Eh, I think I'll still buy one of the RG Zakus. I can't really fault the engineering of the kit considering the Zaku II, in general, was the second Real Grade. I'll just glue the trouble parts on.
NEVER start building gunpla with early rg kits. Mine is the rg rx-78-2 gundam and it sucks. The articulation is good especially with the armor split gimmicks but the build sucks, the parts falls off all the time, the foil decals are a real pain in the butt (probably the worst are the ones in the elbow, whenever you bend it they will peel off). In short, it’s a hand greenade.
Surprisingly, the old hguc zaku 2 Is pretty solid except for its hands, I wasn't that bad to build as my first model kit, and as far as I can tell it's actually more solid than the rg and hg origin zakus.

Totally agree with you, sadly bandai doesn't give as much love to zeon as it should, though its even worse for my favorite series mobile fighter g gundam, it seems that bandai really hates g gundam.
My RG Zaku II was a difficult build with one problem after another. I had to glue some parts like those two little front torso panels. The tiny little eye took lots of patience to get in place and I was lucky to find it as it popped off and flew across the room while pushing it on. The hoses are fiddly and tricky to attach. Still, it is doable and looks quite nice when completed.
Still not sure why Bandai is stubborn enough not to make ratchet joints in their kits. It makes a stronger joint and make poses more permanent. Hopefully they step out of their comfort zone and improve them
The g gundam master grade speigel used screw in its joints. Honestly I think the reason few models do that is becuase you have to build it just perfectly so you can move the joint without breaking anything on the model.
1. Degrades easily 2. Have to build perfectly for it to work properly i.e PG 00 Raiser 3. Overall plastic quality can be shredded 4. It's honestly not worth it on smaller grades (from physics class, the smaller the gear/ratchet less overall strength)
That weak ball joint arm is very easy to fix. Either you top coat the ball joint part or apply a proper amount of any quick dry super glue so that the ball joint can be stiff when attached.
I recently did the RG Char's Zaku. The early RG really are not fun to build and pieces fall off and joints are loose. They look fantastic, but I did not find them fun. If you want them for your collections then go for it, but it you want a good quality RG, then go for the ones from the Unicorn forward. They keep improving in my opinion and are loosing the complete pre-molded inner frames which makes their joints so much better. I totally agree with you Mecha Gaikotsu.
Just got one 5/12/2022, and can confirm, the front skirts fall off, the balance can be difficult, and for me, no undergating of the nubs had me sweating. But it's a kit I loved building and posing!
Also the side skirts can pull out slightly and slip bakc over the butt plate to get a bit more out of the hip (but looses so much knee articulation because of the high mobility lower legs)
0:45 ime a bit new to the hobby, but would the use of superglue to ensure loose parts like that be frowned upon? I come from 40k where almost all of our kits require superglue with the exception of some of the most recent easy build kits and even then the hobby store recommends you glue it to strengthen the joint.
The original zaku was my first rg and it turned me off the entire scale until I ran across the z'gok and I was like "oh, some of these aren't misery, cool"
I have a base RG Zaku and I never had any problems with it, though I did tighten up the ball joints with nail polish and I glued the small parts in place.
@@XB3Gaming I think the best stuff is paint and superglue, but if your going to use nail polish, make sure to check that it's a type that won't corrode the plastic of your gunpla.

