This kit has a weird place in my heart. I got the green version, but this RG was my very first Gunpla model kit. It took me a while week during my Christmas break, during which time I discovered Gundam Build Fighters on Gundaminfo and binged that during the building process. But, it got me into the hobby and I still have it displayed on my shelf. I have since switched to HGs and have had a wonderful time ever since.
You should have gotten the HG Zaku II The Origin for a comparison. I think the Origin completely blows the RG out of the water because it has a similar level of detail and is much more stable.
@@OCDCOMMENTS it was a long time ago but the big issue I had with the RG was that it was very fiddly and felt fragile. I couldnt keep the side skirts on, they kept falling off. Since then I’ve done many RGs and the only one I liked less than the zaku was the exia

Lastly, I used to think the colors on the RG were perfect, but the Revive is better. The darker salmon just speaks to me more

This set is my very first Gunpla build. It wasn't too hard to build (save for maybe a few parts) and it was overall very nice to look at. My only problem were the extra hands.
I have a question Kakarot197! How many Operation V units were present on Side 7 by the time the White Base came to pick up the suits as well as when the Zaku 2 reconnaissance team attacked? In the anime, we saw a Guncannon and Guntank get destroyed, yet we were never told exactly how many specific units (Guntank, Guncannon and Gundam) were present. On the Gundam wiki, it says that the White Base was able to hold a maximum capacity of 6 mobile suits. I was wondering if you would know how many of the three operation V units would have initially been intended for delivery to Jaburo Base, had Side 7 not been attacked.
I recently animated a build of this Zaku, and after the handful of real grades that I have built, the most frustrating thing are the front waist bits that always pop off, and I had the most trouble with the props staying in the hands. This is my first gunpla kit. Currently building it. Having trouble keeping turn front inner skirts from staying on. Is that a problem? What should I do. I remember something about using floor polish on loose joints. Would that work for the tiny pegs?
just got into gunpla and this was my first kit. Had no idea "early real grade syndrome" was a thing. Around what model would you say the releases started to get away from these issues? I have a few more old RG kits in my collection but now feel hesitant to expand.
The RG Tallgeese was the first to mostly ditch the MS Joint runner. It still uses it for the arms and for one of the sliding pieces in the legs, but the rest is assembled Master Grade style. After that, the RG Unicorn used the MS Joint runner even less. So, Real Grade #28 and up are what you want. That being said, I can still recommend the Gundam Mk2 Real Grades. Even though it uses the MS Joint runners for all of its frame pieces, it seems to be one of the least susceptible kits to Early Real Grade Syndrome. I’ve seen a lot of people talk about the kit who have had it for years and never had issues with it. Even Mecha Gaikotsu, one of the biggest detractors of early Real Grades, still poses his RG Gundam Mk2 all the time, and he has a reputation for manhandling his kits.
It’s not even that bad but if you move a joint without putting any parts on it,it will break. I did that and the upper right leg broke. Still was able to build it
Looks to have the same number of issues that I had with the RG RX78-2. Looks really nice but trying to pose it without stuff falling off is a nightmare, over 120+ decals & stickers almost with unnoticeable detailing which I did about 70% of it and then I gave up. The inner frame is a good idea in theory but in practice I have much older HGs that can hold poses better and not drop things off them when I'm simply moving an arm or leg. Likely gonna avoid this RG and just build the Gundam The Origin Char Zaku instead since it looks just as good but for a much lower price lol
I got this kit for less than $15.00 US dollars at a Hobby Lobby just a few months ago during a 40% off all model kits sale that they were doing and they originally had it priced at $19.99 but then they double the price about a month later up to $39.99. Talk about a crazy find when I got this kit and that was cheaper than the Origin version.
Idk how anyone things this kit is hard… simple build and enjoyable! A little glue goes a long way for this kit. Also if you are gonna man handle your kit the way he is almost any kit will suffer from popping out of joints. Its a model kit not action figure 😂
I run a blade along shallow panel lines, works like a treat. You have to be careful not to slip though, but can use your thumbnail to smooth out any scratches if you do.
would you recomend this or the rg rx 78 or should i get the revive version and wait for rg 2.0 versions of these if that even happens? i just like the idea of having the core fighter
I build both the RG Zaku and RX 78. The Zaku is a bit sturdider. But the Gundam was easyer to build and just looks super impressive. The only real downside of the RG Gundam imo is that the shoulder armour feels a bit loose. But honestly I would recommend both. So if you want a gundam with core fighter going for the real grade is definetly a great option.
it's an awesome kit but the only thing that made me skip it is the color. I prefer the suit to be a brighter Red instead of pink. I went with the HG Zaku II red comet the origin.
