Another advantage of the zaku 2.0 is that the Char version is so ultra popular that you can generally find them for sale pretty much everywhere online, and at good prices too.
Minor note: the Zaku Bazooka in this kit is the older, front loaded variant that, in-universe, was only around for the first batch of MS-06A Zaku II Early Types, and was later phased out by the magazine-fed version. This front-loaded bazooka wasn't meant to be held over the shoulders like most designs, but tucked under the arm whilst being held(like carrying a long rifle).
And it can achieve the superhero landing pose. Amazingly detailed inner frame. Moving pistons. Honestly, Mecha's laziness brings bad reps to some kits.
It's about 10 years ago, I once built and owned almost the entire line of MG Zakus out there. 06 J, 06F, 06S (Char's), 06R (White Wolf), 06R1A(Black Trinity), 06R2 (Johnny Ridden) and, finally 06K.
In addition to the eye moving, when you get the eye where you want it, you can then kinda pop the head up a little, and turn the head without the eye moving. So for some more dynamic poses, you can have his head pointed left, but the eye still facing forward (i.e. to the head's right)
I love this kit. I have a ton of variations of them (Char's, Shin Matsunaga's, Psycho Zaku, Zaku Cannon, and the F type). I agree, you can never own too many (same with GMs). If you don't have Shin Matsunaga's, I would recommend that one. Oh, I am going to be building my Zaku F soon. Got my God Hand in the mail with one. Can't wait!
having the unicorn , sinanju and sazabi i've been eyeballing the RX-78, zaku 2 and RX-93, they really should bring out a nice MG zaku 2 origin (and ideally a char version)
I got a Johnny Ridden MG MS-06s Zaku II limited edition. Really was just Char's Zaku II 2.0 kit with certain runners molded in different colors and a special set of decals (Seriously it had the char figure and chars kit instuctions). I had a high mobility zaku johnny ridden custom that was my very first Gunpla kit. So I put the first kits shoulder shield in the s version and I love it even more when i pose w/ 2 heat hawks. Being an old old school mecha fan i was stoked when bandai started making these greatly in proved kits.

This Zaku felt like a Real Grade for some instance (given the MG first came before Rg). A lot of it in common (except the bead parts) and yes this a nice kit :D I love to build this kit!
Zaku 2.0 kits are my all-time favorite gunpla kits, to the point I have no compunctions about buying more - wish I could have justified even getting the p-bandai ones. The Minelayer is cool, Char's is highly recommended (awesome diorama piece comes with), and the high mobility ones have some shelf presence (the black tri-stars, shin matsunaga, etc).
I'm building the Dozle Zabi version of this and it is looking great. The base kit uses most of this 2.0 zaku with a different shade of green and a large heat hawk the gold decals for that royal guard look like in Thurderbolt.
Built my first zaku 2 recently and it’s honestly my favorite build. Actually feels like a heavy duty figurine and not a model. SO GREAT!! Love the weight
One of the Zeon mobile suit kits that has a moving mono eye is the first Sinanju SD that was released last 2011. It's the same Sinanju SD that came with SD Neo Zeong. I miss when Zeon kits have moving eyes without popping anything off
My brother has one of these and loves it to death. The Zaku II has always been his number one favorite Mobile Suit of all time, the lore behind it has a lot of realism to it, and the kit is just genuinely awesome. Literally the only reason I bought an MG RX-78-2 Ver.3.0 was so that I'd have a comparable Gundam from the Universal Century era, as my old MG Ver.1.5 RX-78-2 just doesn't compare.
Just built this figure a few days ago, and never realised the bazooka actually has 2 different tabs on the handle. One for holding with a straight grip, and one for holding with an angled grip. Also, the rocket "garters" can actually clip into the leg armour, though not that well. There's a slot on either side of each leg that it attaches to.
And people wonders why Bandai released so much obscure ace pilots' recolors There's people which has tens of kits on their collection and all being MG Zaku variants
This was one of my first gunplas I got when I was in middle school. I still have and it was built really badly, but it still has a special place in my heart. I'd like to get another Zaku MG now that I have much more experience.
I just finished building mine with panel lining and all. Looks amazing and I love everything about it EXCEPT for the hands. As you stated in your video the hands really suck when trying to hold the weapons while you position the Zaku. Other than I am in love with all else. A must have kit if you are a fan!
The Zaku II 2.0 leaps and bounds over the older Zaku II with only 11 years separating the two. Mecha Gaikostus don't know if you ever built the old 95 MG Zaku II's but it's almost like going from the model T to a new sports car. I finally got back into gunpla with a Zaku II 2.0 and finishing painting the MS-06S 2.0 (not in Char's colors) to replace my old beaten up MS-06S from 95 (poor kit has been through a lot since it was built back in 96).
If I were to customize mine, I would give it a jin-roh/helghast color scheme. Some parts matte black (soul of chogokin-esque) while other parts a very dark gray. Then add few metallic bolts, then were good.

Love you review it. Remember, Zaku 2.0 is the beginning of 2.0 era. Big improvement on this Zaku 2.0 kit, comparing to the oldest Zaku 1.0. The classic version dont have any abs cruch at all, can't hold the weapon properly at all, big improvement on skirting, legs. Basically everything. Same goes to Gellgoog😀
The reason why you dont need masking tape for that particular piece is it is huge. How can you do that with tiny small piece? Also I think use carving knife is much better than scissor. I do really like your video though. Thank you for making them for us.
I have an MG Char's Zaku II 2.0. It's the same as that, but with a few extra foot thrusters, a different backpack, and, of course, it's red. And I gotta say, when you turned the head around all the way, a part of me died with it. (REALLY don't do that, but if you plan to just yank the head up a little so the eye flipping mechanism detaches)
I have the red and black Johnny Ridden version and I have to say, it was a really fun build EXCEPT the tubes were a pain in the ass IMO. The links just did not want to come off the runner for me, and using pliers left very evident scratches on the black links. I guess I need to get a pair of soft rubber tipped pliers. Otherwise, I love it. I did find it a pain to get it to hold the bazooka or mega bazooka as well.
mechagaikotsu: the review of the psycho zaku will be coming out sometime in the couple of months 2022: it's still in the same pose and we still haven't gotten the review yet
I remember this being second master grade kit, gundam origin version was my first the only problem I had with the kit was the pipes for the legs and had some problem holding the weapons a little bit.
I've recently built an old school 1.0 Zaku (the F2 version) and it's a bit sad to see that the weapon attachments, particularly the leg missiles and the bazooka, are better on the old kit. Other than that, this one is better in every single detail.
