There's a saying that "comedy is tragedy plus time." It suggests that many comedians use humor as a coping mechanism to deal with their own personal struggles or hardships. So, while they may appear jovial and entertaining on stage, they may also carry a lot of sadness or pain when they're not performing. It's the irony of finding laughter in the midst of sorrow.

THIS is real life. it happens way more than anyone thinks. sexual abuse is extremely common (especially in men and how the shame eats away at you inside) most people watching would be confused why he went back to his abusers but they also do not understand that his trauma would've resulted into having stockholm syndrome from the abuse. im glad he turned this into a series bc it will be helping so many people out there and it'll give them something to relate to. it'll give them a sense of comfort and relief. im also happy ryan chose not to live out of shame because once you live by your truth and are honest and honourable with yourself and others.. everything changes. how you live your life and how you see yourself changes. he did a good thing and deserves every penny he makes off this show. anyone reading this, please know you are not alone and i encourage you to heal from your abuse. try seek therapy, tell someone you can trust and never let shame overcome your life. it's a journey but trust me there is light at the end of the tunnel. this man is living proof darkness can turn into light.. thank you ryan. thank you for speaking your truth and creating the most authentic tv show i've ever seen in a long time. im so glad this reached worldwide and i couldnt be more happier for you. you deserve this. you deserve the world!

The Netflix series Baby Reindeer is literally just a show about Richard Gadd failing as a comedian and then accepting a job from his rapist. I don’t know how they have spun this as courageous. Dude should’ve called the cops instead of letting a most likely serial rapist free and then accepting a job from him. The fact that he then went and cashed out on the story is even more fucked up. And I absolutely sympathise with anyone who has been sexually abused (there are a lot of people which is scary) but I personally believe he had an ulterior motive in making this movie and its monetary gain. Also being in Edinburgh and in the art world one cannot be this naive to know what a “influencer “ would be after. Look at all the promotors/agents/ movie directors who have been named in sexual assault cases.