The head needs to be pushed down more into the body, it'll click in to place, if you dont do it it'll fall off. Takes a supprising amount of pressure to do.
That snout is supposed to be somewhere between the grey and the black of the armor, leaning more heavily towards black. Probably the best match is the zaku black marker from the full set, that comes with the standard and char colors
The thing about ace pilot RGs is that they are made for certain fans only. Honestly, Bandai needs to have a RG 2.0 for the early RGs especially the Seed series.
Having too built the RG Zaku II as well, I can agree about the RG syndrome. Building that and the Nu Gundam -even setsuna’s (sorry for the bone apple tea) mobile suits- are certainly night and day in terms of the build and feel. Anything before the the release of the RG exia should be avoided unless you REALLY want to build it. But avoid the RG zeta gundam at all costs UNLESS YOU WANT TO PULL THE PIN ON A HAND GRENADE. Hopefully- maybe never - Bandai will do a 2.0 of the very first wave of the RG line.
That’s not even true. Just because you built the rg exia and you liked it doesn’t mean their wasn’t great early real grades before it. The RG MK II, Freedom, Strike Freedom, GP01, and GP01 FB all came out before it and they’re all much less finicky than RG Exia. RG exia is a good kit but you’re doing a disservice to the line by saying it was the first good real grade.
You were supposed to use the clear lense on the hyper bazooka but either way they should have both been clear pink or with pink stickers like tou mentioned. I ended up just painting both of them using a metallic pink gundam marker
many underestimate the RGs, these have a HUGE potential, some are better in appearance than the MGs themselves (obviously nothing better than a PG) but the RGs with enough work can become a miniature PG (of course, any gunpla with enough work arrives at that point) what I am trying to say is that using an RG as a base you save a lot of paint and detail work, I mean, the inner frame is already build, I do gunplas customs and I like working with the RGs for that reason, the touches of paint to make the worn inner frame look coherent is only achieved when it is fully constructed and having the inner frame built saves work, since loose or fragile parts are easily fixable with a little work (and glue). in addition, the RGs have fewer parts and are usually less complex than the PGs (in addition to not having to deal with annoying lights) so it makes the job even easier and the RGs also have those functions of splitting the armor when a member moves and things like that, so... for projects (In my opinion) I like working more in RG than in MG or PG.
I skipped this RG because well.. stickers and much of what you say is valid. RG Zakus are for the die hard fanatics that doesn't mind all the short comings of these rehash old RGs.

I think you swapped the scopes for the bazookas. The big bazooka should be using the clear one while the puny vanilla bazooka should be using the gray one. Nonetheless, yeah, not having clear scopes for both bazookas is a major gripe I have for the High Mobility Zaku RGs. I'm currently building this one and it already feels old having built every P-Bandai RG Zaku to date.

so far I've built the rx 78,green zaku,mk2 and the zephyranthes rg kits and I'm loving the challenge I've got the unicorn on its way and I'm looking forward to that but I'm wondering what rg kit to get next any ideas ?
Honestly, I feel that the only merit of building an rg zaku is to say that you've built an rg zaku. Like, the HG origin zakus pretty much do the same thing whilst not blowing up into pieces!
only problem is, that origin zaku has weird proportions when compared to the original zaku from every other show (too bulky, especially on the legs). It's not a problem for the most people, but personally, I cannot unseen it.
I'd recommend the RX-78 with the CS frame, and then buying the CS expansion pack. I built the most awesome GM using them, and if you paint it on, it's beautiful.
Will there be a review on the RG RX-78-2? Or maybe the high grade O gundam or high grade Astrea? I already have them [astrea being rather well build in my opinion] i just want to hear your take on them.
I recently got into Gunpla, and Zaku sets in particular as I love the Zeon units.. I own two of the normal green RG's of this and... yhea, they're just as terrible, sadly. the HG one is perhaps a little plainer, but is such a better kit over all.. Probably why I now own four of them >.>;
Okay, the monoeye gimmick is pretty cool. I also like the color. However, this one's a hard pass for me. Too much trouble for a plastic hand grenade. These things lose so many parts, you need a destructive ordinance tax stamp to own one in the states
A little glue goes a LONG way. Call me old but I've been building Gunpla since the 90s when you pretty much HAD to glue the pieces to keep them together.
The problem with any rg, is those tiny ass freaking thrusters, i had to mold one out of green stuff and paint it, hoping that it will go unnoticed where i placed it

