I find most DIY or Hot Rod product methods a waste of time and done more for the entertainment of the keeper. This idea I really like, I will be trying it.
If you got a canister filter i got an even better hack for you. I found out that you can shove some airline tubing into the outlet of a canister filter to divert some water though the airline. Then attached the other end to the inlet of the breeder box. That way you get a nice even flow of water, without using air at all. So, now my breeder box is completely silent.
This is the perfect hack for me right now! It just so happens that I have that breeder box and an extra easy flow lift tube! Recently a group of Habrosus Cory fry hatched (it was the adults very 1st spawn 👏) and to keep the water parameters stable I purchased the fluval medium breeder box. The sound is a bit annoying as the tanks in my bedroom 😂 I have learned to deal with it for the precious little babies, but I am giving it his hack a try FOR SURE. Thank you!! 🙏
@Aquarium Co-op did something similar but used a garden hose washer. The inner diameter of the washer fits around the fluval tube and the outside diameter washer fits inside the easy flow connecter and uplift tube. You dont need to cut the curve tube with this method.
love it! going to raise up some baby bettas soon and was thinking about the fry keepers for moments i need to start separating if I didn't have enough tank dividers. going with a matten filter right down the middle to start, and while I don't necessarily need the extra filtration I do need steady flow and it never hurts to have a precycled little filter hanging around for a new project.
omg Cory if you made an external breeder box can you make it so the tank lid will still close (or at least mostly close)??? pretty please with a cheery on top!
That would be a very useful breeder to have if you had it set up like Dean has shown us, I use the nylon mesh breeder box for the momma fish and then transfer her over to her own tank until she pops, then I put her back into the breeder cage for a week or so till I know she good, after that she goes back in the display tank and the fry have their own tank to grow out in👍👍👍same concept, different method 👍👍👍
I 3d printed a little adapter piece that hooks to the bottom and holds an air stone to accomplish the same goal. Less noise and a lot more water flow. Great minds think alike!
What if Cory would deaign a similar box, but made out of the material that the catch cups are made out of? They seem a lot tougher material than whatever Fluval makes the breeder boxea out of.
I don't breed fish, don't buy live bearers so I can avoid breeding, but somehow I want this setup BADLY! I could see this being a great healing tank, temporary holding, and of course that unexpected batch of fry you never asked for. At the risk of inflated ego, simply brilliant!
Regards to eliminating the 'glugy' noise effect with matten filters. Just tilt the airlift slightly so that the outflow is tipped up just a touch. That prevents air from becoming trapped.
Awesome new invention, more of these vids please 😎👍 use air pump to pump water into the next side tank, where a small hole between the 2 tanks allow it to flow back with oxygen to the first tank, save power $
Cory have you ever thought of using a fulfilment company to do your warehousing and shipping in Europe? I know of a good one. They will handle warehousing, they could even do assembly, order fulfilment and shipping to your customers. We need your products in Europe, please.
@slamboy66 I know right?!? We need a store here. I order from Aquarium Co-Op but I’m inpatient and it NEVER fails when my package arrives Im like oh crap I forgot to order the airstones (for example). With as many hobbyists there are in this area, would be nice to have more quality aquarium stores 🥺
Dean has soft water. My well water is very hard. If I don't stay active in cleaning it becomes a problem. Controlling where splashes happen from filters and air stones is half the battle. Keeping lids on to help prevent evaporation and water from getting up onto the rims helps as well. I use the algae scrubbers on tanks every few months to keep it from getting super crusty and hard to clean.
I would sell Betta for 7/each ( luxury fish ) Guppy pair $7 All fish store gonna hate me I ain’t making profit But I want all people in USA feel what life is Working hard for a pair guppy $25 (x5) Good or benefit?
🛒 Get the Aquarium Co-Op sponge filter with Easy Flow kit at www.aquariumcoop.com/products/aquarium-co-op-coarse-sponge-filter
This would work well for adding pothos to the back of a tank especially if you have fish that like to dig up plants.
Can't wait for the next video in the DEAN-I-Y series! :)
We need a shirt saying DEAN-I-Y now. Cool tips.
So cool ❤

Love it, Always enjoy Dean's videos and DIY ideas.

Awesome idea! I would love to see a video on deans fish room tools! If aquarium co of made a tool kit it would be so cool :)

That's what I was thinking! The same material as the hang on catch cups!
Very nice, Dean. An absolute wealth of knowledge!

Cool breeder air pump rig... Sheer Dean-IY Genius!
I just used an air line from a HOB filter as a siphon.
Small flow and works great.
Great vid!! Love learning new ways of setting something up. You guys are the best.
My one question is what light do you use for the tanks in the tanks on the racks?
When are you guys gonna ship to Canada, love your products don't make me take a flight lol.
How do you control your humidity in the fish room? Like the breeder box thingy.
Regards to eliminating the 'glugy' noise effect with matten filters. Just tilt the airlift slightly so that the outflow is tipped up just a touch. That prevents air from becoming trapped.
I am here, Dean! 😁
Hey!!!😂
This I just what I was looking for!

We need more of theseeeeee
Are these available in Australia?
How long can you keep fry in a breeder box? Can you grow them a bit in the box and then transfer to the tank?
It depends on the fry and the quantity, but yes, you can grow them out for awhile in the box before transferring to a larger tank. ~ Zenzo
I’ve been waiting for this ❤
When are you going to have a warehouse here in Europe?😢
Cool. Looks like it will work great.
So…. How many swordtail fry can you put in one for a month until they’re big enough to go in the 40 breeder?
Right on right on right on !
I love this.
Great idea , I hope you sell a product like this
DEAN-I-Y !!!!!!!!!!
I put a sponge on end of the breeder box intake anyhow so this is even better
Great video!!!
I miss the hour long video’s with u 2
How cool!! Thanks for sharing
❤
Smart idea now I if mind for that thanks
That is a great hack!
You need to ship to UK.
No stores in Vegas

I've done this with the Chinese double filter
Coop Breeder box when?
Lovely
My main Man….Dean!
Do you get all your products from China 🤷🏼♂️✌️🇨🇦🙏
Cory going ump ump ump lol
i see a great basis for an air powered HOB filter just like this, but bigger.... just saying!
I wish Cory would stop "hiding".... Miss YOUR face ❤
Can you guys do a #dean for the videos so we know all the ones to watch with him??
SOLD
The breeder box is not good. My baby angelfish went into the tank and was eaten. 😢
Alright, alright, alright!
I am genuinely curious why people say this on Dean videos ??? I feel like I have watched all of them.
instead of the box holding baby fry i want to try to turn it into a filter and plant holder for my plants.
We in rnd live yall lol
My ONE single question for you all is HOW do you maintain these tanks and equipment so there is no hard water deposits everywhere over time?? 🙏🙏
Keeping the water topped off consistently helps a lot
They have very soft water in Washington...
they have super soft water to start with.
Not having hard water, that’s how
