I actually was pretty excited for this 1.5 since I really do like the OG MG Dom. For sure the articulation isn't that great but hey, it's a Dom, however the fact they still haven't really fixed the issue with the shoulders alongside the fact that they didn't think of including at least a base adapter for it does kinda suck. Plus, it really does feel like it took up a slot for another MG. All in all, I don't particularly hate this kit, as I can appreciate the fact that even as old as the Dom is I do still think it has a place and this little upgrade set is a good choice, but I honestly wish we still could have gotten some more out of it.
It’ll look great with the Zaku II 2.0, the Gouf 2.0 and the Gelgoog 2.0. And I’d rather have this than an $85+ Dom 2.0 kit. The 1999 Dom was well ahead of its time, and I feel like this shores it up with the mid 2000s lineup of kits. I do wish the machine gun and Raketen Bazooka got a newer cleaner mold though. I think that’s my main complaint. Here’s hoping Bandai takes this approach to some of the other older kits to keep the price more approachable, would love an updated Rick Dias, or a Zaku I derived from the Zaku II 2.0 frame.
It works for me tho. I've been wanting the 1999 Dom for a while, and these upgrades are worth it to me since I don't already own one. However, I can understand it being useless to someone who already owns the 1999 ver
Dom was my first "gundam" back when I was a kid, but I lost it in a random local store because I bring it almost anywhere I can. I'm very happy that I can get him again, but now as an adult ❤️
Kakarot197 reviewed the original 1999 version and said that even for the current age it's an incredible kit, and was mind blowing in 1999. I can only imagine this made it even better. I already planned on getting an MG Dom if I can find one so definitely grabbing this one!
The original dom honestly still holds up... I prefer the hands of it too! I dunno, the 1.5 seems kind of pointless to me, I'd say that the rick dom is the kit to get if you want an updated dom, just for those beautiful thruster units. That makes more sense to me than this release. I have to begrudgingly agree on the bronze tier :(
@@MechaGaikotsu I feel as though it was a necessary stepping stones for the 2.0 series, the head to me felt perfect! It's one of my favorite "vintage" MG's, it does pretty much what you'd want a dom to do
For the jet engines on the back, if you rotate them a little bit, you should be able to get full range of motion out if them, they have a weird cross shape that can hinder the motion. :) Fun bit of lore, the Dom does not have verniers, those are all jet engines, and the main difference between the Rick-Dom and standard Dom is that they were swapped out for rocket verniers for use in space.
This kit was actually my very first MG, which was, interesting. The shoulders continue to drive me up a wall, and the knee armor feels fairly, really loose, but that hip assembly... Oh my God that hip was lovely to build.
I ordered the Rick dom last week and fell in love with the simplicity of it. I can’t believe this was ranked so low, it’s such a fun build. I just ordered the dom last night. Personally out of the MG I’ve ordered this year, I think this is one of my more favorable builds. Built the eclipse last week then went straight to the Rick dom and I honestly like the dom more.
Late but the kit itself is great with all that you get and it really is fun to build though at a 60 dollar price tag I do wish it had gotten more new parts.@primustheprotogen3169
I’ve found myself very surgical with an exact knife and a Dremmel and have been putting tabs and holes on weapons to make them work with my kits that have perfect grade style hands.
The MS-09 Dom was my very first MG kit. I nabbed it at a comic-con in 20005, and built it over the course of the next couple days. I was BLOWN AWAY by how detailed, solid, and BIG it was. I still have him on my shelf, (minus an elbow that disintegrated) and it is still one of my favorite kits in my extensive collection. :)
i got to say it has more leg articulation then i thought it would have, to be fair the thing only slides around rather then actually ''walking'' so it dose not need zaku 2 level articulation.
On both mg I’ve gotten (the Dom and Rick Dom) one of the hip pegs snapped on both of them, leaving one leg slightly more wobbly than the other. However, with how CHUNKY the pegs are, it still holds poses, so it’s all good.
I’ve found myself very surgical with an exacto knife and a Dremmel and have been putting tabs and holes on weapons to make them work with my kits that have perfect grade style hands.
i remember building the original one when i was much younger and back then it was a good kit, the way the joints moved was so smooth compared to other MGs of the time. When i think of old MG suits like the OG Zaku II, the GP-01, and the original MK-II, theyre all kinda clunky in how they move. The Dom was cool like that but still, i feel like bandai missed a good opportunity here to make an insane Dom with all modern tech/design. Imagining the mobility and points of detail and articulation that could be had makes me sad. but i also preordered the new RG god gundam so im not really sad.
I just built 1.0 Dom (from backlog) and enjoyed it so much I ordered rick Dom 1.0 yesterday even if the 1.5 drops in a month or 2! It’s very solid and only has a few, easily fixable, seam lines, it’s very easy to modify and is a blank canvas for scribing! I will be getting the 1.5 when it drops to make black tri stars as long as I can get decals

you know what a GREAT candidate for this whole line of retooled old kits would be? the HGUC GM Custom, all it needs is new knees to get a proper double bend and hips that arent ball jointed and BAM, perfection.
I think this kit has huge potential for experimentation. I'd like to try and modify the legs, making them slimmer. Something like a Jonny bravo effect, giant torso/skinny legs
I'm mad at myself because I saw one of these in a store and passed up on it just to see what else was there and I got the Sazabi Ver. Ka. instead and now I have no money and I really like the Dom just from this review.

I can only hope more care is taken into engineering and pricing for future kits. The hguc Xi didn’t feel it’s current price point with empty hand parts and odd shoulder assembly(can’t reach its beam sabers). They can’t keep commanding price points for lines with rollercoaster quality. It seems like throwing darts in the dark for some ideas they have.
Man I haven't been on Dalong in years! And it still looks the same! (I've been converted to the schizophonic blog since ) You can pull it out like that on the hinge but you can't get it back in again without separating the armor to fit it back in. It's the same on the Dwadge.

I never got the Dom units in any scale, and while it seems a bit limited i might actually get it to sit with my Zaku boys.
