Ringo just understands how to keep this music alive. He always connected wit the fans with the least pretension and knows how to bring all of this music back with a kind of fresh wonder, I don't know how to put it. All the baggage is somehow left behind. Ringo is a magician and a genius at this. I've never liked Frampton as much as on these tracks.
When music like this comes on I’m not actually a fat balding 58yr old man but a skinny 17 yr old kid with long flowing locks with this tune on an 8 track player smokin’ doobies..........IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!! Ha Ha! 😂
@@4747robo That guy made the comment as if this were a recent performance and his voice hadn't faded at all. At the time of this video he was in his early 50s so it isn't really that surprising that his voice had not faded. What "in God's name" did you think I was talking about?
@@alan30189 Yes, i know that. So it's not really a surprise that his voice hadn't faded since he was in his early 50s. That was the entire point of my comment.
Watching this footage just reminds me of why Gary Brooker was my absolute idol when I was a kid. Every time I saw Procol Harum in concert, I barely took my eyes off him. I loved BJ and Trower but nothing beat watching Brooker singing at the piano, he was amazing. Shine on Brightly my friend, say hello to BJ. Thanks for the music, the beautiful, beautiful music that came only from Procol Harum.
He was mine, too! I'm a classically trained piano player and Bach lover. I just adored how Gary took the baroque element and brought it right into the 20th century. What a band ! And the lyrics! Gary Brooker, Stevie Winwood, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker- I loved them all.
I was there and the hairs on my body stood at full attention. I've seen countless concerts and am always asked about my favorites - this is #1/2. East Lansing then Clarkston. Energy. Fun. the guys on stage just enjoyed themselves - I miss those days.
Jack Bruce on bass...Simon Kirke on drums...Peter Frampton playing Procol Harum lead guitar? Damn Frampton's solo on this is excellent. Still think the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra version is the most epic version but Frampton's excellent & commendable as a Procol lead guitarist. Brooker is always superb. This entire performance is blistering and Ringo Starr -- he puts together some of the finest fiery & memorable rock shows with his AllStarrBand.
What a wonderful song . Had the good fortune to see GB a couple of years ago and his voice 🙌 wow! There is a other heavenly chorister rocking up there 🙏❤
I love Simon Kirke's drumming on this version. Clean and straight forward. He hits hard! Underrated because of his simplicity, he is everything a rock drummer should be. Framton's solo is killer also. Gary Booker has one of the best voices in rock!
This is one song where playing the solo - or every other run - is coveted by guitarists... especially if they can find a 7" radius and a bow and finish the song with roars from a bowed electric.
Wow! I'd never seen this before. Gary Brooker's voice has everything. The quality of his vocal tone is absolutely astounding on this performance. My favorite song of his is "No More Fear of Flying". That's actually a blues song produced by George Martin with lots of beautifully loose, push-pull rhythm, syncopation, anticipation, and a righteous chorus. Check it out!
Simon did the smart thing and kept it simple. There was only one BJ Wilson, and you simply cannot expect another drummer to attempt the Octopus in the Bathtub" style. Mr Frampton cut loose a nice solo - and Gary Brooker is always amazing!
I wish I would have seen this particular tour with the All Star Band. When this song came out I was very much into ice skating and I used to run to the jukebox to put on this song and run back in the rink to skate to it. Rock on! This is awesome.
I have always loved the All-Starrs (of whatever lineup). But for live versions of "Conquistador," I'll present the evidence from Denmark that this one (ruclips.net/video/t-zti_qAHsA/видео.html) may be the best we have at this time.
Just cruised over to your link. Tough call regarding the Edmonton Symphony or the Denmark cut. We were fortunate enough to have The Moody Blues hit town during the "Red Rocks" tour to jam with our local symphony. Great to see local talent mixed with veteran class acts.
I liked the Denmark version also, but to my ear, the orchestra started at a tad too fast of a tempo, then Brooker and the drummer got it slowed down to a better tempo (similar to this version) like Brooker set from the start
@@45rpmSINGLES Yes, of course, Mike, but that was the much-missed Dave Ball from the Edmonton live concert: I hope that every Procol enthusiast would know that! I had a lovely day with Geoff Whitehorn a few weeks before The Commander died: Geoff is the equal of any guitarist I can think of. Best wishes, Tom 🎸
Ringo took a break apparently. Simon did OK on the drums. He missed a lot of the fills and his feel was a heavy rock feel instead of a charging staccato kind of feel during the choruses and solos.
One thing I usually notice with older bands doing their hits is that the rhythm section lacks a bit of energy. Not a problem with this well-constructed band. Drummer wasn't BJ, but still into it. Nice to see Gary move over to the B3, at the end there in the absence of Matthew Fisher. After watching this, I'd actually like to catch the Ringo band when they start touring again. But unfortunately, no Gary. The grim reaper comes for us all.
So sad to hear that Gary Brooker passed away on February 19. He was a great musican. May he rest in peace. Cheers! ✌️
It doesn't get any better then this ! Living pros !
RIP Gary Brooker! Thank you for your great legacy!

Great performance of a classic song by one of the most underrated vocalist/composers ever!
Gary Brookers voice seems to have not faded one bit , awesome
This was 20 years ago though...
Ryan K and it was this performance that was being referenced to with regard to Brookers voice. What in God’s name did you think he was talking about?

Gary Brooker is a legend. Just found out two days ago he died. RocknRoll Heaven just gained another great performer.
I was fortunate to see the first Ringo All star band,in 1989, wish I had seen this lineup too! They nailed this song,Gary Brooker , just WoW!
Rest in peace Gary Brooker 🙏 💔 😢

I agree about Peter on this song - he's so underrated and so versatile. He completely understood this song.
The Ringo All Stars, seen this lineup many years back, they were Awsome in Milwaukee Wi.!!.@SUMMERFEST........🍁
Frampton must of been delighted to take Trowers spot! What a line up! Jeebus!
This is great! Brooker is one of the greatest singers there is! With Frampton scorching on the guitar this version is one of the best!
Absolutely the BEST of rock !! To have been there would have something to remember forever in LIFE !!!!!

He still has one of the best voices in rock
They pulled this off! What a great version of a phenomenal song! So much talent on that stage.
If the walls at Pine Knob in Clarkston, Michigan could talk, oh the stories we'd hear!
One of my favorite Rock songs!
I come back to watch this often. That’s a lot of talent on that stage!

Frampton!
Jack Bruce on Baas starting at 2:40, as if a background thought!
Wow!
Frampton did a great job as usual !
Procol Harum's first album was their best.
Holy Friggin Geezuss...
Frampton simply scorches the solo...
I really hope they do something similar to Concert for George for Gary. Call it Concert for Gary.
Damn that was good! Frampton gots the hottest licks
Luv it.
That IS Frampton and Bruce? I was wondering If my eyes were deceiving me. Ringo always got / (gets) great talent on all stars
RIP Gary

For clarity, precision, energy, bombast, subtlety, attack and resolve, nothing beats Edmonton ‘71.
NOTHING.

Where's Ringo Starr?
anyone else notice he didn't give kudos to the loud guitar player
False advertising! Where, pray tell, is Ringo?
