Great video. We’ve use foam boxes to breed bettas for over 20 years and if I may, I’d like to mention that water will eventually soak through the foam. We use non-toxic paint to layer the inside to help retain water. Good luck everyone!

I LOVE these "how to breed" videos so much. You really make these tutorials actually simple (who would've said on a channel named like this) compared to other breeders who overcomplicate things or make them less easy to understand sometimes. Please don't ever stop doing these. Unless you of course run out of fish haha. Next time I'd like to see some more tricky egg scatterers, barbs or rasboras for example. I'm exactly that type of guy you mentioned - I always only ever bred livebearers and only now thanks to you I'm trying to get into egg laying fish!

Hi. Could you talk a bit more about the process of breeding the Danios? For instance, the KFS guy says that if you put them in a tank together when the females are plump, then the next day "at daylight" they will begin spawning. Yet it looks like he is using artificial lighting, and on top of that he places a lid over the foam box to keep them from jumping out. I don't recall him saying anything about using light timers if he is using artificial lights, or whether fluorescents or LEDSs are better. Do you feel the fish need to see natural sunlight to breed? Also, I never really hear the issue of inbreeding within any of the fish breeding videos, but can't help but think it would be very difficult to prevent. As fish buyers should we just assume that that type of thing is more or less going to occur within the hobby?
I'd really like to hear your input on this if you have the time.

You may want to try breeding them when the males are one type and the females the other.
Do this in two separate containers when in each of the containers, the opposite species of the different types.
Some genes are passed only by males, and others are passed only by females.
When you do this experiment, you are likely to come out with 2 different types of fish with different traits.

Fyi, when you do a full mix of longfin and gold, your going to get some fry that are going to be gold x gold and longfin x longfin. So when you look at these results keep in mind you will have an unknown percentage of normal gold and longfin fish. Next time, for a true mix I would put males of all one type with females of all one type. So all female gold with all male longfin. Great video, I had a good time!

Awesome, it looks & sounds pretty simple
but I still have a thing for goldfish & guppies
I had 2 years with both & it keeps me busy.
I got out of the guppies but I kept the goldfish
& from the looks of them, THEY'VE GROWN !!
    I can't afford a bigger pond next year OH-NO 😱
No their good, their in a 110 gal Stock Tank
with a 1400gph pump with a diy matten filter
just got done doing it today, that took 3 days.
1 was to make the matten filter for the tank
2 was to empty the tank the goldfish were in
cause I needed the spot where they were at.
3 was to set up 2nd stock tank that has the
matten filter built ON TO the stock tank walls
Silicone with the heater in with the pump that's
behind the matten filter & have the flow pointed
to 1 side for a circular turbulence to keep things
moving, I don't have a video of it but I can
try & get 1 done of what it looks like & it's doing.

Can confirm this will work for giant danio as well. Been trying to breed mine for months with no success. First try with this method and my six giant danio produced about 100 eggs and they are all fertilized.
