- I get a lot of questions about fishing when I play Stardew Valley on stream, so I decided to make a video sharing my tips and tricks. Here are my favorite Stardew Valley fishing tips for beginners! If you'd like to catch me playing on stream, follow me on Twitch at twitch.tv/deathbyflies.
Thank you for the tips buddy, I just started playing yesterday. I don't usually mind fishing in games but this one had me confused.

I can't fish even with training pole😭😭. Playing on nintendo switch. Very frustrating..
The switch takes some getting used to but I also play on switch! My tips for switch are sorta the same, don’t hold down the button just click it at a good pace. Some fish are just harder than others too but if you get a few easy ones with the training today your skill will increase and it will get easier!

Which button do I need to push? I feel a fishband press the A button and my guy just takes the fishing pole back with no fish

I can fish with training pole but can't on bamboo pole
OMG! Thank you so much! The tip regarding the beginner's pole and the slow tap, tap, tap and I just caught my first fish after going through 2 years in the game without catching one fish! I was pounding too hard on the Y button on my switch. XOXOXOXO!
I havent started fishing since Winter in year 4

This was the most helpful video! I practiced today using your tips and finally got to level 6 fishing after struggling hardcore. Coming from fishing in Animal Crossing, I thought it would be impossible!

Good tips. I watched a video that suggested using only the bamboo rod to level up in the beginning so that's what I did. I couldn't catch a fish at all. I then switched to the training rod and finally got my skill level up to 5. I wish I had seen your video first. It would have saved me a lot of aggravation.
Oh darn well I’m glad you found it either way. The training rod is wayyyy easier than the bamboo pile haha I also couldn’t catch anything with the bamboo pole when I first got the game 😂
I watched several other videos on this. Not one mentioned the training rod or counting. I've found this the first and only helpful video on PC fishing in Stardew Valley. Thanks for posting.

woah can i just say THIS WORK i was having a hard time fishing and i tried the 1,2,3 tap i got it on the first try and it was not on the training rod. i tried on the training rod and i got one too i practice more i didnt got a fish the third time but in the end i got 4 fishes in just 3minutes im not kidding. i tried it after i saw this video it totally work THANK YOU SO MUCHH!!! i was about to give up good thing i saw this

when i fish,, the thing goes in the middle when i dont press anythng.... i have no clue how to keep it in the bar.
it's really difficult at first, you just have to practice! some fish will be almost impossible to catch until you're level 10 or higher.

Does the three tap system work on the switch? I am struggling so bad! I have the training rod, but just can't seem to control the bar at all.
My issue is the fast fish. I cant get them
Honestly, same sometimes! But I’ve gotten better over time and also once you max the skill it gets easier because the bar is bigger! So just keep fishing and you’ll get there!

You press Y to cast and then again when you see the exclamation mark but you have to be fast or it doesn’t work :)

Why cant i hit the fish? There are exclamation points but i cant hit the fish so the minigame wont pop up

Im struggle to catch the fish. But my question is what need to press on the keyboard. Specially I am newbie on twitch. Can anyone help me about this.
On keyboard you click with the mouse!
How should I push the button on Switch Lite?
i would do the same type of button clicking on switch as i do on keyboard. i mostly play on switch now and usually taking it slow is better than holding down the button or rapidly clicking. it's going to be different for every fish though, so just practice and see what feels best to you!
What button do you push on switch to reel it in?
Sorry for the late response but I believe it’s Y on switch to cast and reel back in!
i just started playing on the switch and the fishing minigame popped up once, but i can’t get it to pop up again…. i can cast the line with Y, and then it vibrates and an exclamation point appears above my charcter, but none of the buttons do anything, except hitting Y again which just pulls my line back without any minigame or fish. i don’t get it…
@@janirose you use Y for the entire time. You have to be fast when you see the exclamation and press Y which should bring up the minigame. Y is also how you control the minigame. You can miss the fish if you press Y too long after the exclamation point, and it’s like literally a second or less so it’s easy to miss! I hope this helps.

I never get hits.
so when you first start fishing and your skill is low fish bite way less often. the hits can be easy to miss so make sure you're watching for the exclamation mark and listening for the sound.

Is there a setting? Cause I do not get the word hit to tell me to start reeling in.
It’s not a setting. There is no word it’s like a little chirping sound and the exclamation mark pops up above your players head!

I have been having this problem too and I haven’t seen anyone else talk about it!! I never get the word “hit” but I do hear the chirping sound and see the exclamation point! But when I try to reel it in a mini game never pops up :// I was wondering if it might be a bug too!
I got my first fish on my first try after I got the pole from Willy, but somehow I deleted it or something…took me like 2-3 mins to catch it so I was really peeved 😤😪 haven’t gotten anything since…

Help it’s year two and I’ve only caught one fish 💀💀💀
Do you need iridium rod or a certain fishing level to get iridium fish
And should i buy iridium rod or get a backpack upgrade
In order to catch iridium fish you actually have to have a perfect catch (the fish in the mini game never leaves the green bar). I would get the backpack upgrade first personally because more inventory space is helpful for fishing as well.
I should add that in order to catch high quality fish you need to use the bamboo or fiberglass rod, you can’t catch quality fish with the training rod.

I am having perfect catches most of the time but i end up getting gold quality only;(
And okay ill buy backpack upgrade
@@UltraInstinct509 you might need a higher skill but from what I’ve researched I can’t find anything other than perfect catches. Try fishing in the areas I mentioned in this video where higher quality fish usually are. It has to be a gold fish that you catch perfectly to be iridium. If it’s a silver quality fish and you make a perfect catch, it will be a gold fish. The quality increases one level when it’s a perfect catch!
