As a lesbian woman who's an SA survivor, I do think it's a queer show! Because it speaks to a lot of us in a way that very few works of fiction have until now, especially to a lot of bi and gay men, but to bi and gay women too.
Thank you for this! I don't think anyone would be right or wrong in this conversation but happy to see how our real world vibes influence how we watch
So true. But now it seems the story is not true. I feel duped.
@@tamarazwinak1447Only if you believe the credibly accused stalker, who contradicts herself in every sentence.
I feel for this guy! I couldn’t imagine reliving my trauma for the work to see, he wrote it, created it, & acted in this show ! So well done and what a sad way to discover your sexuality 😢 great video as always
I know some folks have issues even talking about trauma, let along reliving it like this. Im happy he's in a happier spot now (I hope so cause the ending was a mess)
@@EJMoreno yeah he said in interviews the whole thing was very cathartic but tbh I couldn’t do that.. I know we all have our own traumas and I for one could not relive it like he does! Makes you feel bad for Martha too how sad and lonely you must feel to make up a fake relationship and go to those lengths to feel connected to someone
At first I was very conflicted about these series. I still am, in a way. I thought some people might internalize that “if you are not straight” or “if you like trans women”, you might have been victim of abuse. Then you reminded me of how Donny’s father opens up about his own experiences (and he is, presumably, straight). I just hope people are willing to see all the nuances here.
Well to me it’s not really about how ppl might interpret or generalize it just is what it is bc it’s real. The actor/writer’s story isn’t everyones story it’s his and he showed it so authentically and raw especially in the way he showed the SA and his conflicting feelings after about his own sexuality and masculinity. The entire show is full of nuance.
Well, statistically non straights and gender non conforming people are more likely to of been victims of sexual abuse as a child.
Wow, great video! As hard to experience as this truly astonishing show is i havent been more riveted or emotionally moved in years. Richard Gadd just out here being the most talented actor we've never seen
Thank you so much for watching! The show is so moving that I just had to dive into a small part of what it so special
I don't get gay people supporting this show. The Darius episode seems like Gagg is just projecting his flaws to the gay villain stereotype. Whether true or not , feeding into anti gay media is dangerous to all gays. The whole show was just smut. And belonged as a 2 hour lifetime movie. Gagg is a liar.
no real he presented how forever confusing being bi is so perfectly
Another great review, EJ! I binge-watched as well. It was refreshing to see the messiness and reality of an individual’s life, questioning who he is and why he is the way he is in his thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and not have it depicted as warm and fuzzy as a Hallmark movie. The SA was heartbreaking but an actual reality of the power dynamics experienced by both men and women of all ages, especially those individuals just starting out in life.
I remember being in my early 20’s and was eager and wanting to get ahead in life and being an assistant to a person in power at work. I was willing to do anything that I was asked, as all I wanted to do was to succeed and please. Thinking my actions would indeed be based on my work performance. I had an older male boss in his 50’s who pushed the boundaries of our workplace relationship to where I was dropping off documents at 10 pm at his home with him answering the door in a loosely fitting robe with nothing underneath or working alone with him in his office until 2 am with him sitting clothed, his legs spread on a sofa facing me or traveling on overnight/week-long business trips and at check-in at the finest hotels, finding my reservation canceled “by accident” and having to share a room with him out of his “generosity and always being so accommodating” of course when no more rooms were available. Something he would remind me of, especially during my reviews-all part of grooming behavior. I didn't receive a raise one year because he said I made a typo on a document. Wtf! When I reflect, I’m sure it's because our workplace relationship was never sexual. I was fortunate that nothing ever happened sexually, but psychologically, yes.
Now that I am in my late 50’s and have seen enough scary/crazy movies (Lol!) I would have definitely turned the tables on him. Haha! That is probably why I am a horror fan. 🤣 I’d be living in a mansion, driving an expensive car, and using his American Express Platinum card. Lol! Trust me, it has taken years of therapy to get where I am today and not dwell on those earlier years. My life can be messy sometimes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way as it has shaped me into who I am today-someone who is relatable for others to share their experiences with.
