Ich really like that you shpw yourself holding the kit at the beginning of videos. This really helps to get a sense of scale amd how it'll look like in real life. The very close up shot bring out details but distort the overall look.
Of course, I had been looking at Doms and finally decided to buy the orginal MG Dom just few months before they announced this thinking: "it's been so long they are probably not coming out with a 2.0" Just my luck.
Don't worry about it, both kits are so similar that it doesn't matter much. Externally they look the same. If they added more detailing and such I'd be kinda angry, but this update doesn't go that far.
I’m still waiting for my order from USAGundam. The Dom is my favorite MS. Too bad they didn’t do a more substantial upgrade. But I’m still hoping for a real grade Dom.
Wow they actually did a really good job redoing the hip/bottom of torso look! It’s got that “S” kind of shape to it now. I literally just built the 1.0 and had to move the post back a couple mm to get a similar look. Most people won’t notice such a small tweak...
Will be getting this one due to the awesome beam bazooka as well. There's a lot of open canvas on this kit for customizing and detailing; gonna use the gundam artifact dom tropen for inspiration.
What a beautiful unit. I'd like to get my own someday since money's really tight right now. To think that I used to bash zeon grunt suits to death when I first started into gundam, I realized how wrong I was and definitely gulping my own spit right now. I wish that they would do more updates like these (gelgoog, zgok, etc) although I'm not sure if those kits needed it.
I'm super pleased. Still unsure about the hands (I honestly prefer the purple of the HG), but I'll definitely look into picking probably the regular Dom up.
I agree with your review. I love the Dom's design, and this MG (I bought the Rick Dom 1.5) has great, great presence. But it's old, from the outside, some areas are sooo empty. I mean, it's by design sure, but it doesn't transpose very well into a 1/100 scale. A few panel lines here and there would have been great. But this kit is an excellent canvas for detailling. Oh and I found the same problem with the shoulder joint that can't fold back in the body... Unless I fiddle around with it, but then I get scared of breaking the joint... The mega bazooka is nide sure, but it comes in two big halves that you snap together. I find that design very old, and not very engaging. I wish Bandai would have tried more. In conclusion, I think that this is a very good kit, it honors the Dom. Not quite to modern MG standards. But the kit is solid and posable. PS : there were NO reason for Bandai to sell the Dom and Rick Dom separately since the two version are so similar. The HG comes with the two armor and thrusters options in the same box by the way.
Ordered the Dom and received the Rick Dom instead, feeling quite bad about this as the DOM comes with much more in terms of weapons and accessories. Both are at the same price point though i don't understand how the rick dom is equivalent to the dom? can you advise?
So I have 3 of the original one painted as a desert custom with projectile weapons instead of beam or normal bazookas and more sword/axe /halberds instead of the heat saber. The 1.5 looks great and I might buy one but the original kit was good enough only issues I've had is the damn fingers as they didn't like holding too much and the fingers tend to fall off and get lost sadly.
So, im not sure if it was just mine, but i found the hip joints to be eerily tight. I couldnt get them to move without fear of breaking them. Tried taking the hips apart (my poor thumbs) and sure enough i ended up snapping a peg on the part labeled T7. I would advise anyone currently building this kit to sand down the pegs on T7 to reduce some frection and lower the chance of breakage. Id also advice the same treatmint on the smaller pegs of T4. Other wise i like this kit. Poses nicely, looks good and can dual wield bazookas. Whats not to love?
I went to get my 2nd old dom and Rick dom before the 1.5 came out, so plus the 1.5, I’m having 3 Mg dom and 3 Mg Rick dom atm. It’s a black tri star color, you gotta have 3 of them 😅
You know if Bandai is not going to do a 2.0 for the 08th MS team master grades then at least doing this to the old ones and making them 1.5s would be appreciated!
Sorry for my bit of a wall of text... 1st, would you recommend to shave a mm or 2 of the rear armor around the shoulder joint for a more fluid operation or would that damage the stability of the construction ? 2nd, would the Sinanju's or other larger kits be lighter, the same, or heavier as this? Maybe it's weight was the reason to stick with the horse shoe cradle mounts.. OR just to keep it the same as the old kits for uniformity in display... thou that seems silly. 3rd, I'm mixed on the 2.0 route, the last 10 years or so it's been difficult(expensive) to get Doms in the states, even before the Rona boom, so I can see it being advantagist to get the new one and have them match the OGs. BUT it would be awesome if there was more details in the armor, and maybe change up the panels and color placement a little for a more contemporary/modern design feel. I do have the OG RickDom and the Desert Dwadge in my backlog, and I look forward to adding this one to the stack and then building them together/in-series. Thou, the hand size thing does kind of bother me now. But I doubt anyone but me would know/notice them. If you made it this far in my ramblings, thankyou. I hope Florida and your local Publix are treating you and your family well!
Also I hope Bandai is going to be reasonable with these and print a large amount! I know they were hard to find immediately after release in japan so I hope everyone gets a chance to get one of these bad boys!
I am in the process of building this kit. Mixed feelings towards the kit: Overall, I love that old UC kits are being revamped. But cant help feeling that the new Doms are half-assed effort from Bandai. It's one of the few OG 0078 series machines that never get a 2.0 treatment, others including guncannon and zeong - the former has an amazing HG revive and the latter has a super good RG. OG Dom gets so little attention from Bandai. I like how they upgraded the build of the MS itself. Modern joints and single piece shoulders to eliminate seam lines are all welcomed. Reusing the MG 2.0 zaku bazooka with no seam lines are perfectly fine as well. But then they kept the old beam bazooka with 2 piece sandwiched together with massive seam and sup-optimal nub placements - which contradicts with why they make the new shoulder armors and used the 2.0 bazooka runner :(. Regarding the hands, I am not a big fan of the fully moveable manipulators - the 1999 1.0 hands are perfectly fine - and the old ones have more bulk to them as well which imo fit better to the overall bulky design and they are more easy to deal with. But to each their own - I am more of a fixed pose hand kinda guy and always dislike the PG style hands. That said, the 1999 MG 1.0 Dom is good enough, so more improvements based on that are always a good thing. Just sad that we will not see a full-blown remaster of the MG Dom in 20+ years now that we have a 1.5 instead of a 2.0 :| The MG 2.0 era (starts with 2.0 MK-II but kits like MG Acguy and MG Ball that released a bit earlier, and MG Gyan which is not a 2.0 are also wonderful kits) is MG at it's peak, detailed inner frame, sturdy build, good articulation and sometimes fun accessories. hope they will do more (which they probably will not in the near future) - we desperately need MG Zaku I 2.0, them GP bois and 08 series
Action base 4 (if I remember correctly) comes with some pronged adapters designed for older kits that didn't come with any. If you look in the instruction manual you can find an example of what I'm talking about. Hope this helps.
@@ZakuAurelius Cool, I just ordered mine :D I currently have Sazabi ver. Ka, Qubeley and Zaku II v.2, I missed out on the Gouf but since I have the Zaku I felt as if it's just a similar build to the Zaku.
i think bandai knew that mg dom would make a better selling. i am sure they are making less on MG rick dom. and in the next decade, this MG rick dom might get a steeper price than dom. bandai been making plastic kits for more than half century. they foresee things regard of the present and past.
This feels more like a HG, or a Full Mechanics than an MG. There really isn't much going on. Am I missing something? Maybe with the fewer parts and simple design, along with the waterslides, would be good for painting.
