    I put a 91 gallon RDS gravity-fed tank in my 94 Chevy diesel and if I'm not towing I calculate fuel usage from miles to the tankful to months to the tankful. It's a great product and I've had zero issues, so far.

    That line you called overflow is actually air vent line. It is what allows the fuel to actually drain quicker. Think of it like shotgunning a beer. If you don't pop the tab of the can the beer flows out slowly. But once you pop the tab to allow air it rushes out.

    Only problem I have with gravity feed is,
    Water is heavier than Diesel fuel, water goes straight to the bottom and is the first thing in your truck tank.... as much water that is in the fuel now days, I fill my truck from the transfer tank but it goes through two water separators and a 2 micron filter before it goes in my truck. This keeps my truck system water and debris free.

      Quick question, I always hear about high amounts of water in diesel fuel. I have a water separator on my truck and two fuel filters. I have never had an issue with water. I also do use hot shots everyday which has water separating properties but where does the water go?

  • @DerekNS74

    You should have left a half inch gap in front of it. That thing is gonna be banging the front or the bed on every bump. And you are supposed to put the foam tape on the raised ridges of the bed, not the tank. Wow.. lol.. now I see you are hard mounting it. It should be spring bolted.

  • @nootnop2
    @nootnop2 3 года назад +1

    That was a good video. On my F350, I did the same thing with my vent hose. Found out that where it touches the bed or cab it was rubbing the paint off. It also had fuel on both the cab and bed that the wind blew all over. The fix was to route the over flow hose thru the same hole as the the fuel hose. not as messy. I want to know how much room you have between your tool box and 5th wheel

    • @ViseGrip1974
      @ViseGrip1974  3 года назад

      Actually I don't use my toolbox when I tow my camper because of the fuel tank I don't have enough space between the 5th wheel and the toolbox. May tool box is 20" across the top. I just take my toolbox off when I hookup our camper. But if I didn't have a fuel tank in the bed I would have 10 1/4" between the toolbox and the 5th wheel. Hope this helps.

    My friend I have a question for you thank you in advance. I wonder if is ok if you leave the little gate valve in open position all the time ?

    • @ViseGrip1974
      @ViseGrip1974  Год назад

      Hey thanks for watching and for the comment! Yes sir you can leave the flow valve open all the time if you want to. I would do that for sure if I was traveling on a long trip. Say for example you get going down the road and you notice you have about a 1/4 of a tank of fuel in your main tank because you forgot to open the valve after you filled up the gravity tank. You then decide to stop at a rest stop and open the gravity tanks flow valve. The tank will fill at a rate that will fill your main tank as you are traveling down the road however it will be slow but it will fill it. I love it it's great for long trips.

    Great video, just finished installing mine on my 06 Sierra. Noticed where you ran the fuel line to the filler neck it seems like there’s a pretty shallow spot there that would hinder the flow. Any problems with that? Reason I asked is cause mine comes out on a slight upwards angle from the tank to where it goes through the beside. Thanks

    Doing the same on my ford 2015 6.7 - I’m thinking about adding a small pump to help move the fuel over and run it to the power up switch.. now that you have run yours for a few months do you leave the value open all the time or turn it on and off. Is an electric pump something you’d suggest?? Thanks for your install video- I went with an RDS combo 60 gal with small box on top and adding a roll up bed cover to help secure the bed.

      So far the way I have used the Aux tank is I will use the OEM tank first till it is time to refuel it. Then when the truck is just sitting and not being used I will open the Aux valve and let the OME tank refill. I have not taken any long trips with our 5th wheel due to Convid this year so I just can't say fo sure if it will push up and out through the filler neck or not. I will say I filled up my OEM and the AUX tank before I left the beach the other day and kept the Aux valve off till I got home (3 hr drive) and let the OEM tank refill overnight and I had no pressure build up for me drive home that day.

    • @kevinrogers4223

      Hook It Up Outdoors - we have kept aux tank with gravity valve open all the time. Fill it up and have had no issues at all. Put a locking cap on factory to remind us to make sure aux tank is empty before taking off factory tank. We fill factory tank then move nozzle to aux tank. When the gauge starts to drop we know it’s time to look for fuel! Works great with no issues.

      I have the RDS Combo 40 Gallon Tank / Toolbox. Gravity Feed Only at this time. If I let the aux gravity feed to the main (times my truck fuel gauge faults and shows empty). I have no filter as your install but am thinking of adding one. I figured I would just let my main filter filter the fuel. I have had some issues with only getting 2,500-7,500 miles/filter rated at 15,000 miles. 07.5 Duramax LMM 107,000 miles. I carry a spare filter but it is somewhat a pain to change due to it’s location. Possibly might add a AirDog system….👍

      Thanks for watching and the comment and questions!! Question 1: No with this tank you can turn the valve off and on as you like. Question 2: I I positioned the valve under my bed so it was on top also I think the valve is made so that the fuel only flows one way. I have never had any issue of fuel going back up into the tank. You will love this setup I know I do. Good luck!!

    • @michaelcastro5339
      @michaelcastro5339 3 года назад +6

      If you leave the tank valve open like in this gravity-fed unit, you can't fill the bottom tank like you used to do, because if there is any gas on the top tank you would cause a mess since the fuel will gush out when you open the fuel port in the truck... so get used to only fill up the top tank...trust me you will only make that mistake once. Also, you don't have to leave it open to the tank all the time... but what is the point of having a bigger tank if you have to stop, get out of the truck turn it on and get back inside to continue driving, just use the setup like if you only had 1 large tank and never worry about it again.

    What do you do about the air vent on the stock tank - or is there one? Since the fuel level of the auxiliary tank is higher, once the stock tank fills, wouldn't the fuel then start flowing out of the original air vent? Unless you stop and close the fill valve from the auxiliary tank and only open it when filling the stock tank. I would assume the stock tank air vent would need to be rerun and extended above the new transfer tank, then the problem goes away. How did you address this problem? Thanks

I am not sure exactly the best answer to give you on this but once you fill the main truck tank and then fill the gravity tank it will not let any more fuel into the main tank because it is full so it's just like filling only one tank. The gravity tank valve will only allow fuel to flow in once the fuel goes below the valve I install in the main filler neck. I have never had any issues with fuel escaping at all.

Works perfect travelling cross country pulling our toy hauler.
