I can agree with where you are coming from. I thought I would save myself for marriage, but then when sexual assault enters your life. That all changes! Please be sensitive to this. Because when you are talking about being perfect and someone's body was abused, they feel guilt and shame. I wanted to sleep with someone else very fast after that. I wanted to make it something special, not scary! Maybe a video on this would be helpful to many women even men.
Not as a single person but as someone in a long-term relationship, this problem is a lot different. Yes, I can see on the first date or even for the first while treating the other person like a sibling or parent. But what about after a year? Two? Five? Ten? Personally, should we get married I would want to wait until I am out of college (currently a senior in high school) and we both have stable jobs and living situations. If I'm in college only 4 years, we'll have been together almost 8 years when I graduate. The last 2 have been continuous discussions about this "how far" question because we both have very different opinions. If it really realistic not to lay on the couch together or kiss with romantic intent for eight years? We are both still virgins, but I'll be honest I kiss him every day and not the way I kiss my father, because I don't think of him that way.
In the OT if a guy rapes a gal, he has to marry no divorce. If adultery both killed, even consensual, even all three consenting insinuated. Now, if she engaged to another guy and a guy rapes her and she doesn't complain, death penalty to both. On the other hand if she lies to her husband not a vaginal virgin and GOD confirms, death penalty. He is contradicting GODS will. You don't want to marry a rapist, or one who can't orgasm you from V.I. or does you dry, if your unwilling to train, discipline him.

The implications of this simple analogy in Prov 6 v 27 is in line with the advice given simply because (and I must very humbly confess that I have walked that road and eventually had to repent from continuing walking down that road even at the risk of losing the person that meant the world to me.) It will only cement and augment your relationship and strengthen it if you stay away from sexual activity that is meant for the day of marriage.
So I'm new to faith, but I have a few questions. To me, 'rebuke' an older man means don't argue or berate them, and 'exhort' them as if he were your father means you should encourage older men like you'd do for your father. The quote then talks about treating young men kindly and treating all women, young and old, with purity. Looking up the definition of purity, it says that purity means freedom from immorality, especially sexual immorality (immorality being defined as wickedness). I don't understand how you could make this quote fit your advice to not have sex at all. To me, the entire quote is saying that we should treat all men and women with encouragement rather than condemnation, and in the case of women, not seek to hurt them in any way, including but not exclusively referring to sexual lusting. This sounds like most of the quote is talking about forgiving your sisters and brothers and helping them to be better Christians through love and encouragement. The whole thing sounds like more of a forgiveness quote with an emphasis on not being cruel and critical towards women. Another question I have is this: If we treat every woman as a sister and treat her with absolute sexual purity as you're saying the quote commands, how are we to learn enough about that person to learn if that is truly a person we want to marry? I doubt that very many men ever decided to date a woman whom he didn't find physically attractive, let alone have enough interest in her to want to get to know her in the first place without finding her attractive. Finding physical attraction in a woman then, according to your interpretation of the quote, wouldn't be considered absolute purity. So then how do we go about dating someone without violating the command to be absolutely pure in our interactions with all women?
Tom R you can still be pure with someone and learn about them and to see if you want to be married to them. What it comes down to is what would you do and how would you act if Jesus were in the room with you? If you truly love the person you want to marry you will respect them to wait and not dishonor them by letting your flesh control you. If you walk by the Spirit you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
IMHO I do think that you are rationalising what was said because in essence you did not like what he said and maybe even at present be stepping across the boundary and advice that was given. God will bless and honour everyone who abstains from sexual immorarilty which includes sexual foreplay even as it was said and mentioned and quoted in 1 Thes 4 3 - 4 but you will do well do continue reading on until the end of verse 8.

So now no cuddling till marriage, neat, is hand holding next? I agree it's a slippery slope but as long as a kiss or cuddling isn't done out of lust it should be fine... right?

Also, to the host, your future husband or wife will not thank you on the day of your marriage by sharing with them that no one ever fondled your breasts, or that you never before fondled a woman's breasts. It is not immoral to have sex in a dating relationship, everyone getting married does it sooner or later. The thing is that when you have sex the dating or friendship relationship ends and you are now married in Gods eye! Dont think a "marriage licence" some how makes dirty sex clean!? The truth is sex is good, it is all a matter of how we use it. Read the law of Moses regarding sexual relationships. Also it is lawful and ok according to Gods word for a man to have more than one wife as long as biblical principles are followed.
Don't do anything you wouldn't do with your sister or mother. That is sensible.
