    As somebody born and raised in Caracas, I can tell you that our mountain El Ávila is one of the greatest privileges we have. It is a green beautiful mountain with multiple points of access throughout the city. Once in, you will enjoy the purest air and some kind of inner peace, all this right in the city. El Ávila, what a treasure. Enjoy!

    I’m sorry you are getting negative comments from small minded people. They probably are the kind of people that have never left their hometown to travel. Venezuela is like every country. It has poor areas, nice areas, dangerous and safe areas. How naive to not realize every part of the world is like that. Thank you for sharing this video! It seems like you had a lovely time! Sending blessings to you.

    There's no doubt that Venezuela is a beautiful country. There's no doubt that life in Caracas has changed in the past couple of years. What's still uncertain is what would happen if an American citizen found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Tourists from other nations would likely have no problem because their nation likely has an embassy in Venezuela. The USA does not.

    • @airedition
      @airedition  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes a fair point, mitigated by the fact that an American citizen would likely not be allowed in. However I have heard about some sneaking in and that is a very bad idea. As long as you’re there legally as a tourist I don’t think it’s in the governments interest to mess with you. Just my take, I admit I could be wrong there!

      An American white guy find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time in Texas, he will be in trouble (anywhere in the world). However, if you find yourself in any place of Latin America, use your common sense, that will help you avoid unnecessary risk.

      haha none of these countries are honest, they always make up rumors to ruin other’s reputations. seems like they’re not aware about the fact that we’re all humans and we live in the same planet. for the sake of the planet’s living, fighting will only make it worse but seems like they’re so focused on their benefits or be the super potency of nowadays. after all, do we seriously expect humanity to change? that’s like waiting for a billions of dollars to come to your house out of nothing.

  • @devilmansanchez

    This is the experience from the POV of a tourist that has access to good standards of living in their own countries.
    Those of us that lived and have relatives living in the country, the typical Venezuelan, have a widely different experience. Not exactly a pleasant trip to the Avila eating nice food and going around without a care in the world. More like days without electricity, poor water quality, inaccessible medication, no opportunities for the young, and dangerous criminals.
    Mr. Leigh also showed beautiful puppies at the end of the video. In Venezuela, street dogs are the typical, and one can usually see starving dogs walking around the streets begging for food.
    I'm happy some people can still enjoy Venezuela. But is a shame that Venezuelans are not among them.

    • @airedition
      @airedition  4 месяца назад +7

      Of course it is, and I state as much. This is a limited look at a particular experience of Venezuela. The point being that most potential visitors still think they will be walking into hell on earth, and that’s not the case at all.

      Your comment is very accurate. There are different ways to live the reality in my country. It depends on the resources and contacts you have. I think this is what happens when you have a broken economy, society and government. There's not equality where it is supposed to be.

    Travel warnings are issued by the US government which is antagonistic towards the Venezuelan government. You should always think twice about visiting most of Latin America, not just Venezuela.

    • @airedition
      @airedition  5 месяцев назад +3

      Similar travel warnings have been issued by most governments for Venezuela, so US antagonism doesn’t fully explain the disconnect from reality. But, these things can be slow to get updated. As for danger across Latin America, yeah, in general terms I’d say it’s a region you should visit with some idea of what you’re doing, some experience, knowing what to expect and what places and situations to avoid. But very few cities I would tell someone to skip entirely.

Did that make it easier for you? We're 2 obvious European looking, middle-aged and don't speak Spanish. I imagine it would make us targets?

    • @airedition
      @airedition  Месяц назад +1

      I don’t think it matters too much how you look, it’s more about how you carry yourself. It’s totally fine if you don’t speak Spanish but you’ll want some local help/knowledge to have the best time and know where to go, I’d say. All this depending how much experience you have traveling in Latin America.

      @@steelcitytvright, but again, the travel warnings for Venezuela are way exaggerated and misleading. You can travel widely and freely in Venezuela and have no problem. That’s the point of this video and I’m sorry if you don’t like it but it’s the truth. Everyone trying to argue with that has some kind of agenda. Not sure what yours is but maybe you should ask yourself why you’re so eager to prove I’m wrong in some way.

      @@airedition You spent a few days there and went nowhere. You didn’t go into any real barrios. Didn’t meet 99% of the people who are starving. And didn’t talk to ANY of the thousands of people in the western part of the country who every day try to cross into Cucuta, Colombia to escape to elsewhere.
      Do you think that 8 million people over the last 10 years…out of a total population of 30 million…left the country for no reason at all? You see…
      I’ve seen vlogs like yours, where you’re claiming to reveal the REAL truth about Venezuela, but you’re so tragically and laughingly wrong, about absolutely everything, that you should be embarrassed.

    • @airedition
      @airedition  6 месяцев назад +2

      Your hostility is so utterly misplaced. I acknowledge in the video that there are still many problems there and that I’m only scratching the surface and that I’m not looking to get into the politics. Furthermore I never claim to be doing an investigative documentary about the real situation in Venezuela, just showing how surprisingly safe and pleasant it is in the places I saw. Which was true, and very counter to the picture we get outside. And actually a lot of Venezuelans who are still there (unlike you) are really happy to see it portrayed as more than just a crime-ridden hell hole. So, maybe chill out when you’re talking to people on the internet, and find another outlet for your very real and valid frustrations about the way things have gone there. Attacking me is not the answer.

    I went there in 1990 and it was pretty awful ..... everything was so poorly built ! it looks really third world and in 1990 I didn't feel safe at night. At first glance it looks ok but when you're there, standing in front of it all, it's really crappy. I hav been to most of South America and it was the crappiest of all and the one with the least amount culture (it feels very generic).
