This was one of the best series I've ever watched. I cried multiple times, and some of the things he said made me realize things about myself and how certain traumatic incidents in my life have affected me.
Yes it was unbelievable and the way he was able to put feelings into words was powerful.
This is why it’s resonating with all walks of life. Most of us are just walking trauma centers
The show is so good. So many emotions I went through in a day's watch. Richard Gadd and cast deserve more recognition and nominations next award season. Thank you for reviewing this show.
It was so well done! The whole cast was amazing and I really appreciated how he was able to discuss very difficult topics with such grace
So true. That it's showing the gray in the situation and that you could feel for a person like Martha, in the same time you want to run as fast away from her.
exactly! I did not hate her because he didn't hate her and I thought that was powerful
Baby Reindeer is an absolute masterpiece that held me spellbound from start to finish. While some may struggle to accept the reality of someone as mentally disturbed as Martha, it's important to acknowledge that individuals like her do exist, and many of them engage in cyberstalking almost as a profession.
💯 and the fact that she was a women helped . The number of people like her online stalking and desperately seeking attention from people they don’t know is terrifying. With the internet it’s almost impossible to stop it
In a way am glad Netflix didnt advertise this series as well as they should've, cos I went in not knowing what to expect and I was blown away. Watched it good and once that's how good this show is. Well done to Mr. Richard Gadd.
Yes it took me by surprise. The poster looked like it could’ve been anything. Even there aesthetic of the show was really well done
I recently moved overseas. On setting up my TV and streaming accounts, I saw that this was the number one show in Greece today and went in blind. I binged the whole thing. Amazing show!
@laurettelaliberte8864 it exceeded my expectations
Yes, some parts are difficult to watch, but it is so worth it in the end. After the last episode, I was in tears, but at the same time giving Richard Gadd a standing ovation that he so richly deserves.
Agreed! I haven’t been this impressed by a show in some time
I loved this show so much. I didn’t know it would expand beyond the stalking but I’m so glad it did and how he told his story so unfiltered. I’m a woman and when I was SA’d it was under very different circumstances, yet I have never felt so understood. These types of stories where the lines are blurred are just as important as the black and white stories where there’s an obvious bad guy and victim. I understand every thought and emotion he had and I felt myself wanting to hug him the entire time. That feeling of dread, hopelessness, and defeat is the most relate part of his story. He’s a hero to me now because of all that he’s been able to do with his life despite what happened❤️
Thank you Shelby for this beautiful comment 💕 I think as you said the way he was able to describe his own feelings was what made this show exceptional.
He was trying so hard to push through but it was destroying him. I think this show went beyond stalking and really captured what it feels like to be a victim
Your analysis of the show is so good. Thank you for posting. The show is amazing, hard to watch, cringy, frustrating, sad, brutal, honest. A MUST watch
Thank you Billy 🙏🏾 and yes this is show is so so real. I still can’t believe he played himself on the show
Spot on anaylsis. You unpacked the complexities of this powerful series very well. Thank you.
Thank you for watching 🙏🏾
I just watched it and Im still coming down from the roller coaster of emotions! I watched it all in one day even though it triggered me so much, it was just too engaging to stop watching! Thanks for insight, it filled in some blanks for me❤
Thank you Martha 💕 it was so emotional. I think we are not used to men speaking about these topics so it felt one of kind.
Weird how everyone can see how Richard also went on to do horrible things due to trauma but can't understand that Martha did horrible things due to trauma too. I'm 100% sure Martha didn't want to hurt Richard but that was attracted to something because of something that happened to her. She didn't want to shame him either she thought everyone already knew something happened to him because it was posted openly.
I don’t cry easily, but this show caused me to break down. Gadd is such a great actor, but he may be an even more supreme writer. This show is simply unbelievable, I had no idea it would be this affecting. I’m a little numb after viewing it. Wow.
Thank David for this comment! It was. Very emotional and the writing was unbelievable. He conveyed so much without saying too much
@@alwayswatching2295 Yes, I thought it was perfect. Thank you for your learned explanation of some of the motivation behind these characters. There is so much to take in with this series.
Great video!
Wow! 🤯 This series blew me away. Every episode had me fully invested, and the execution was top-notch. The most impactful moment for me was when Donny's father confessed to being a Catholic altar boy. It is always crushing to see how a parent's actions can cause harm to their children, but it was also the moment when Donny seemed to reclaim his power. By learning the source of his madness, he could move forward. Overall, the series was fantastic, and I appreciate your great review, as always. 🥂
Thank you autumn 💕 and yes that scene with his father was brilliant. He didn’t say much but it was enough to understand what it meant.
I’m impressed by how much he could pack in to 30min episodes
I only watched this series because it was directed by the same person that directed The End of the F-ing world. Man I'm glad I watched. I was yelling at my tv 70% of this series, then saying okay Donny I know you're trying your best but please get some help. Best character is Donny's dad. From him dealing with Martha's calls to him supporting Donny when it all came out. Just 10/10
It’s definitely a 10/10. I didn’t know it was the same director from end of the world 🤯. Donny dad in that scene was perfect. He didn’t have to say much for us to see his pain
FANTASTIC REVIEW ! 💯👍 I want to see this now. Hadn't heard much about it AT ALL ! 😮
Thank you 💕 I found it randomly! It was not advertised well. The poster is horrible . It’s now getting traction online
I watched it based on your initial post. What a ride. It really speaks to how hard it is to escape self hatred/loathing.
I’m so happy you watched it. I loved the last scene bec he starts to forgive himself. His narration was so so raw.
Such a great show - it really illustrates the nuances of human psychology and behaviour in a way I haven’t seen before. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves! Unbelievable that the actor playing Donny is the person all this actually happened to… re-enacting all this must’ve been so hard and triggering, but he did an incredible job.
