Oticon More - has it lived up to expectations?

  • In this video, Emma provides an update on her experiences fitting Oticon More and whether it has lived up to the marketing promises from Oticon.
    The verdict - so far, so good. However, she does highlight that hearing is subjective, so while many of her clients have reported significant benefit with More, some haven't noticed any difference between More and other manufacturers' devices, and others have preferred other devices over More. This shows the importance of trial periods with hearing aids which allow the end user to determine whether the hearing aid is the most suitable for them or not.

    Had an Otican More fitted a month ago, although they were not cheap, my hearing has improved from what was poor hearing, especially my right ear due to natural aging and a hereditary disposition to one where I can hear and follow conversations from even the most softly spoken individuals. I can hear loud and clear bird songs for the first time in many years, and my car has a glass roof, and I heard raindrops for the first time. It has been a truly wonderful investment.

    Being an Opn S user I am keenly interested in the More. This update is very helpful in deciding how fast to proceed, not a question of if but when. I am an enormous fan of Oticon with the superb results I experience with Opn S. This company knows what they are doing and are providing great HA products.

    I’ve had my Oticon More 1 hearing aids for a month and really like them. This is my second pair of hearing aids, so it wasn’t the adjustment I first experienced in 2014 with my first pair. These sounded really natural from the start. Like jumping back into my ears from 40 years ago! The thing that stood out the most is that I can hear myself whisper softly, something I couldn’t do with my old pair. During the thanksgiving holiday I didn’t think about my hearing, which is unusual because before, complex hearing situations made me struggle, and noisy rooms made me tired. I feel like my brain doesn’t have to work as hard because the hearing aids are doing that for me. Highly recommend.

    OPN MORE compared to OPN S1 Streaming is much better.
    Soundstage is very big, depth is very good.
    The high is airy and silky not fatiguing, very lively doesn’t feel like you are listening to earphones or hearing aids very natural.
    Very Detailed, Sweet, but also dynamic. Very happy upgrade to OPN MORE.
    Thank you Mr. Shou Farn from Value Hearing for the fitting.😁

    Your reviews and updates on Oticon OPN More were helpful. I have moderate to severe hearing loss. I had Oticon OPN for 3 years and tried the Oticon OPN More. While not a "night and day" difference, I definitely like the improved sound distinction for speech, definitely hear more of my surroundings (like the radio, music lyrics), and streaming is significantly improved. I still have some adjustments with acoustics in different environments. I felt the OPN More were worth the investment.
    Do you have suggestions for terminology or descriptions when discussing adjustments to the program with my hearing aid specialist? Ways to improve listening and help train my brain to listen and process speech?

    • @ValueHearing
      @ValueHearing  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Mary.
      The Oticon More builds on the Oticon OPN S, so the sound will be very familiar with those improvements you noticed being brought on by the onboard AI. The idea of creating a glossary of terms to help you better inform you clinician is a good one. We'll add it to our list of videos/blogs. Most experienced clinicians should be very capable of interpreting your own language though and should also seek clarification through asking specific questions if unsure.

      The Resound One's wind noise benefit comes from it's M&RIE speakers. This is only available for milder loss, so does not apply to everyone. We haven't fitted too many to be honest, but the responses from those we had were mixed, with some loving them and others not so much. It is a great brand however and worthwhile trying for yourself.

    Thanks for the video. The More was recommended to my 91-year-old Mom. The audiologist did not cover what level 1-2-3 would be best for her - but simply showed her the price difference. While she has an active lifestyle for 91 it is what I would call a quiet one. For her, would there be a real difference in her hearing experience between the different levels.? Or best to save some money and just buy the basic level? Thanks!

