  • Oticon is about to release a new hearing aid! Emma discusses her initial reactions and thoughts on Oticon's latest hearing aid, "More". Due to be released in Australia (and globally) in coming weeks, Oticon promises some ground breaking technology that completely changes the way hearing aids approach sound. With only limited information to go off (the official training isn't until next week), Emma discusses her thoughts on deep neural networks and how Oticon have approached this in the More hearing aid.
    Oticon More will be available in the mRITE-R (lithium-ion rechargeable) option only at this stage, and is compatible for direct streaming for Apple devices (requires iOS 13 or later) and newer Android devices (requires Android 8 or higher). For a complete and constantly updated list of Smartphone compatibility, go to: www.oticon.glo...

    I just got my new Oticon More miniBTE hearing aids four days ago and I am AMAZED. I was wearing Oticon Ruby BTE before (which were great) but the More have taken it to a whole new level. Clarity. Comprehension. I’m able to hear and identify subtle sound changes without being distracted or overwhelmed. Well worth the hefty price tag.

    I'm in my third week with the More Level. After reviewing a number of videos, including this one, as well as Oticon info, I decided this is the unit I wanted to start out my (new) life with HA's. It was a struggle to get to them, Audiologist #1 was keen on anything but the More. Being an HA "newbie" I went along with the idea and... fail. Passed on the product, passed on the audiologist. Audiologist #2 said "yes, we have Oticons, but try this first". "OK, if you say so, but I really want..." "Try it." "OK". Not a bad unit, effective in some regards, but not quite a winner. "Uh, the bossman doesn't like Oticon anymore, and they don't like him. Sorry, no Mores here." For a number of reasons, I regret being unable to stay with the practice, but they didn't have Mores and, darnit, that's what I came for. Practice #3 has Mores, and I enjoy working with "my" audiologist. Is the More worth all of this drama? At least for me, h*** yeah!
    Big caveat. IMHO, some people, who might benefit from what the More does, will be wrong for the More. It's a very flexible device with four programs (speech-oriented overall sound field, focus on voice straight ahead in a high noise setting, and, courtesy of my audiologist, the "hi-fi" program for music lovers. The More has a fourth program slot, reserved for tinnitus management. Push the little button on the left ear and step up or down through P1-4. (The right ear buttons set volume for both devices). In the course of the day, I jump between 1 and 3, and lots of time with 4 (tinnitus control). For folks intimidated by buttons, this becomes a bridge too far. For "sure, buttons don't upset me" folks, hello and welcome home.
    Tinnitus control: Oticon decided that different sorts of "ocean wave sounds" gets the job done. Not having sampled anything else, what do I know? It seems to work. I opted from the "calm seas at the beach" program (passed on "high, stormy waves", for example, as well as white, pink, or brown noise). I call my tinnitus level as moderately irksome to, occasionally, "wish this would stop". The Oticon surf covers it to some degree, sometimes the hiss from tinnitus blends with the "waves", but... The waves are good for just chilling out, and mellowing out. Not going to happen, but I wish I could go to sleep with the surf sound helping me nod off. It may not be true for everyone, sure works for me.
    OK, the "what really matters" part. Oticon's promotional material sounds a little "too good to be true". There are a couple "grand presentations" (think Tim Scott at an Apple introduction - that sort of thing) videos that, IMHO, are almost self-defeating. Still... Does all the Deep Neural Network hoohah (DNN's are real, and not Oticon fluff) work? Yes. In "open sound field", summarizing, I have my previous hearing back, period. Identify bird species, and find the bird in a tree? Yep. Conversation with someone beside me, behind me? Yep. Really, it's how my ears used to work. HiFi mode? I'm hearing (again) sound texture and detail that's been missing for far too long.
    So, great thanks, and "good on ya", Emma, and Value Hearing, for helping me get my hearing to what I've hoped for.
    EDIT: Came back to fix comma faults and typos, and add a disclaimer. I don't work for Oticon, Value Hearing, or anyone else in this field. I haven't received any perks, gratuities, etc. What you see is what I think.

    7k is the cost I just paid here in the U.S.A, Washington state. I can say that its absolutely amazing and definitely worth it, however they say they're only good for three years and at a 7k sticker price, I think its about 3k too much. Time will tell, but they absolutely need to make them AFFORDABLE.

    I have had the Oticon More 1 for a few weeks now and have had a lot of issues with it. Keep having to return to the audiologist to get it tweaked and have my 3rd or 4th tweak tomorrow. It got so bad that I could not wear it and used am older hearing aid instead which felt better.
    I felt like I was in a tin can, could not hear the streaming well, first mould was badly fitted, refitted mould still whistles, I have hearing loss from an accident only in one ear, sounds sound distant, and also unnatural and unbalanced and the streaming is too loud even at the lowest level making it hard to understand what is being said. I am not impressed so far as it has been very challenging and also the ear piece hurts my ear and I have been a hearing aid user for 9 years.

    Thank you. Great review. What are the biggest differences between the More 3, 2, and 1? My audiologist is giving me a price of $4300, $5300, and $6300, respectively. Some hearing loss, age 50, but Tinnitus is my biggest issue. I’ve had it for 9 years, constant 24/7. Never goes away! Is the higher price justified for the model 1 and 2 over the 3? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Money is tight right now and I’d have to finance these. Thank you for any help. Thank you!!!

    I got the Opn S in Oct '20 and have the connect clip . It is next to worthless to receive a phone call. The callers tell me that they can hear me fine but I struggle to hear them even after increasing the volume of my hearing aids to the maximum setting and then when you end the call the hearing aids stay at that max level and you have to manually lower the volume to the default setting. Has that aspect been improved on the More line?

    Not sure you got it right when you said audio streaming on Android phones requires Android 8 or higher. If you're talking about ASHA (and I'm not sure what else it could be right now), it's Android 10 and- even then- only on some phones.

    • @ValueHearing
      @ValueHearing  3 года назад

      Hi John. That's interesting! Oticon definitely have it on their website as "Android 8 or later", if you click on the link in the description, you can see it. They also claim it is ASHA in their promotional videos. We will clarify with them next week when we have our training and get back to you. Since all the other ASHA hearing aids require android 10 and up, you're probably correct and they are perhaps referring to the ON app, not streaming...but that's certainly not what the website is currently suggesting! :)

    • @alexanderkokkinos1078
      @alexanderkokkinos1078 3 года назад +1

      @@ValueHearing With Android 8, Oticon is referring to their Android compatibility for adjusting volume using the OticonON app. However for streaming calls and media, I believe John is right; clients will require an ASHA compatible Android 10 phone.

Initial comments are that they are clearer than other aids the clients have had tried previously as well as controlling noise very well. It is still early days yet, but it looks promising. Pricing in Australia without subsidy starts at $4,360 a pair for the More 3 and up-to around $7,000 for the More 1 (pair). Any subsidies and/or private health insurance rebates comes off these prices.

    Interesting. Worth learning about all brands and thanks for sharing. No custom rechargeable yet then. Often it’s important to seperate the hype from the reality as a professional. AI is already in Starkey aids. Finally an Oticon which can connect with some Android phones.. long overdue. Pricing will be interesting as well.. we’ll see..

      Hi Josh. Yes, totally agree. It appears that the difference with this approach is that the AI is on-board and not running off the phone, like Starkey and Widex do. Fingers crossed for a better charger and pricing that is not too eye-watering :) thanks for your comments and support!!