It really does, I don’t know how he played himself. I liked how he didn’t try to romanticize himself or demonize anyone. It was so impressive.
Your analysis was absolutely spot on. I adored the show so much that I plan on rewatching it soon. I haven't seen 'I May Destroy You' yet, but I'm planning to watch it very soon.
Thank you Cheryl 😊 also please take care because I may destroy destroyed me , it’s a heavy watch
It also helps men see grape from different view. They're always quick to ask women, "Why didn't you say something when it was happening to you?" He experienced what women go through and help understand why it takes so long for women to report being graped. The writing is great on this one. It draws you in.
Good point!
i went in without knowing anything about the show and oh man it was a rollercoaster!!
Same it took so many dark turns
I finished the show hours ago but I can’t help but watch more interviews and perspectives on it. It really takes your breath away
Thank you for the comment Nicole ! It’s one of the best shows Netflix has ever produced
Hey nice job talking about show - I knew it was a must watch when there was a quick series of scenes of Martha wearing different outfits to entice Donny, blasting through the bars front door. I fell off my bed, at scene of Martha wearing red polka dot dress and fascinator hat.
Great review. You capture the complexity of this series very well. Amazing performances by two lead actors. Other actors were stellar as well. Loved the character of Teri.
Thank you Rose! And yes Terri was so well acted and well written
@@alwayswatching2295 Teri was the voice of reason and truth. She provided a grounded presence in the midst of Donny and Martha’s chaotic and psycho-disturbing stories.
I think he went back to Darrien to confront him but then couldn’t…
Oh my god... I came across a clip from Tiktok and it peaked my interest. Having a stalker messed up my relationships and the way I interacted with others, and though I haven't watched this series, I deeply relate to what's been said in this video. Craving the interest and validation they give you is real, and I thought I was crazy for sometimes missing them, bc I felt no one would ever care about me with such passion [when it's really obsession]. I'll check out this series!
Omg Joe! What made them stop? initially I couldn’t understand why he missed Martha but the more he opened up about himself it was clear he didn’t miss Martha but her affection.
Check out the series but I warn you it’s triggering! I
@@alwayswatching2295 It was not as severe as this case, ultimately becoming a ghost on socials and graduating teared us apart.
Thank you, I'll be careful then!
No, it did not peak your interest. It piqued your interest. P I Q U E. That's the word you thought you knew how to use.
You should check out the Benedict Cumberbatch mini-series "Patrick Melrose". It also a true story involving male trauma and the damage it inflicts through adulthood. A fantastic series and wonderful performance by Benedict. I think you'll like it if you enjoyed Baby Reindeer
I watched this years ago and loved it. It didn’t get enough attention
love to see the reaction that series causes now. it hits like a bomb on social media. well deserved! Haven't seen something so good in a very long time. I think cause its deeply human. there is no black ad white- right or wrong. good or bad. It plays with your judgement constantly. you wanna hate martha for the psycho she is till you see her tragic vulnerable side and you switch to feel immediately sorry for her. you can't understand the passive behavior of donny until it makes sense after episode 4, so you constantly shift from one feeling to the other and i think thats why it is so successful.
Agreed it does constantly test our judgement. I went back and forth between hating Martha to feeling bad for her.
Even with Donny he is so frustrating yet so relatable at the same time. I think the way he described his thought process was so honest .
I agree! The only comparison I have to this show is Beef. Both shows felt so visceral.
Great review of the series. hard to watch in places but funny, sad and honest. It is similar to I will destroy you. One of the best series of year and packs a powerful punch.
Thank you 🙏🏾 it’s so well done and very memorable
oh dear! This sounds downright harrowing. Am wondering if I can actually watch it.
It starts off as a cringe comedy and takes a full 60. There are trigger warnings for the most traumatic episodes but by the end you will feel burned out by it. It’s so so well done
Word of caution, it is, I felt emotionally wrecked after watching it, take it easy afterwards if you do
@@ordinarybread oh gosh. I'm still preparing myself. I just watched a review of it on Double Toasted and thought... oh dear, this is gonna stress me out.
Totally agree! I loved it! Just finished. I loved I May Destroy you as well and noticed the similar tones. I kept playing It’s Gonna Rain in my head for certain scenes 😮. I feel as though toxic masculinity is one of the causes for the poor publicity. Sadly, I have personal relationships with some who will not be able to see the depth of this series. They too enthusiastically embrace the limitations of toxic masculinity, how it limits one’s full exposure to all of humanity
Thank you for the comment 🙏🏾
Over whelmed after watch it , felt bad with what was happnened in the end , amazing character and played it really well...bang on , must watch .
It is one of the best shows Netflix has ever produced
great video about this!
Thank you 🙏🏾
For some reason, this show actually gave me a very similar feeling to what I felt when I read ‘No Longer Human’ by Osamu Dazai (or at least, the Junji Ito adaptation).
Great analysis! I loved the series. The seventh episode made me cry 😢
Thank you Kim 🙏🏾 and yes that last scene broke me
this series will grab most of the awards this year trust me
Yess I just said this is the male I May Destroy You. Both so fantastic. Love your review!
Both should be mandatory viewing!
Awesome video my friend, as a movie reviewer myself, I enjoy your style. 🙌🏻 keep up the great work my friend.
P.S I just subed 👍🏻
Thank you so much and welcome to my channel Maxwell 🔥
@alwayswatching2295 Thank you my friend 🙌🏻 I'm also planning on reviewing Baby Reindeer soon.
This show is next level good! just amazing
Dang, okay, I'll give it a chance then
Too draggy, here to find out the end
