Jake Glaser Accepts the Partners in Activism Award

Jake contracted HIV in utero from his mother, Elizabeth Glaser. Although his mother and sister unfortunately passed away several years later, thanks to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and cutting-edge research, Jake is now a healthy man well in his twenties. We honor his activism and the spirit of his mother with the Partners in Activism Award at the 2013 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards.

A touching an eloquent acceptance speech! I wish that his mom and sister would've survived along with him. That had to be excruciatingly painful for him and Paul. Other than the fact the presenter had a few too many tequilas as he spoke, what he said about Jake is incredible. Jake looks SO MUCH like his dad, bringing up memories of When Elizabeth was given a blood transfusion during labor/delivery of their beautiful daughter Ariel, very little was known about HIV and AIDS. I can't imagine the shock they went through when they finally learned what was wrong when Ariel became sick with a "virus". Unfortunately, it wasn't known until Elizabeth was pregnant with Jake-who looks so much like his dad, who along with his partner David Soul on "Starsky & Hutch did so many things to my own raging hormones when I was a teenager. Miraculously the virus was never passed on to Paul, and when Jake became ill, believed to be due to HIV, he took the meds to fight it, even with the horrible side effects from the med, It was a wise decision because he has thrived since then. As a blood donor myself, I needed a transfusion 4 years ago, and because HIV is tested for from every donation, I have never been concerned about that possibility. I can't understand why this family has suffered so much all because Elizabeth had hemorrhaged during childbirth.