What did I get myself into... Oh, wait, I'm a glutton for hobby punishment! I still am looking forward to building one of these that I bought, I appreciate the word of caution on some weak points!
this kit was the first kit i got and it was not good after i started watching gunpla videos and my little char aznable is already broken at his ankle and i have only had the kit since july 2022
I never realized before that the backpack is the only part on the entire kit in that bright red color. It kinda annoys me. They should have just made if the same maroon as the rest of the torso.
@@yanjirujan193 while some original series art depicts the backpack as being brighter red than everything else, there’s also plenty that depicts the backpack as maroon, pink, dark grey, or even brown. Hell, there’s some artwork that shows Char’s Zaku as actually being red instead of the maroon and salmon pink that it was in the actual show. My point is they could have gotten away with not making it the only piece in that color. Whether that’s by not having that color at all or by adding a little more of it to other areas. They’re already taking liberties with the design (don’t remember all those panel lines in original artwork) and the color, so why not?
@@kairellim5094 from what i saw, Bandai just want to keep the main color similar to the original appearance, while adding some detail. Remember this is the company that will put most of variations on P-Bandai
I think it's more like 3 times more difficult to maintain my sanity with this thing. I bought one as soon as it was available in my country, and after a few months I put in in my scrap/junk/extra parts box. It was just so hard to handle and pose without something popping/falling off. Plus after a few months. The frame just went limp. I pose this once in awhile. Even then it was just really frustrating. Edit: I don't hate this thing. The thing I hate about it is how much I had to glue parts to the point of it almost becoming a statue.

I know it is for extra detail but feels like it could have been easily molded into the chest plate. I might weather it into a battle damaged one, or maybe put it back into the box.
This was my first ever gunpla kit, i purchased from my first ever comic-con...
I had so much fun, that next comic-con i brought an RG Gya-Gya and an RG Blaze zaku phantom
What? You mean MG, right? Or HG?
@@yanjirujan193 yeah, sorry, both of the latter kits a HGs, i was so tired when i posted that comment i slept for 12 hours...
Given how many different versions of Char's Zaku there are, I'd say these are the best.
HGUC Char's Zaku Revive
HGGTO Char's Zaku
MG Char's Zaku 2.0
PG Char's Zaku
As a Gunpla builder, MG Char's Zaku 2.0 is the most "fun to build" kit that I've ever build...
The PG zaku 2 was fun to build the hardest part was trying to work out what screws were which and building the monoeye ( everything was in Japanese which I can't read ),hopefully one day I'll find the expansion sets l NEED the light up heat hawk
@@666styxxx666 use google lens dude. it helps me assign paints.
@@RazgrizFllaga dude I do better than Google lens I get my color chart out or mech 9 website 😝 I've tried translate apps before but found them either unable to read or recognise Japanese so gave up on them , I know that these days tech is better but I prefer my way
@@666styxxx666 you should give it a try before knocking it. if it can recognize exact paint type from mr colour and read a whole cooking ingredients and instructions, i think its safe to say you should give it a fair shot.
Man, if only there's a way for them to modernize the early RG inner frames.....
I absolutely dispised this. I built the Zeta RG with no issues, i built this and snapped the leg joint right away during the building phase..
The RG Zaku 2 is my favorite zaku look wise, but man it’s a nightmare to build, I hate those skirts they keep falling off
I lost 2 of the pipe pieces and was so tired of cutting the same part and the spring launching it the left leg has one less
I'll just warn you ahead of time, the only redeeming things about the RG Rx-78-2 are the decals and the core fighter. Don't bother getting unless you want a decent core fighter and some Gundam decals.
Oh don't say that. I just finished this one and the RG RX-78-2 is next to go with it x.x
Hay kakarot197 can you help me with something, I remember that you or maybe someone else was advertising a book series about gaint robots sometime ago and I want to know what the title is? Can you help?
If you saw it on my channel, then it was the Science and Sorcery series by Ryan Tang.
@@kakarot197 I looked it up and that is the one I was thinking of thank you.
I Hv 2 model of this kit, can't barely stand of its own
Glad the modern RG don't hv dat kind of issues
Im working on it right now... I hate it haha 😂 its gonna look great when its done but dang its pretty confusing. The instructions aren't too clear on the arms for example
Something I need to rebuild due to my shelf collapsing!