Theres problematic parts in many RGs that can't be glued or it messes up the articulation. Its a stupid fix for a useless item considering there are better and its ok to not like RGs. But yeah... FaNbOyeeeeZzz!
I think I'd rather get an hg high mobility Zaku and repaint it.
I don't know why but those tiny chest parts you mentioned being so loose isn't an issue with mine. You just have to press those all the way man. 🙂
Lol when I thought about which kit is gonna be my first, I had to decide between rg zeta and rg unicorn. Thank God I chose the unicorn.
Got the MG of this, still need to build it. 2nd random P-Bandai I get and Mecha reviews it (or a grade variant of) ..... Next review would be Zeta Plus (Unicorn color variant) and it'd 3 on 3 for me and Mecha being the same person and/or having the same premium kits. This is getting weird :p
what does Mecha mean by the dark ages?
I have the rg Johnny ridden zaku and I thought it was a pain in the ass. Looks good but it's delicate as hell.
so far I've built the rx 78,green zaku,mk2 and the zephyranthes rg kits and I'm loving the challenge I've got the unicorn on its way and I'm looking forward to that but I'm wondering what rg kit to get next any ideas ?
Try Moon gundam.
When are you announcing the winner of the unicorn perfectability?
Monday night
@@MechaGaikotsu thanks
Honestly, I feel that the only merit of building an rg zaku is to say that you've built an rg zaku.
Like, the HG origin zakus pretty much do the same thing whilst not blowing up into pieces!
I love the origin zakus! I have 3 and want more!
@@MechaGaikotsu I probably should get another and paint it in The Eric Manthfield colors instead of going through p-bandai hell for this..
only problem is, that origin zaku has weird proportions when compared to the original zaku from every other show (too bulky, especially on the legs). It's not a problem for the most people, but personally, I cannot unseen it.
wait the chest part is loose?? how come my normal rg zaku didnt do that
It's best to wait till the " RG-Nu Articulation Treatment " for all Zakus version reissued.
Why not just glue on any small parts that easily fall of or get knocked off?
So I'm bad at building gunpla unless its one of the cs sd frame kits do you have any reccomendations for my next sd gundam
I've only built 2, but I really liked the Ground Gundam
Thanks ill check it out
I'd recommend the RX-78 with the CS frame, and then buying the CS expansion pack. I built the most awesome GM using them, and if you paint it on, it's beautiful.
I'd suggest you try out the zaku 2.0 MGs they're really nice and sold in most ways
Will there be a review on the RG RX-78-2? Or maybe the high grade O gundam or high grade Astrea? I already have them [astrea being rather well build in my opinion] i just want to hear your take on them.
I'd probably pick a pose and glue it into place. But sense my Zaku collection wouldn't be complete without it. Buyee here I come lol
Can relate. It's my first RG cause I got a discount, but it nearly turned me off of RGs until I built RG Qan(t)
Those RG Zakus are amazing monos.
I don’t think this would b so bad if it wasn’t all Pbandai. I ended up just repainting a black tru stars high mobility zaku to save the $50
hey mecha will you be getting the hazel part packs and other advance of zeta kits
That Zaku head on that kit looks like it has a mustache. LOL
I got the Char's Commander version. Real Grade is just too small for all those tiny details...
I got the RG Red Zaku and I'll tell you, the Spiked shoulder is a nightmare
Will you be doing a review of the MG F90?
Im wondering if you are still going to get the pbandai rg perfect strike despite of this ERGS thing.
I recently got into Gunpla, and Zaku sets in particular as I love the Zeon units..
I own two of the normal green RG's of this and... yhea, they're just as terrible, sadly. the HG one is perhaps a little plainer, but is such a better kit over all..
Probably why I now own four of them >.>;
The mg 2.0 is very good
I'm willing to buy a RG ms06r1a high mobility zaku II even knowing that it has problems.
Why dont they do a RG 2.0 for the zaku and rx-78-2? I would love to get the rx but ive heard its the worst real grade
The problem with any rg, is those tiny ass freaking thrusters, i had to mold one out of green stuff and paint it, hoping that it will go unnoticed where i placed it
Who would win a fight between gundam or transformers
1 like= gundam
Comment= transformers
Transformers - watch Deathbattle
Gundam
I like the white and grey coloration however when the pilots are fighting outside of hte mech they have a tendency to miss all their shots
I’d just get an hg the origin Zaku II Type C anyways. Still rg Zaku II seems worth it for just sheer detail alone
LOL just bought the RG black tri star zaku2 go check p Bandai right this second. You’re welcome
Ha, I got the shin matsunaga one off of there. Just saw this video. First gunpla I'll be building.
Figure it'll be ok since I'll know what to expect going in and hell, it was under $50.
@@meatblade3490 yeah I mean I have the regular RG zaku2 and I fucking love it. There’s obviously better kits, but IMO RG are the hardest to build, but they’re still my favorite line due to size. You’re going to have a blast! Frustrating but worth it! If anything keeps popping off just glue it.
@@jakecochran8808 Thank you so much for the feedback man! I'll follow that advice.
@@meatblade3490 yeah no worries dude. I’ve only been building kits for maybe two years now. Do yourself a favor and pick up som gundam markers to clean up details like numb marks. I mean unless you’ll jump right into painting. I’m not there yet so just detail marks is fine and some thin panel liner markers or mechanical pencils really make them pop. Straight builds are perfectly fine with just some panel lines.
What does ers stand for?
I got gabby. But missed this one. I still want it!
