    I understand you skipping the brutal scenes but I do think the voice over that follows when he is messed up after and confused and doing risky behaviours are pretty important to understanding all the decisions he makes going forward with Martha. Its not like 13RW where its unnecessary trauma for the sake of shock value

    Shame u missed a vital part of this episode - it gives u context about his psychological state with the drugs, sexual violence & how it messes up his mind & how confused he gets regarding his emotions & it’s repercussions when he encounters Martha later. I know it’s a hard watch but it’s a significant part of the human psyche & how it can be distorted by traumatic experiences & why it gets internalised due to shame 😢

    One of the strangest things was how Darrien was waiting with a towel and hugged him when he got out of the shower. I’ve never seen a rap*st be portrayed that way before. It made me think a lot about his pov, did he know what he did and felt some guilt? Or did he fear Donny leaving him and tried to make them closer? Or was he really in deep denial about it all, thinking they had a great relationship? Either way it’s good to nuance things cause most rap*sts don’t see themselves as that. Few have the intention of assaulting someone and givning them trauma for life, but it’s not the intentional damadge that makes it an assault, it’s the lack of consent.

    • @Threeleebird
      @Threeleebird 26 дней назад +4

      I think it was an attempt to appease Donny's emotional state, obviously it didn't suit the guy if Donny left his apartment broken and desperate, which could lead him to confess what he was doing to him, plus comforting him would make him not see him as "a bad guy" and implant the idea that everything will be fine.
      Abusers can be very persuasive and manipulative to get their victims to remain silent and indoctrinated.

    • @theConquerersMama
      @theConquerersMama 24 дня назад +7

      I think it's complex for Darrien as well. That's part of what makes it such a well written and acted piece.
      So many in his position don't feel that they are monsters or rap*sts. They think the person in Donnie's position consented just by virtue of being there, taking the drugs, not leaving. By coming back.
      It's the insidious grooming and trauma bonding. The weird way that they feel like they are in a caring relationship.
      Even though it's obvious F-ed up. On so many levels.
      This kind of relationship abuse as opposed to a random stranger act of violence is so soul killing.
      Trauma is trauma. It isn't a contest. But the levels do twist the person as its ongoing trauma.

  • @Kellyeeeee
    @Kellyeeeee Месяц назад +2

    I didn't go to acting school, but I did go to art school (SAIC) specializing in "performance art" and yes it was just like that. Someone was frequently processing trauma through performance. Then I would go next and present something comedic which relieved the tension at best, but was awkward and odd most of the time.

This show is different because it's based on real life, and I've never seen it portrayed so accurately. From the grooming to the after-effects. How the violation seeps into every facet of the person's life, morphing and corroding their personality and sexuality while excavating everyone else who loves them to the pits as well. Very well done.

    When I watched baby reindeer i didn't know what to think , but as disturbing and cringe as it was watching it , i was very intrigued and became more curious by it as it went on , similar to the netflix documentary of "jeffery dahmer" again sick and very disturbing, but I was intrigued to find out more about what he had done to his victims and their families, similar to what supposedly had gone on here.
    The guy that's using donny actually is similar to jeffery dahmer with what he does with donny , getting him high then taking advantage of him. Not very nice to watch that very weird and disturbing imo.
    However at 10:45 I dont know if anyone is aware of this , but donny here is basically describing the real life legend and icon of American wrestling " Stone Cold Steve Austin" from WWF / WWE , just changed his name to " Hangman Harry".
    That's the Stone Cold Steve Austin character all over, beer swilling , brawler from Austin, Texas that loves to swear as much as drink beer after beer and doesnt listen to anyone or take 💩 from anyone. I know this as I grew up watching WWF Attitude Era / WWE of American wrestling since I was a child and the Stone Cold Steve Austin character gimmick was and still his massive in wrestling even to this day.

    • @theConquerersMama
      @theConquerersMama 24 дня назад +2

      If you listen to what you actually say to the viewers, we think you did not watch it because you said "I just skipped ahead because I don't feel like watching those kinds of scenes... not in the mood...I was going to just end it but then there's Teri. A nice welcoming face."
      So it doesn't look like you listened or comprehended this part.
      Although you might have and just edited it out. Obviously SA is unpleasant. It was handled with honesty and sensitivity but it's triggering to many people. I don't think you need to be a victim to find it outside your comfort zone.
      I had a hard time with it.
      But if I had a channel, I would be more respectful of people's time and less flippant with the material.
      People aren't on you because they want to see you in shock but because it's vital to the storytelling.
      Well, perhaps some watch to see shock but most are telling you flat out that by not at least listening, you are missing pivotal pieces of the narrative that are important to understand the whole work.
      It's reductive to just go"abuse is icky" and the aftermath is gross.
      But hey, at least you are transparent about it. So respect for an honest reaction to tough material.
      It will no doubt affect the quality of the rest of this project.
