However that game's pacing and direction completely destroyed the story and the "message" (if you can even call it that) that Druckman was trying to tell, the game deserves every bit of criticism in that regard.

Sadly everything falls short beyond that. I love how the best thing about this game is how everyone can just get together and shit on this hack. Seriously, Drunkmann makes David Cage look humble in comparison. I also regret not being able to make my own edit of the punching template. I wanted to make a Dragon Quest 7 one since it's got a move called Knuckle Sandwich and the joke just works too well.

I find myself just ignoring the story completely and itching to get back to the gameplay because it's just so fun. And if a game happens to do that to me then it failed to immerse me.

Everything was pointless. No, don't even say like that's a positive thing because it only makes it worse and you proved my point further. That being said Tlou2 is a solid game for its mechanics, details, and gameplay. But as a story it failed to immerse me. Please reconsider that "95%" of the playerbase magically loves the game now because there's still a lot of people that hated it.

When Infogrames tried to bribe gaming blogs into giving positive reviews of Driver 3? If history tells me anything, it's not "the journos" that are the problem. Editors are extremely beholden to publishers. I've noticed a lot of the time, even when review scores are that high, the actual text isn't as glowing - I know it happened with Death Stranding and Cyberpunk 2077, at least. Scores are just fluff for Metacritic manipulation. This happens in Japan, too. Famitsu is the only gaming magazine left there, and reviewers have to send their reviews to a game's publishers before it goes to print or they'll get canned! It's a fucking corrupt monopoly.

Sadly everything falls short beyond that. I like the game because it is beautiful to look at - and you have to thank the incredible artists and programmers that allowed that, not Druckmann - and in some ways it challenges our routines and conventions but it's so poorly executed that it just doesn't make any sense it exists and they allowed such super productions to do stuff like that. And now he's reaped all the glory he wanted, shit on the people that objectively challenged his ideas and got his co-pres deal. Dude scammed his audience and his publisher and got away with it.

I find myself just ignoring the story completely and itching to get back to the gameplay because it's just so fun. And if a game happens to do that to me then it failed to immerse me.

If history tells me anything, it's not "the journos" that are the problem. Editors are extremely beholden to publishers. I've noticed a lot of the time, even when review scores are that high, the actual text isn't as glowing - I know it happened with Death Stranding and Cyberpunk 2077, at least. Scores are just fluff for Metacritic manipulation.
This happens in Japan, too. Famitsu is the only gaming magazine left there, and reviewers have to send their reviews to a game's publishers before it goes to print or they'll get canned! It's a fucking corrupt monopoly.
