- In grateful memory to Gary Brooker (1945-2022)
Procol Harum performing the "REUNION" concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Greenwood Singers at the Jubilee Auditorium 29/30 May 1992
Line up:
Gary Brooker- voc, piano
Don Snow- org
Mark Brzezicki- dr
Geoff Whitehorn- guit
Dave Bronze- bass
David Hoyt - conductor
"Conquistador" originally was released on Procols first album (1967).
The orchestrated version, taken from the "Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra" LP (1972) was a hit single in many countries.
The 1992 REUNION concert in Edmonton celebrated the 20th anniversary of Procol's most successful album release.
The band performed Conquistador twice: this is part of the regular second set, the euphoric fourth (!) encore will be a separate upload (highly recommended).
5 October 2024, back again. Gary did a great job with this song. Miss ya Gary
Rest In Peace, Gary Brooker!
One of my favorite songs with a story told. That standing ovation was something special. Gary Brooker, Procol Harum and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra nailed it solid. God Bless.
All the musicians in this video were bang on !! 👍🏻🎵🎶🎸
Да, очень круто!👍
❤
You're very right.
It was my favorite group from the late 60's and beginning 70's.
I had all their records and have seen two times a concert of them.
Ofcourse they were not as famous as some other British groups, but real fans could appreciate them.
With "A whiter shade of pale" they made one of the best songs ever recordered and it will have good memories to many people and is my "all time" favorite song.
May they both rest in peace, Mr. Gary Brooker and Mr. Keith Reid and let us be thankful for all the beautiful songs they made for us.
I was at the 1971 concert with my mom when they recorded the album. Sadly I had tickets to this concert as well, but had to work and gave the tickets to my mom and uncle.
What a fabulous matching of Gary's voice his band , Edmonton Band .It will never be matched !
The guy playing the horn. Peek life moment..❤
Absolutely fantastic!!! Gary Brooker with a tremendous vocal delivery. The orchestra nailed it. I can't say enough. This song touches me to the core.
Gary booker is a king of rock and roll.
A brilliant lively performance by all the band. I particularly like the subtle drumming by Mark which drives this forward and Don Snow's organ solo at the end. "Oh we might do it again" said Gary... and they did!
Love this man, Gary Brooker. I'm still mourning his death.
me too.
I love him too ❤
So Who's Still Listening in 24.. Almost 25...?
For me one of the greatest songs ever written. This performance and the one live in Denmark ( much later) are just sublime.Still remeMber you Mrr Brooker and THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I think I was 11 or 12 years old when I heard this song for the first time. It's one of the songs that has stuck with me. I have always loved how Procol Harum uses symphonies in there productions. RIP Gary. ❤️😥
Wow, I feel.exactly the same. Age, this brings me back to, the feeling. I love the music, Gary Brooker. He loved to make great music. Absolutely.the best. God bless Gary Brooker. God Bless you.
I was 18 in 1972 when I first heard this. It might have been the year it was released. I also heard for the first time Nights In White Satin in summer of 1972. Both used orchestras for background
@@lawrencemay8671 If I recall correctly, "Conquistador" originally came out in 1967, and wasn't one of their greatest successes at that time. However, in 1971 or '72, they rerecorded it with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (which really *made* the whole song, in my opinion), and the new version became a huge international hit. Either way, it was a truly epic song that deserved all the airplay it could get!
As for "Nights In White Satin," that was also a great track from this amazingly talented group.😉
@@lawrencemay8671 Procol and the Moodies were 2 of the GREATEST prog-rock bands of all-time, eh? I was 21 in 1972 and grew up with them! 💖💖🎵🎵🎹🎹
And they created poetry, not just rhymes. ❤
Thank God for these great recordings, Gary and the gang deserve all the immortality this brings. Generations will love this song far, far into the future. . . .
I have listened to ConQ a 100 + times. It is my Anthem. The guitar and organ solos are thrilling. Brooker is a treasurer. I am so thankful to a pal who introduced me to PH 2 years ago. I did the same for dozens of my friends. PH and this work will live forever. Selby Scottsdale AZ
RIP
The original recording was with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as well.
I was lucky enough to have been there, and had tickets to this one as well but had to send my mom& uncle so I could go do stupid work!
There will never be music anywhere close to as good as this ever again.
What a trip that must have been for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
In 1971 the band was genuinely humbled to be playing with what they considered one of the world's most professional symphonies. I was lucky enough to be there.