As a full on masochist, i gotta get this
I build this as my 3rd gunpla, it is honestly not that bad if you are carefull.
@@zafranorbian757 im very careful and gentle when posing, so i think i can handle it. The rx was me second kit lol and it didnt turn out too bad
Yea it really is, the early real grades are fun
It’s not even that bad but if you move a joint without putting any parts on it,it will break. I did that and the upper right leg broke. Still was able to build it
The lack of one eyed mobile suite in RG line is frustrating..
6 extra pipe pieces included. 5 in the video lol.
It’s almost like he had to use one of the spares because he lost one like an idiot.
That gun wiggle lol
Talk about a crazy find when I got this kit and that was cheaper than the Origin version.
what panel liner did you use? i experienced cracks on mine using the pour type marker
well at least 1:114 char zaku collectors have multiple great looking options between this the origin and hguc revive
Idk how anyone things this kit is hard… simple build and enjoyable! A little glue goes a long way for this kit. Also if you are gonna man handle your kit the way he is almost any kit will suffer from popping out of joints. Its a model kit not action figure 😂
i broke 3 parts and loss 1 part building this zaku and just left the zaku head less since then
i have already ordered the RG tallgeese,
but between this zaku and the RX 78-2 Gundam which one is "better"?
the shallow panel lines are killing me on this kit. Ink just runs everywhere
I run a blade along shallow panel lines, works like a treat. You have to be careful not to slip though, but can use your thumbnail to smooth out any scratches if you do.
God i still have nightmares about the damn beads on the springs
I love Zakus.
Can I ask for a vid that is about the first Meijin and second mobile suits
Hopefully we get the Origin edition of the RX-78-2 and Char's Zaku hehehe
Did i mess up getting this as a fist build. I cant read the instructions
More question of the week please 🙏
Very soon!
@@kakarot197 hey thanks for replying
Its make my day so much joyfull
@@petrusdimitrilarantukan7678 Have a heart too :D
would you recomend this or the rg rx 78 or should i get the revive version and wait for rg 2.0 versions of these if that even happens? i just like the idea of having the core fighter
Man, right now P-Bandai has the RG Zaku II-Robert Gilliam version and I'd be lying if it wasn't a bit tempting...
it's an awesome kit but the only thing that made me skip it is the color. I prefer the suit to be a brighter Red instead of pink. I went with the HG Zaku II red comet the origin.
This looks eerily like the Char Zaku II for Gundam the Origin. O.o more so than to other 1/100 scale Zaku II's...
What did I get myself into... Oh, wait, I'm a glutton for hobby punishment! I still am looking forward to building one of these that I bought, I appreciate the word of caution on some weak points!
Really want a RG Tieren and Union Flag.
And for 0079 a RG Zock 😊
this kit was the first kit i got and it was not good after i started watching gunpla videos and my little char aznable is already broken at his ankle and i have only had the kit since july 2022
I bought the rg black tristart zaku 2. is it the same as this one?
The pain of wanting things to put with sazabi and the nu suits
Sooo….you are saying you want to try the RG Sinanju next ;)
D:
The rg pilot figure are not at the same scale of the rg ms
what are the model kits that are genuinely hard to build?
Just try to find similarities between the OG RG RX78-2 Gundam and the RG ver. 2.0 😅
Just give it time and everything will fall apart
Our only hope is for a 2.0 of all the ERG
For some reason, I was expecting to see it against the GTO version of the Zaku II.
Getting those springs and those cylinders to stop exploding made me lose my sanity
Love the kit , completed 2 weeks ago and just last night the leg fucking snapped off while trying to pose 😭
I never realized before that the backpack is the only part on the entire kit in that bright red color. It kinda annoys me. They should have just made if the same maroon as the rest of the torso.
Blame the designer from original series, because their objective to design eye-catching robot so the toys would sell well
@@yanjirujan193 while some original series art depicts the backpack as being brighter red than everything else, there’s also plenty that depicts the backpack as maroon, pink, dark grey, or even brown.
Edit:
I don't hate this thing. The thing I hate about it is how much I had to glue parts to the point of it almost becoming a statue.
this zaku is so fragile i think its more appropriate to call it the red snowflake rather then the red commit
How would you say it looks compared to the origin version?
The origin win hand down, you just need to add a gem for the eye
OHHH. you can get that crouched pose by taking off the skirt in front of the leg. I feel so dumb
My trauma with this kit is Torture nub cleaning on the pipes, building experience was ehh, end product was okay.
I would argue that the most fragile red comet would be the Char from Gundam-san XD
