I really appreciate that you tried to help the architect, but his plight was truly heart breaking. He hung his certificates so proudly. He played his music for you so well too. Good luck to him.
Being that hes a youtuber im pretty sure he got with the local government and was given the okay to go there without any real danger. He didnt just fly into caracas and walk around. They all knew he would be there.
Ben. You are my role model. What ever people say. I’m 25 years old you have shown me how to interact with people! Last week I visited Hungary and had a meggy ale in your honour. Thanks once again! You are a Legend!
Bald never disappoints. Spending a year to learn Spanish so he can better understand his travel destination is a labor of love. He doesn’t babble a few, mispronounced words strung together like the other travel youtubers. He’s more insightful, more authentic and less cynical than bourdain. Que Jesus y Miguel lo bendigan siempre
As a native Spanish speaker myself it amazes me how well he can communicate in Spanish. His Spanish isn't perfect but he appears to have a big enough vocabulary and grasp on grammar to have dialog with the locals. Very impressive considering he only learned Spanish recently.
It makes sense. the criminals make more money abroad. of course not ALL of the immigrants are criminals. the US did not bother filtering out the bad ones.
Thank you for showing parts of the world 99.9% will never see through your wonderfully raw lens, your interactions with the locals are hilarious, endearing and overall a pleasure to watch! Thanks Bald and keep going amigo, we love this!
It’s really sad because Venezuela has the best potential many of its neighbors in latin and south america to become a powerhouse, not just in economy but also opportunity. One day I hope to visit a Venezuela that models this.
The people of Caracas express such warmth and hospitality. Hope this video will change the reputation of the country and pave way for more tourists to come there. ❤
I had the pleasure of visiting Venezuela in the early 1990's. It was a vibrant, thriving country with beautiful and gracious people. I'm heartbroken the people have suffered so much.
Maybe Seann Penn, Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover, Naomi Campbell, Noam Chompsky, Oliver Stone and Kevin Spacey can all help out. They were Hugo Chávez's besties.😂
If you are a common American Citizen do not go to Venezuela ! there was common 10 American citizen who visited Venezuela was wrongly imprisoned by Maduro regime to use them for prisoner exchange for Alex Saab which was caught for 350 millions dollars money laundering for the Maduro regime look it up.
@@anakin3060 Its the truth mate. I am not from Venezuela but it extremly pisses me off that millions of people have to suffer because of corrupt and incompetent politicians and then they glorify someone like Chavez.
That man forced to live under a bridge selling junk really made me think about my own 'problems'. The fact he wanted to play music for you was really touching and made me want to cry. It's a shame that because of government corruption and incompetence and other countries exploiting them and basically stealing from the country, those decent, hard working friendly people have to live like that.
@@seasn5553 If Venezuela was communist. They would have been a lot better off then they are now, Id rather live in Cuba then most latin american countries. My wife got a Phd just to make 400 euros a month in brazil imagine being poor there.. Had they been communist at least those poeple would be fed and housed.
I went solo traveling twice in my early twenties and both times left me pretty rattled. I never experienced any real danger, but just being so out of my element and being constantly worried about being taken advantage of or accidentally wandering into a bad area made me completely fall out of love with the idea solo travel and seeing the world in general. Watching you admitting that you were worried, but still manoeuvring a dicey place like Caracas like a champ is really inspiring.
Going there is like playing russian roulette. If any normal westerner went there and dressed as nicely as bald did they would certainly be mugged. Im pretty sure he was given the okay and protection to be there considering how well known he is.
I can't believe the architect wasn't home! What a wonderful gift to give to a well-educated man who took the time to share his heartbreaking story. That would have been the perfect goodbye to this Venezuelan adventure.