I absolutely love this song ❤! I have this Album on Vinyl Record
Likewise - check the concert he did in Denmark, 2006 if you haven't already. Gary Brooker was one of a kind - may he rest in peace. 🙏
What an honour and privilege to have seen this today for the first time
I was there in person. This was incredible. I'd like to see more of this. Cheers! ✌️
Me also. Feb 14,2023. First time seeing this.....Goosebumps....
This song as many others back then, music of many layers. Love the mix of classical, jazz and rock by bands like this, Moody blues, the who, other prog bands even bands like Chicago.
Magnificent! They don't make 'em like this anymore and never will. This man had an amazing voice. R.I.P.
The internet does have its good moments to view this is one for me...
Excellent.....✌
you can see it on their faces, they knew they nailed it, classic song
This song came out of nowhere, so unique, one of a kind, but was fully excepted as one of the great tunes of it's time
So true sir . . . . .and beginning of social awareness of how us in North American actually got here
Never get tired of this. Thanks to the Late Gary Brooker Family.
Man, his voice still sounded great! I always thought this was such an evocative song, it’s great to see people still enjoy it.
I was 12 when I first heard this. Love it since. Hauntingly beautiful! RIP Gary Brooker!
We're about the same age. I was 12 yrs old in 1967. I think 1st heard this song maybe December 1967.
This is the song I need to hear tonight. God bless you.
I was there when this was recorded. 1972, I think, at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, AB. We were on the balcony, and the sound was incredible, Seats plush & comfy. A friend had just moved to England to play music. He was stunned that nothing was happening in London, and PC was recording with the ESO. I also knew some of the members of the symphony! Great night!
I bet that show was pretty epic😊 I'm guessing you saw the original who and Lynyrd Skynyrd?
My brother attended the original ESO concert in Edmonton in 1972 with Procul Harum. Best concert he attended. The Jubilee is a very nice theatre.
Recorded in 1971, album released in 1972. I was lucky enough to be there. This video is the "reunion" with the ESO in May 1992 (as the description says). I also had tickets to this show, but had to give them to my mom and uncle since work called harder.
R.I.P Gary Brooker ㅠㅠ
I was working at the Jubilee Auditorium when they performed, and got the lucky straw and was able to stand in the back and watch. The energy was electrifying. An incredible performance.
This song was great 👍👍👍 .
But wow even greater 😂😂😂❤❤❤
I Heard this fantastic jewel for the first time in 1972, I was 15
I saw them in concert where they recorded that version in 1971, I was 8.
Back again, 14 April 2024. Thanks again.
What a great performance
A song that stands the test of time. Truly magnificent. Brings back floods of memories.
The upbeat tempo of the orchestra and the horns really made a huge improvement to this song from the original slow, quiet version. The Spanish-sounding horns really blow this song away.
Excellent Brooker and Whitehorn.Good, old days of true rock music.
I love this song brings me back to the early 70's
One if not the first 45rpms I bought from our local 5 and 10 cents store. 55 years later I still can't get enough.
Thank you so much for uploading this. He sounded magnificent even as he aged older. I miss him.

WHAAAT? 😮 I did not know Gary had passed away. If it wasn't for RUclips I wouldn;t know hardly ANY news anymore because regular news always talks about the same worn-out people that the USA never looks beyond. A very great singing voice had Gary.😔
I'm 60 now and this Tune. Now a Classic still captivates me. One of my all time favorites
Ditto!
Such an epic piece! Always loved it. Just great.
Bought this album when it first came out, I think I paid $2.98 for it. Bought it at the original Kohl's store before it turned in to a national chain, would play this over and over on my Panasonic stereo as loud as I could, I'm 68 now, what an amazing album, still have it in my collection
V
A fabulous song by Procol Harum. A full orchestra! Just great! The guitar sole in the middle of that orchestration was amazing!
The best version of this
These CLASSICAL BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECES OF MUSIC Our parents thought ROCK WAS DISGUSTING in those Days but look today as MUSIC HAS TRULY DIED CHILDREN AND YOUNG KIDS OF TODAY HAVE NO NO IMAGINATION THEY LIVE THEIR WORLD ON A DUMMY BOX ( THE COMPUTER ) as these people thought up these LYRICS ALL ON THEIR OWN!! What we have lost can NEVER TRULY BE REGAINED OR REPLACED! I GREW IN A WONDERFUL TIME OF THE ARTS IT WAS TRULY THE END OF THE OLD WORLD!!
I was super lucky to be a kid when this stuff came out. So, i did the proper thing and bought the stereo of my dreams made in 1978 to play this music on.
Miss You,GB&PH very much ❤!
Absolutely breathing taking
I too was 12 when I first heard this. It's so haunting and true. Combined with musical sophisticationits a masterpiece
The Live version is so much full than the studio version, for sure... I always wanted to hear the studio version, and just did.. It is not like this.... Thank you, Procol Harum -Beyond All Things- for this beautiful music---ALL of IT !!!!
