    Lyrics
Conquistador your stallion stands in need of company
And like some angel's haloed brow
    You reek of purity
I see your armour-plated breast has long since lost its sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador a vulture sits upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
    The sand has taken seed
And though your jewel-encrusted blade has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
    And taken of its fill
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
    Conquistador there is no time
    I must pay my respect
And though I came to jeer at you
    I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no aureole
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

Listening to this song now in 2024, 50yrs later brings me back to my youth. My husband decided to play this song 🎵 last night and brought tears to his eyes 👀 because it's been so long since we've heard it. PROCOL HARUM GOES BACK A LONG WAYS AND THEY ARE INCREDIBLY TALENTED. Who's listening 🎶 👀 now in June of 2024? I'm 66yrs old now and grew up during the best times for ROCK N ' ROLL!

I turn the magic number of '80' in a few days, and the music of this era still drives my soul. I would love to return to the 70's and the freedom it brought to us who survived this great period of time. This was a pillar song, with the added orchestration for Procol Harum on their way out the back door, but the beginning of guitarist Robin Trower. If only I could get my fingers to work these days, I would still be playing this little tune. 🎸🎸🎸

I am so happy for you that you can play this on piano. I'm just learning piano-keyboards at 72 (Casio CTK6250 and CTX5000) and I have enough music background from band during grades 7-12 to still read music, slowly. I'll be looking for the beginner or intermediate sheet music of this. I have been picking out Whiter Shade of Pale, trying to find which tone, or split tones, sound best to me.

He founded the city I was born, Guayaquil con the Pacific Coast, climbed up the Andes to the high lands of Quito and went on on the Southamerican jungle, discovered the Amazon river, went all the way to the Atlantic, crossed it all the way to Spain. Returned to America and found death on the Brazilian amazon jungle. He did no conquer, only died. What a man!

This was absolutely thrilling when I first heard it on the radio -- sent chills down my spine. The late drummer BJ Wilson was magnificent & then the supercharged lead guitar solo by the late Dave Ball -- damn.
The orchestra only having rehearsed this once with the band & seldom did rock music were superb. But then, they're all professionals. And that's what you get when you have that level of talent.
Radio was so great in the early 70s.

My brother and I had driven down to Tijuana Thursday night and went to
every single bar in the city drinking at least one beer in each one.
We raced back up to Thousand Oaks and got home shortly after sunrise.