Dude, that architect living under a bridge broke my heart. I am from Argentina and we received a lot of Venezuelans after the recent crisis. Very hard-working nice people, the ones I met. But I can't stop thinking they escaped from and it's inflation.. and they ended up here where we seem to be going through the same process. Kind of sad. It´s cool that you come to south American countries. Make good use of your Spanish, it's getting much better. Keep it up
Espero pronto todos nuestros amigos venezolanos y argentinos salgan de las situaciones tan difíciles algún día me gustaría visitar todo latino America porque todos somos 1 mismo animo! Y saludos desde mexico
We are really blessed with your work bald. A platform for all! In all cultures and all walks of life, so sad for the architect that lived under the bridge. Keep safe brother!
As a Venezuelan this video hits me on an other level. You went to see the "worst" parts of Caracas but somehow you made it look good! I might have seen you walking through downtown Caracas but I'm not sure. If you come back make sure to hit me up so I can show you the richer areas!
I live in Ohio and this video seems unreal to me, It looks like someone doing a video through Japan but in south America. It's so unbelievably clean everywhere and people seem to really care. Even the cars and trucks are exactly the ones I see on the road in Ohio, minus the few we can't get here.
Dear Andres, there are several Venezuelan youtubers like Joseh Malon, Ey Graffe and even the wonderfull JapoVenezolano Keito Homma who have dedicated themselves to showing the interior of Venezuela, the changes are notable. The contrast between what the mainstream media say and the current reality of the country is incredible
bald really is the best travel vlogger i have seen. The way he communicates with locals and puts a smile on their face so easily is not something every person can do
He's the only one I've seen here and I don't want to watch any other travel vlogger. It is by pure happenstance (or the YT algorithm of suggested videos) that I found his channel. In fact I cannot stand his travel companions when they are featured and don't want to watch their content as they seem always to lack the exuberance, wit and sarcasm of Bald. He's good and he has found his niche in life.
Consider watching some Itchy Boots. Solo female travel moto vlogger that makes 30 minute masterpiece videos 3 times a week. Her and Bald are my favorites.
@@Hjerte_Verke Yes Hjerte I wholeheartedly agree. Bald is one of a kind in this respect. They don't come round very often. The majority of travel vloggers are quite shallow and vacuous even if they have hundreds of thousands or even millions of followers and go to 'dangerous' or 'edgy' places.
Ben nobody can make a vlog as interesting and entertaining like you. The way you get involved with the locals and their lives is amazing. Don’t keep us waiting to long for the next vlog please. Thank you.
People are so kind and beautiful in Venezuela. As an unsociable person, I won't connect well with the locals even if I were there, but I feel like I connect with them through Ben.
As Venezuelan living in England, seeing this was heartbreaking 💔 Venezuelan people have been suffering so much for so long that they don’t have another option than learn to live and be happy with the little they have and helping and protecting each other. My grandfather and great grandfather were architects in Caracas. They helped build downtown and lived in luxurious houses with pools and servants. Seeing that architect under the bridge hit close to home.
@@riiitch I'm sorry but like most youtubers with millions of followers... he went looking for the gore. Also the country has no money because Chavez closed the econmy of the country in 2007 and any company there with funds to build shit went bankrupt. You want to see caracas for real look for "Isa por ahi", "Alex Tienda", "Charly Sinewan".... their content is in spanish but hey, most times the subtitles are good enough.
The problem is not that they dont know how to handle the oil. The problem is that USA has put sanctions on Venezuela ever since Hugo Chavez started exposing USA and their partner Israel.. Ever heard about the Petrodollar?
I grew up in Eastern Venezuela, particularly Anzoategui. We always had jokes about fish and beaches near Caracas. The beaches in other parts of the coast are better because of population density and the fact that La Guaira (which is state where the beaches you visited) had a massive landslide which damaged the coastline in the 1999 landslide. If you ever go back visit the other cities like Maracaibo, Maracay, Puerto La Cruz (my hometown), Ciudad Bolivar, and more. There are endless things to see. Thank you for your videos.
The state of the economy is sad to see. The people seem really cool, the food looks good, and it's absolutely beautiful. I pray one day Venezuela and it's people will prosper again.