You touched on many points that I appreciated for their nuance and complexity
Thank you so much!
This show totally counts as LGBT+ content! It might not be the main genre, but it's a main theme and an important aspect of at least two of the 4 relationships and is a big part of Donny's internal struggles
Yessss I’ve been waiting for this vid 🥰 love u EJ❤
I didn’t plan on reviewing it but I woke up this morning and I had feelings I needed to get out 😂
Im obsessed. Thank you for covering this show its a hard watch but worth it. Even real life imitating art with Richard allegedly using the casting of his trans girlfriend to sleep with another trans actress then not give her the part😬 Its messy and I love it.❤❤
Oh my, why is this show so entrenched in some scandal? They really going wild over there
@@EJMoreno Real life season 2😬😅
Oh I didn’t know that 😮 that is sad 😞
I binged it and loved it so much!
It wasn't an easy binge, but it was a good one
EJ it's been a while. You are looking GOOD! And orange is your colour.
Thanks for stopping by. I did just cover the latest AHS season
Yes Donny was dating a Mtf Transgender and sleeping with multiple men, so that doesn't make him a straight man! He was probably struggling with his sexuality when he was with his girlfriend and more than likely was using her as a beard which could be the real real why they broke up and the reason why he wasnt really interested in her
i loved this show and how donny admits to contributing to his downfall and how he almost can’t help it
4:36 i think it does fit into the queer community
But it's also great that he discusses sexual assault from the male survivor point of view because many male survivors don't speak up
Oh God, EJ, this show was a tough watch, especially episode 4 💔 I had to take breaks during that episode 😢
As a Bi Female, i don't class this as a LGBT film.
Episode 4 was so intense. And yeah, this is one of the rare examples of a LGBT story that doesn’t take priority over the other ones. It’s hard to label but it’s refreshing
Thanks for the vid!! I’ve seen talks of this show but I can’t get myself to sit and watch it 🫣lol
I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I did but it felt so painfully real that I respected it. Also, after gaslighting and stalking being all over last AHS, this still found ways to surprise me
What a thoughtful video and review! I also enjoyed listening to Glen Weldon and Guy Branum (two gay men) discuss this show on Pop Culture Happy Hour. They were a bit more critical. I loved the show! My one quibble is the character of Teri. I found her more perplexing than Donnie or Martha. With all the conversations about Donnie ignoring red flags from both of his abusers, no one mentions Teri ignoring the obvious red flags in getting involved with Donnie. She barely knows him when he drops the bomb that they should lie low because some crazy chick is stalking him. That should have been her cue to say “Bye-eee!” Instead, she’s like “I want to meet her. I want to talk to her” Are you f-ing kidding me?! WHY? And then, when she finally does meet Martha and is violently attacked, and Donnie does NOTHING, she still tries to make it work with him! And she’s a freaking therapist! What on earth did she see him that made it worth all she went through before finally dumping him? I couldn’t with her. And to me her character never rose above being a “Magical Trans”.
Not gonna lie, Teri needed to run from this man. I think it's a show about hurt people and what we do in these moments; everyone is a bit messy and will latch on to people. Keily’s mom did it to Donny when her son passed.
100 true or not, its very honest
Apparently the incident with the trans character is false along with other claims. It's devastating to see what is unfolding after the interview with "Martha" on Piers Morgan.
Is he openly bisexual? When did he say that?
He should have done something the moment he googled her. He wanted to use her I think but idk in an unconscious way maybe

Since when is a queer show a category of its own?
4:28 why can’t people just be fluid in their sexuality? Does it always have to be so is it black is it white type of shit. Everything is gray. Done
In my experience, and I have quite a bit, people are very rarely fluid. Bisexual and pansexual folks often lean towards one. Not saying it doesn’t happen but from the men I’ve been with and the women I know, ehhh.
Also, this isn’t really a massive look at sexuality as a whole, but more so looking at the character Donny.
great video
