Hey Tim - great review, thanks for taking the time to do it! I'm trying to figure a way to add an easy aquaponics basket to grow some plants in. Wondering if there is a way to adjust the height of the water in the box based on the air pump being on or off; ie. Heigher water line is on, lower if off. This is because an aquaponics system appreciates a wet/dry zone or a flood zone where water floods intermittently- I'm thinking of running the air pump intermittently(scheduled using a smart switch) to enable this wet/dry zone. Thanks for your feedback!
I can't think of a good way to use this for a aquaponics system as there is no way to really adjust the water level so you would have to depend on evaporation. If I was trying to do a aquaponics setup I would use an overhead sump setup with a powerhead and timer. I talk a little bit about doing a setup like that in this video ruclips.net/video/XqHyQ4mNRgI/видео.html and you can get an idea of what you would want to look for in a powerhead.
Nice vid, thanks But (isn't there always a but) halfway the clip I realised, this set is very easy to turn into a Bio Filter and not unimportant realy cheap to realise I'm realy confident about the setup in all it's simplicity
Your absolutely right! I've never run one as a biofilter myself but I have seen it done before. I think these breeder boxes are extremely flexible for a lot of different purposes.
@@IansFishRoom Well there is much to say about the stabilty of the filter and the freedom of choice in used media (I like the different types of Siporax) and you are not depended on cartridges.. Not in the last plast to mention the prices of external filterpumps
I've never had any issues with light exposure with these so I would say they are good but if you are concerned about it check out my finnex breeder box video which is very similar and you can purchase with a light specifically for the breeder box.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe! I ordered it off Amazon. You may have to search for the "marina hang on breeding box" as it was recently rebranded as fluval.
Fantastic review thanks so much!the part with the plecos at the end is exactly why I got mine today 8-31-21 my super red bn plecos and also my lemon blue eye plecos🙂👍🏻 I’m going to get another one as my dragonblood colony are all holding including the male… yes the male is holding too I have a vid of it on my channel in case you’d like to see it. I also subbed today as well #457 excellant content!
Fluval is definitely having difficulty keeping things in stock lately. I did a review on the medium size breeder box as well you might want to check out.
@@IansFishRoom Yes I did but the smaller version as the larger version is out of stock everywhere in UK. I will be getting it when it comes back into stock. I will be using it for CPD fry. When not in use I will put a pothos plant in there and grow out moss. I will keep a few shrimp in there to keep clean. I want infusoria to grow and be ready for more fry. Obviously I will remove shrimp which will be a few low grade males only.
You can check out the medium breeder box here! ruclips.net/video/kxFhvGpIMr0/видео.html
Your video was more helpful than others I have seen thanks.
+Kevin Wright glad you found it helpful!
Great video much appreciated 👍
Glad you found it helpful!
Really like the larger size as well. Thanks so much for sharing these. ❤️
If you only buy one I think the larger one is the way to go.

How’s the light exposure for the fry to grow healthy?

If you use the dividers, will the fry be able to go through the holes to get away?
Depends what fish you are breeding. If you are breeding guppies yes, but it would still be best to remove the female as soon as possible.
Great video! May I ask where you managed to buy one of these, please?

@@IansFishRoom Thanks, I will do that.
I couldn't find the large one in stock. So I have a Med. on the way.

Great in depth review. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! Did you get one of these for yourself!
@@IansFishRoom I plan on it!