@@TruthIsTheNewHate84 I recomend you consume other travelers in spanish and try to understand YT subtitles, the spanish content about venezuela is way better than those that go looking just for the gore. There are people going to venezuela one is "patrick viaja" but he's more active with shorts or IG, Also a colombian couple traveling in a caravan on venezuela currently "Isa por ahi", there are many others that done it, a guy from spain did it traveling on motorcycle "Charly Sinewan"... and so on. This guy content I thoug was very partial to the left, went looking for the gore of it, Caracas doesnt look like that at all, even a year ago, he went to the bad parts, and even close to caracas there are waaay better beaches than the ones he showed. Also unlike what he said in the video, Venezuelan oil was nationalized in 1976. Venezuela NEVER had a right goverment, since 1958 all presidents have been left or centerleft.
Nothing different between him and all the others. Yeah he was an architect before life hit him like a train and others were even poor before. You can totaly cry about a lot of those people but not just him b.c. he was something better?

Sad to see my friends and other people I know suffer in different ways because indeed it is the most richest and beautiful country in the world with almost unlimited resources as for mining or natural beauty.

At this point even if he wanted to quit, that would be a huge gamble. RUclips is his job and how he gets income. Also, his previous business ventures haven't been raging successes, (hint = bankrupt is in the name). Don't get me wrong, he's a very intelligent guy that's been wildly successful (at least on youtube) and could surely find some other outlet if he wanted to. But why would he? Exactly. There's 9 million people in Caracas. At least 8.999 million of them are just trying to live their lives and don't want to bother anybody. And half of them are nice and enjoy talking to an English guy who's wandering around their city.
I was in Venezuela in the 90's and visited some of the areas that at that time were "addressed" as dangerous; similar to what you have experienced, I met fabulous, cheerful and hospitable people, who made me feel like being home and always welcomed. Viva Venezuela!

The beach area Bald visited was badly destroyed in 1999 by a landslide, partially the reason why it's so abandoned, it's never picked up from there. Good to see my country is slowly becoming safer, not rich, not posh, but at least safe!
I was in Venezuela back in the late 90's near a town called Puerta la Cruz. The beach was clean but the water had an oily film to it and you had to wash it off your body when you got out of the water. The beach was located on a heavy oil tanker route used for international shipping.

Dude, I need to appreciate how easily you find your way around languages. I remember your wonderings in and about Russia, and you've been speaking like some foreigner who spent half his lifetime learning Russian. I was like, ok, maybe that dude has a history involving Russian, but now you say you just begun learning Spanish - and there you are fluently chatting on the streets. I mean, yeah, you're not discussing rocket science, but how easily you respond with meaningful answers. I've seen people unable to that fluency even in the easiest sentences after years of devoted studying.

WOW! Ben! I NEVER expected you to visit Venezuela. I've been watching all your other videos with delight; especially the one in Belarus where my parents are from. My parents migrated to Venezuela after WWII. They were prisoners in the Dachau, Germany labor camps. My parents barely survived. Long devastating sad story for some other time. My two oldest baby sisters were starved and poisoned. Tens of thousands of children and adults were murdered. We lived in Barquisimeto , Edo. Lara. In the 1950s and 60s, Caracas was a very affluent industrial beautiful place. I remembered vividly when my parents took my siblings and me to Caracas to visit friends. I wondered if they still have the huge Savoy chocolate sign? We noticed in the 60s Venezuela was becoming extremely unstable with constant revolutions so my parents decided to move to the States. Thank you so much for all that you have done, Ben. Your work is greatly appreciated. Saludos desde California . Cuidate bien.

Hey, Venezuelan here. I've been subscribed to this channel for many years. Happy to see you here. I can offer you some extra information and tips for your next trip to Venezuela: 1) I'd really suggest you to not use the word "malandro" to random people on the streets 😂. Something closer to this word in British slang would be "chav". Soo, imagine approaching a guy and telling/asking him "sup chav! / are you a chav??". Even If the dude is one, he is definitely not going to take it politely, since its often used as a discriminatory word to describe a specific stereotype; same thing with "malandro". 2) You can find places the country that looks like any other working country: with good services and appealing (e.g.: "Lecherías , anzoategui" or "Las mercedes, Caracas"), and you also have places that shows how bad the poverty in this country is. This is 'coz the difference between "rich" and "poor" is extremely pronounced in here. The social difference between the "haves" and "have nots" is extreme after all these years of awful government management, to a point where the middle class is almost non-existent. This is why you can encounter random modern and beautiful buildings close to others that looks like they are falling apart. (There is a good article from the BBC that speaks about this subject: www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-america-latina-64034920 ) 3) Venezuela is relatively safer than some years ago, but that only as long as you are close to big cities or outside of some "red zones" (dangerous places). This doesn't mean you are 100% safe in any city, but it's safer than other parts of the country. Be extremely careful when traveling outside the big cities or entering "red zones". Specifically, to zones that are controlled by "Pranes" (somewhat like a malandro gangster chief) or "Trenes" (Mafias / terrorist + criminal organizations). The place where you were in this video (Petare), is relatively safe: since it's not really neither outside the city, nor a red zone. 4) Careful about getting too much attention for extended periods of time in one place: As long as you are walking and not staying for too long in one specific place, everything is going to be fine. You don't want to bring a lot of attention in a single place, even if you are in a place where you think "nothing can happen to me here". 5) Careful with Venezuelan security forces (police, GNB, PNB, etc): Most Venezuelans don't trust them, there is a reason for it. I'd suggest you to not interact with them unless there is an actual need for it. 6) Everything in Venezuela is dollarized. No one uses the countries official currency anymore, (unless you need to pay taxes) People accept international cards, Zelle, and physical currencies. But be extremely careful with the currency exchange ratio. There are many currency exchange ratios, and most Venezuelans use some black-market websites ratios. This is extremely difficult to explain to anyone outside of the country, therefore I'd suggest you to just use the government official ratio (showed in : www.bcv.org.ve/ ). The official one is not a good ratio, thus some Venezuelans don't like to use it. Always double check which ratio people are using, coz people tend to have some scammy behaviours when using these ratios, to get a better deal for themselves. All this said, im looking forward for whenever you return! And i hope you enjoyed this short trip so far C: Cheers😀
When I travelled to Caracas almost 14 years ago, I lasted only 40 minutes in the city before being mugged at gunpoint by dos shady hombres - and this was during the day! Looking forward to watching this video!

