I had such a hard time prying it off. I ended up using a map torch until the big part of the switch popped off. But that left a small amount of metal still on the shaft. I ended up just using the map torch again for about a minute and the metal around the shaft melted like solder. Just a pointer so people dont have to struggle getting it off. When it doubt, burn it out.
I sprayed mine with some wd40 and some kroil and finished it up with some fluid film and it's soft as butter , I didn't need to replace the NSS- worth a try before replacing.
Thanks for this. My part was 3 days away, so i sprayed it for 3 days with penetrating oil. And that helped absolutely nothing 😂 It came off exactly the way yours did Took about an hour Heat is what did it Thanks
I've owned 3 4runners up to now and none were bad on any truck, one i had for 11 years with over 420k on it and never any issues. Put some thick grease/anti seize to prevent corrosion.
thanks,.. i`m doing my 1996 T-100 now.. ( everything`s loose, and- like you said- the pinch bolt is holding it on. will do this this morning, while i am fresh. again, thanks....
Question? If I reach down to the transmission and switch manually the neutral control to drive with is damaged if safe to run to my house? If not going to switch back to R or P again in the road ?
Yes, That is fine to do To get where you need to go. It won't switch back automatically. It would take a lot of force to do it on its own. You should be fine to do that. I did it with a subaru last week and it was okay
Yes! It needs to be in Neutral while replacing, i did two videos on this on my channel, let me link the other video so you can watch both, between both it should show you everything you need
Did you clean the shaft with a wire brush and then grease it? Also you will have to knock it on a little bit Because it is a tight fit. So just take something in lightly. Tap it on until it seats all the way back.

Pinned!
For removing part a gear puller works really well. Just place the hooks on the back side of the part and use the shaft to pull it off.

Awesome, hope it continues to work for you

Is there a techstream calibration or initialization that goes with replacement?
No sir, as long as its lined up with the neutral mark like i explained
And you may have to clear the codes
Question? If I reach down to the transmission and switch manually the neutral control to drive with is damaged if safe to run to my house? If not going to switch back to R or P again in the road ?

You should be fine to do that.
I did it with a subaru last week and it was okay
Did you take off transmission cooling lines for access?
@rabbit3502 nope, didnt have to.
I did 2 of these in the past two weeks and didnt have to remove them on either one
thanks man!
I had this part fail twice on my 2020 4 runner. Toyota had to fix it under warranty. Why me?@@Motorcycle_Man
I’d be careful with heat there is a seal there.. at the end of that shaft
Yes sir you are right, Im very cautious because of that seal
new to cars, do i need to stay in a certain gear when replacing this?
Yes! It needs to be in Neutral while replacing, i did two videos on this on my channel, let me link the other video so you can watch both, between both it should show you everything you need

At 3:29 it explains your question in the video i linked
Make sure it's on neutral
@@rv3789 correct
Why is it so hard to put the new switch on?
Did you clean the shaft with a wire brush and then grease it?

Warranty .5hrs
That sucks..
The only way I can see it taking that long as if you recently replaced it and greased and it went bad shortly after
Unplugging. Ridiculous.
Huh?
