Do the fish gobble up their babies the moment they are born , Or do they have a good chance of making it to the bottom of the tank ? the reason i am asking this is i want to make a catch that is a Aquarium Decoration and not an eye sore to look at... a BREEDER TANK that doesnt look like a BREEDER TANK... but a decorated cool looking tank that can still capture a good amount of fry.
This is great! How did you know in advance if the hot glue brand you used would be aquarium safe? I'm wondering if certain brands wouldn't be safe to use in an aquarium.
To be honest I don't know, I just read that hot glue was aquarium safe after curing but I didn't consider different brands might contain different chemicals or additives! Let me know if you find out!
I am having an issue with egg fungus i leave the eggs in the breeder box for a couple of weeks. I don't want to use methylene blue as I leave the fry in the box for a couple of weeks. I guess I will have to transfer the eggs to another container and try treatment.
Yeah that's what I would do..I wonder if you have a build up of waste that is contributing to the fungus? Methylene blue in a separate container would probably be your best friend
I’ll be interested to see if you can crack the detritus and other junk accumulating at the bottom of the catchment container. I always had debris accumulating that would then foul the eggs. I also would be interested to see how well this works in a planted community tank. I didn’t have much luck because they went and spawned elsewhere and not in my container. Definitely made it easier with the mesh, hot glue, and proper tubing diameter 😂. I was too cheap to go out and buy any materials so I made it all out of materials that were free to me. Took a lot more time but I got to buy more fish with my limited $25 budget for my aquariums. I think my record is 120 eggs a day with 10 adult breeders in a 5 gallon. I’ll be interested to here yours. Is your tank a 10 gallon?
Holy cow, your videos are what inspired me to make this version of it! I love your channel, I'm a subscriber. Yes, I haven't figured out how to keep the catchment container clean yet, I find that blasting the lower portion with a turkey baster and then doing a large water change the night before helps, then I just hold off on feeding until I collect the eggs. But other than that I do have problems with waste building up in the catchment container. I'm not sure if there's a way around that! Maybe? I've never used it in a community tank but that would be interesting to see if it would work! Currently I've got my fish in a 10 gallon but I actually just started a separate 5 gallon to target breed my nicest fish! I haven't gotten 100 plus eggs yet out of this thing but I have gotten over 100 eggs in a day with my other egg catching container! Seriously, thank you so much for your videos, I thought your idea was really smart and it has been working really well for me
I always add a snail, (either ramshorn or sml mystery) to the "egg" container- they help clean up some detritus and also snail poop offers newborns extra micro/ infusoria type food.. the snails also clean the surface of the container a bit
@@sydneysangels I’m glad to see someone else tweaking it and helping people breed their fish. I am very interested in other fish species that would spawn in it. That’s exactly what I would do. Use a turkey baster at night to clear out all the junk before morning. I’d then feed collect the eggs in the afternoon, feed them and then bast them again. Ideally I’d find something that funnels all the eggs directly to the bottom of the catchment area to the opening and up into the breeder box. Rather than letting them get scattered around the entire bottom. It currently doesn’t have a large enough suction to pull the eggs. My original idea with a small funnel but couldn’t find one that fit in a 5 gallon tank so I went with this design
@@desfishgeek8119 the problem isn’t where the eggs end up in the breeder box it’s in the actual spawning area. I’ve had snails get in there before and clog the entire thing so I prevent snails from getting in there.
@@TheAquariumLibrary oh yeah the funnel would work even better you're right. I actually have a small yellow funnel that came with a DIY CO2 kit I bought a while ago.. I wonder if that would work? I have noticed some of the eggs never roll down the green corners of the lower container and they end up fungusing and trapping over eggs in there too
Will silicone work to close the gaps in the green box? I don’t want to use hot glue, since I heard it won’t work good under water. What about super glue?
Yes I'm pretty confident silicone will work! So far I haven't had any issues with the hot glue, and I was pretty hesitant as well. I would not recommend super glue, it seems to have a pretty hard time bonding plastics together. However it works wonders for anchoring hardscape together or gluing java fern to wood and rocks. I hope that helps!
Very neat. I'm curious, since the java moss and guppy grass were already in the tank with the danios were they already laying eggs in it? If so, would the eggs and or fry be eaten if they weren't separated? If not, what causes them to lay eggs in it once it's in the collection box?
Thanks! Yes, they lay eggs almost every single day. This species is extremely fry aggressive so if they find the eggs or fry they will eat them. Since CPDs prefer laying their eggs near plants, they will always choose the plant as a spawning site in your tank!
I really like the black sand/gravel in the two aquariums on either side of your Celestial Pearl Danio aquarium. Where did you get it? Great job on your video!