I love this. I've been a fan since the beginning. RIP Gary Brooker.
Wow! That was a wonderful experience!
Sometimes a classic is born out of an original - I grew up on this version and didn’t even know until 3 years ago there was an original without the orchestra.
The orchestra adds so much to this and turned the song into an instant classic hit. I don’t know who scored it, but they NAILED it.
Yes I agree the orchestra added a lot to the song. RIP Gary.
There was an original without the orchestra, and also an original (1971 recording/show) of this orchestral version. This was from the 1992 reunion concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. I was at the 1971 show.
Never gets old. Thanks to all. Great job. We miss you Gary.
My favorite by you guys, but of course there were many 💕💕 RIP Gary!
I was at this concert. Both nights. It was awesome! Thanks for sharing this. Amazing that you have this performance. May Gary Brooker rest in peace. Cheers! ✌️
Stay tuned! There will be more…
Me too. It was great 😊 😊. Second balcony first row near the middle.
@@libnomore1522 Me, it was first balcony, centre, for the first night. For the second night, I was on the main floor on the right side, and I still had a decent view of the stage. Great concert.
When and where was concert?
@@mikegike7273 Read the description information. It's there.
Wow! What can be said? Masterfully written and performed by one and all.
Wow the orchestra is amazing the song was perfectly performed the singer is awesome more please this a true classic this is great thanks for the post
The singer is Gary Brooker, who passed away from cancer, on February 19, at age 76. I was at this concert. It was great. Cheers! ✌️
EXCELLENT!
The band was world famous at the time, but in 1971 when they recorded this they were nervous and genuinely humbled to be playing with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra which they considered one of the most professional in the world.
I remember to this day seeing this song on Top of the Pop's and being a schoolboy being mesmerized..... Gary Brooker an the whole band were magnificent. It's funny how some songs take you back to a place and people who are no longer there.....my god I miss them all..!!!!!!
Procul Harem was one of a Handfull ( one hand) of British Musical Ensembles populated by the finest Musicians ever to require concentration of thought to participate and create literary value in actual high brow story. Their tales were not for head banging idiots. I was able to borrow the French
Pressing of the first Lp in ? 1966. When one noticed the “ WORDS KEITH REID” on each Cover and how respectfully they always acknowledged this Lyricist. It was something
they alone choose to do.
This man was a genius capable of elevating an art form of story. When Ringo Starr asked which
song was most definitive of his Bands Generation he stated instantly (A Whiter Shade of Pale) insinuating nothing the Beatles had created was comparable. Gary Brooker participant in the honoring of almost every Musician awarded or passed was so highly respected by his peers he was the unequalled Statesman until his passing. One could write so much about these fellows Mathew Fisher , Robin Trower. A Salty Dog who else could have pulled that one off. God Bless them standing and in Heaven.
cette musique écrite par GARY, fantastique !!
Would have LOVED to have been there for the original recording so many years ago. Saw P.C. about 15 years ago at Ontario place. Not the same without an orchastra, but still damn good. But, this is the next best thing to being there.
I was at the original concert in 1971 when they recorded the album version, and had tickets to this one, but let my mom and uncle go to do "work" instead.
A stellar performance.
FANTASTIC
Now that's what is called jammin'. Thanks for posting, I always wanted to see the orchestra behind the song.
I've always loved this song. RIP Gary B..
Me too, but I didn’t know what the name of it was
Never gets old
Brooker is an immortal!
Watched as a kid on PBS. So F'n powerful. Trower ripped into his solo with rage and purpose. Blew my young mind, and still does 60 years later.
It's a classic. Music has now lost bands like this
Awesome!!! There was a marching band version (or some sort of instrumental version) of this song I can't find anywhere!!
I never get tired of the Classic. We had some great music back in the late 60s and 70s. We miss you Gary.
More please! (same message basically as the audience in Edmonton on the night)
If you read the description, they have also released the "encore" where they played this song again as said at th end of the video.
Great Music !
Used to hear on the radio seems to me like our high-school football team the Conqietators🎉🎉
Thanks for posting this. A Classic song. Real music.
Wow. Beautiful.

I was there... brilliant band, fantastic musicians... these guy's like Queen ( who I also saw live many time's )knocked it out the park .It was a privilege to sit and watch and listen to these maestro's perform a complete privilege a bit like being invited into their lives and the actual recording studio... never... never will we see their likes again.... pure gods of rock n roll... thank you for your songs... I miss you more every year.
