes there and next frame he pops out of existence, its so sick because thats what Jotaro would actually see and its neat that we get to experience it too.

I would say Jotaro would've figured it out but he would be too late to apply it. If Jotaro went with Joseph he would probably face the same fate as Kakyoin. Kakyoin essentially took a bullet for Jotaro/Joseph.
Well it is easy to figure it all since Dio is shown having the same power of Joseph too. When he destroys a camera to see that Jotaro and his mates are in the airport. If Duo’s stand has two powers, and one of them is Joseph power, it’s easy to figure out that his second power is the same as Jotaro power. PS: being stron, fast and precise weren’t the actual power of star platinum since other short range stands are also that strong and fast
The dubbing team for the OVA probably wanted to preserve some of Kakyoin’s Japanese dialect since he is the only Japanese main character who isn’t the marketable main hero. It’s a bit odd that the dubbing team for the anime didn’t do the same, considering that they pulled out every Italian curse word in the dictionary for every Part 5 character.
To be fair, a lot of the fights in the ova were changed from the source material. And from what I’ve seen it looks like all of the stands are more powerful than they are in the anime/manga. So here kakyoins power is more on par with the other stands. If you gave the milf Hunter this sort of power in the anime then nobody would legitimately just be able to deflect the emerald splash. And do you really want that?
Pokkerz yeah, a buff wouldn’t be unappreciated. But it also wouldn’t really be needed. Kakyoin is smart with how he uses his stand (most of the time), he has to be because it is relatively weaker than a lot of the other stands in the series, a power buff wouldn’t really effect him that much as he prefers to work his enemies into unwinnable situations in the first place. Like the 20m radius emerald splash, which would’ve been a confirmed kill for any stand user that they had met up until that point. So a buff would just be overkill. But, once again, I would not complain if our favourite donut got a boost.
@Otneimica What makes this even better is that when characters who say "-san" in the subbed version aren't Japanese, it's translated to "mister" in the dub, but when Kakyoin says "-san", they keep the word because he's Japanese.
Dio knew he couldn't deflect it all at once he simply stopped time and made my boy Kakyoin into a donut. At this point Kakyoin was the strongest stand user besides Dio put jotaro in Dios situation and he would have lost without star platinum knowing how to stop time
The 1994 OVA is crazy underrated. It might have the "wrong" art style, but it is very respectful to the source material and is greatly animated. You can tell the studio had great respect for Arakis' work.
I actually like this version a lot more. It does so many things better, like: -Kakyoin doesn't yell what he's doing when he does it -It shows more of what's happening between DIO and Joseph after Kakyoin was blown away -His death is more violent, with him crashing through the sign -Kakyoin hits a lot harder with Emerald Splash
I prefer the anime version however I agree with you on one thing. Kakyoin's final attack was really strong, capable of defeating almost any other stand user instantly but in the anime DIO just plays it off, making it look like he could easily deflect it even without The World which was clearly not the case.
In the Japanese version of the OAV, this scene is without any music: a nice choice considering that the time is stopped. The only thing that can be heard is the noise of Za Warudo killing Kakyoin, the blood and Dio's thoughts with a bit of reverb. Much creepier.

I love how they show stands from the perspective of the person fighting it and not with some cool whacky effects.
Like here where we barely/cant see the barriers or later when DIO confronts jotaro for the first time and he literally just disappears, like hes there and next frame he pops out of existence, its so sick because thats what Jotaro would actually see and its neat that we get to experience it too.

I would say Jotaro would've figured it out but he would be too late to apply it. If Jotaro went with Joseph he would probably face the same fate as Kakyoin. Kakyoin essentially took a bullet for Jotaro/Joseph.
Well it is easy to figure it all since Dio is shown having the same power of Joseph too. When he destroys a camera to see that Jotaro and his mates are in the airport. If Duo’s stand has two powers, and one of them is Joseph power, it’s easy to figure out that his second power is the same as Jotaro power.
PS: being stron, fast and precise weren’t the actual power of star platinum since other short range stands are also that strong and fast

The dubbing team for the OVA probably wanted to preserve some of Kakyoin’s Japanese dialect since he is the only Japanese main character who isn’t the marketable main hero.
It’s a bit odd that the dubbing team for the anime didn’t do the same, considering that they pulled out every Italian curse word in the dictionary for every Part 5 character.

To be fair, a lot of the fights in the ova were changed from the source material. And from what I’ve seen it looks like all of the stands are more powerful than they are in the anime/manga. So here kakyoins power is more on par with the other stands. If you gave the milf Hunter this sort of power in the anime then nobody would legitimately just be able to deflect the emerald splash. And do you really want that?

Pokkerz yeah, a buff wouldn’t be unappreciated. But it also wouldn’t really be needed. Kakyoin is smart with how he uses his stand (most of the time), he has to be because it is relatively weaker than a lot of the other stands in the series, a power buff wouldn’t really effect him that much as he prefers to work his enemies into unwinnable situations in the first place. Like the 20m radius emerald splash, which would’ve been a confirmed kill for any stand user that they had met up until that point. So a buff would just be overkill. But, once again, I would not complain if our favourite donut got a boost.

The 1994 OVA is crazy underrated. It might have the "wrong" art style, but it is very respectful to the source material and is greatly animated. You can tell the studio had great respect for Arakis' work.

Man this is why I like ova kakyoin because he got the drip and the good colors
I actually like this version a lot more. It does so many things better, like:
-Kakyoin doesn't yell what he's doing when he does it
-It shows more of what's happening between DIO and Joseph after Kakyoin was blown away
-His death is more violent, with him crashing through the sign
-Kakyoin hits a lot harder with Emerald Splash
I prefer the anime version however I agree with you on one thing. Kakyoin's final attack was really strong, capable of defeating almost any other stand user instantly but in the anime DIO just plays it off, making it look like he could easily deflect it even without The World which was clearly not the case.
The anime version is more faith to the manga, it's exactly the same and what is happening and the 2nd reason also happens in the anime
In the Japanese version of the OAV, this scene is without any music: a nice choice considering that the time is stopped. The only thing that can be heard is the noise of Za Warudo killing Kakyoin, the blood and Dio's thoughts with a bit of reverb. Much creepier.

Kakyoin's death in the OVA is sadder than the anime imo. The draining water really hammers in the fact that he's dying slowly and painfully, but still tries to use his last moment of consciousness to help his friends
I felt like they tried to force you to be sad in the anime where here it feels more realistic, and more satisfying