I wouldn't use hot glue, because water just undoes hotglue and makes it pop off. I would have used a small tube of silicone. But do you think this would work for neon tetras?
Thanks for the tip! A lot of people actually recommended hot glue on one of my videos so I gave it a shot! I guess time will tell if it works or not. Yes I do think it would work, as long as the tetras chose to lay eggs above it. I'm not sure if they have the same preference of spawning in plant matter or not
I ordered the tubing through the link you provided but the diameter is too small to go over the other plastic tube. I fit it on the inside of the tube, would that work instead of the tubing going over it?
Very cool idea. I don't think I would ever bother with it, I simply just use a tissue culture cup with moss and collect the eggs every 2nd day. In other words, I'm too cheap to buy breeder boxes 😂
I have a 30 gal tall tank that would work in that has my leaped & zebra DANIOS in I've never noticed them dropping eggs wondering if they would if I would have that in the tank ? that's pretty cool.
@@sydneysangels Looks like I'm going to have to separate them cause the Zebras has just about wiped out the Leopards which sucks, so that means they don't get along in the same tank. Thank you 👍
greaat idea
Nicely done! I am a bit curious as to why you traced all 4 sides for cutting out the mesh? You had 2 sides already cut with a straight line on the mesh. 😊
Lmao probably because I'm a dingus.... Hahaha
Oh 😅 Well thanks for clearing that out for me, i was struggeling so hard to think of a possible reason for that method, you gave my mind peace now haha. @@sydneysangels

Super pomysł 🙂
Thank you!
Cool contraption, subscribed bro 👍🏻
Thank you! I appreciate the support I hope you enjoy the vids! 😊
Superb
Thank you!
Will this work with cherry barbs? I read that they like attaching their eggs to surfaces. Or is that false?
This is great! How did you know in advance if the hot glue brand you used would be aquarium safe? I'm wondering if certain brands wouldn't be safe to use in an aquarium.
To be honest I don't know, I just read that hot glue was aquarium safe after curing but I didn't consider different brands might contain different chemicals or additives! Let me know if you find out!
Nice!
Thank you!
I have noticed some of the eggs never roll down the green corners of the lower container and they end up fungusing and trapping over eggs in there too
congratulation! it is very good! I am looking for any breeding box for tetras neon. May be, do you have a good idea? thanks
Thanks! Maybe try a large Tupperware container with a mesh top? That way you can cover a large surface area and collect more eggs in theory?
Cool vid!
Thank you!
Cool idea! I wonder how long until someone commercializes the design 😊. +1 subscriber here!!
Thank you so much! Definitely not an original idea but I made some tweaks to it! Thanks for the sub I hope you enjoy the content ☺️
I will be borrowing your idea 😊
Please do! I got it from a couple other RUclipsrs so its not even my idea! :)
Wondering if this idea would work for scarlet badis with some anubias on wood or rock instead of moss… 🤔
It might! As long as the eggs are small enough and non-adhesive!
Very nice video
Thank you I really appreciate that! ☺️
Do you think a setup like this could be used for livebearers?
Absolutely, the mesh holes might have to be a tad bigger but I know there are similar systems out there for guppy fry
Any concerns about the eggs being sucked out into the trap before they can be fertilized?
I haven't really experienced this but I suppose it is possible!
@@sydneysangels Awesome, thanks for the reply!
@@ender003 no problem!

Rip
@@ryanweitnauer7886 rip? What do you mean?
Have you used this with any other fish
Very cool idea. I don't think I would ever bother with it, I simply just use a tissue culture cup with moss and collect the eggs every 2nd day. In other words, I'm too cheap to buy breeder boxes 😂
Lol thank you! Yeah I still use that old method and it's just as effective as this one. At the end of the day it's just preference I guess!
I have a 30 gal tall tank that would work in that has my leaped & zebra DANIOS in
I've never noticed them dropping eggs wondering if they would if I would have that
in the tank ? that's pretty cool.
Thanks! I would say go for it. Maybe they drop eggs and you just see them because they're so small? I don't know but it's worth a shot!

@@raisinggoldfishonabudget7058 let me know how it goes! No problem 🙂
@@sydneysangels Looks like I'm going to have to separate them
cause the Zebras has just about wiped out the Leopards which
sucks, so that means they don't get along in the same tank.
I have 3 mollies in the 75 gal, wonder if I can put them in that
tank & see if they will get along with each other? do you know ?
@@raisinggoldfishonabudget7058 to be honest I don't know for sure, but I don't know mollies to be very aggressive so I think you'll be fine! I guess the only way to really know is to try
do you put alder cones in the egg compartment to guarantee from too much fungussing?
No I haven't tried that yet but thank you for the excellent suggestion! I've just been doing large water changes to keep it clean
Amazing video bro☺️.
What's the ph fir the breeders?
Thank you! I've bred them in a pH of 6.8 and also in a pH of 8.2. They don't seem to be all that picky when it comes to pH in my experience!
Why seal the slots for water change? This will cause a standstill because aquarium water is sucked in through these slots.
Water is sucked through the top. Sealing the slots will make the egg trap more efficient and there's less chance of losing eggs.
Excellent Video! Going to try this system out. BTW, what type/brand label maker do you use for labeling your Tanks. My old one stopped working.