      Hi Don, the Oticon More hearing aids are great devices, in general. They offer a very natural sound quality. We've had great fedbacks from our own clients on this. It also has one of the best sounding music programs currently available. The higher up you get in technology, the most support the hearing aids can give you in noise. More 1 offers the most programming adjustability to support you in noise, and More 3 offers the least. More 2 is in the middle. So the best level of technology for you would be one that supports your hearing goals and ability to hear in noise - has your clinician performed a speech in noise test with you? Make sure you know what your trial period is with the devices - if it doesn't suit, what are your options to exchange for something else, or return the devices?

    I purchased the Oticon more 1 a few months back and have had 3 or 4 shut downs. I thought that it was moisture but now I hear that the battery provider (Z-Power) has gone bankrupt for reasons i am not aware of. Now I am not so sure that moisture is the reason for the shut downs. Wondering if any of your clients have had this issue?

    • @ValueHearing
      @ValueHearing  3 года назад +2

      Hi Bruce, The Oticon More does not use the Z-Power battery at all (which was also user removable). The More uses a Lithium Ion cell, which does not have the issues seen with Z-Power. Does your hearing aids have the latest version of the firmware installed. If unsure, your hearing care specialist can check and update them for you. If the problem persists, you'd definitely want them sent to Oticon to be checked as it is unusual.

      Thank you for your comment Denis. A hearing aid is only as good as the adjustments made to it by the hearing care professional. A great professional using best practices can make a terrible hearing aid sound good. A provider not using best practices like REM and actually listening to client complains, can make a great hearing aid sound terrible. If first fit was all that was used, then some brands do better with that than others.

      I'm surprised at the report. We had some seriously windy days recently (MId-Atlantic coast, US). Even in winds gusting well past 25 mph (40 KmH), I was surprised at how little "wind roar" I heard. "Too loud" is also puzzling. I typically use the "no gain, no loss" or middle setting (where a "beep" becomes "beepbeepbeep")... works for me. One of my gripes about the More is the "no more gain available" or "loud as it gets" tone is also "beepbeepbeep". Accidentally cranked up all the gain, heard the tone, and thought I was back to the normal mid-range setting. (In my defense, I've been changing domes, trying to find the best domes for simply streaming music [power tips, well sealed, and the "music" program]. How the rest of the world sounded has varied with each dome I tried.) I'd tweaked the volume up and got to full gain. Sounded like Superman's "super-hearing" - yikes! Anyway, if setting your volume to the middle setting and still finding it too loud happens, I'd ask for a better adjustment of the HA's. Hmmm... I'll bet the wind noise problem is also due to a poor device setup.

The app just works even though it does not have the most options, still works great. The Phonak App is terrible and has connection issues even with 3 different top tier phones. If you have not worn hearing aids due to hearing loss, you do not have any business posting videos about them. Oticon More hearing aids suck. I am returning mine tomorrow, and will be thrilled when I do! The charger is large, and the charge itself does not last. This is without streaming. I cannot imagine how short the charge would be were a person to stream through these. The receivers and caps are enormous, and hurt my ears. I thought I had an ear infection because of the pain I experience when wearing these. The hearing quality is low. I experienced only a slight difference when wearing this overpriced garbage than when I did not. Please save yourself time and money, and purchase a reputable set of hearing aids. These are awful. I want to go back to Starkey.

    • @ValueHearing
      @ValueHearing  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for the comment, Leigh. I am sorry that your experience was obviously less than an optimal one. From your comment, it appears that the fitting process might have been less than optimal, with them hurting your ears and not making much of a difference. Did the clinician perform real ear measures on these? ruclips.net/video/kdtUyYAltoM/видео.html .
      I am interested to understand the severity of your hearing loss, as Oticon More's last all day with streaming for all but the most severe hearing loss. Oticon More is not ideal for the severest of hearing loss. With more severe hearing loss a moulded ear coupling would provide significantly improved comfort and sound quality (if leakage or under amplification was part of the issue). Saying that people's preferences do differ, so having a money-back option is great.
      I certainly hope you find a solution that works for you as well as a clinician that gives you the attention you deserve.