This video showed me Venezuela and taught me some good things about it, you're extremely charismatic, you go with the actual locals in streets made for people and not tourists, you're absolutely great, this was the best move on your end learning Spanish, you've unlocked so much of the world for yourself now, think about going back to those videos where you were chewing coke leaves and walking around with a suitcase full of them in a suit in cartel areas, and the grandma warning you that "They burn people over there", I wonder just how different it would be now if you went back there with the new language skill you've acquired. Ben riding uphill on the back of a motorcycle - holding his camera steady in one hand, and a statue of a criminal in the other hand - using sheer confidence not to fall off the back. What a life. Edit: 32:06
I've been watching Ben since 4 years back or so, probably discovered him when he only had about 10-12 videos uploaded and he is still one of my favorite RUclips channels I know. The incredible feeling when he begins his videos with "join me!" and you know the video will be pure laughter (and sometimes tears) through the whole video, it's incredible the energy this man has, and still after all these years it's without sponsors that is showed on the screen, no begging for likes or subscribers and no begging for patreons or other ways of making money. Always genuine meetings with genuin people, almost never any fear from Ben of getting into uncomfortable situations (besides the time when he was invited to sing on stage in a rural village hahahha) and just bringing pure content. Fucking legend.
@@ruimarques7625 I mean, sure it could, but at the same time, as long as you keep calm and don't make a scene you can get out of most situations as long as the one you're arguing with isn't on coke or drunk af on alcohol.

I grew up in Eastern Venezuela, particularly Anzoategui. We always had jokes about fish and beaches near Caracas. The beach area Bald visited was badly destroyed in 1999 by a landslide, partially the reason why it's so abandoned, it's never picked up from there. Good to see my country is slowly becoming safer, not rich, not posh, but at least safe!
Thank u for the insight. Love your birthplace

He worked for MI6 😊
I'm pretty sure he's fluent in at least like 5+ languages. It's insane when you get to binge watching his videos.
@@WickedlyVickiwhat's the back story on this one?!
hm I don't think it's 5+ languages. Ben is good at Russian and Spanish, I remember he can speak some Hindi as well. Adding English to this list this will make it 4. Aside from these, I can't think of other language he can have a conversation in
he is the most confident, extrovert and inquisitive person i have ever seen. Thank you for the insights into the different (not very well known) cultures 👍
“Malandros are sleeping. 😂🤣 This video was so interesting and fun to watch. ✌️
This video not only educated me about countries I never considered, but encouraged me to continue learning Spanish ahead of my second vacation to northern Spain for a solo adventure. Good stuff Bald, inspiring your fellow world travelers and showing that all people everywhere are people like you and I
People in Venezuela who met Benjamin, were thinking "I don't know who this guy holding a statue of himself is, but he's a pleasant fellow!"😆
Just wanted to say that I think your solo videos are by far the best. If you were ever doubting about that. It forces you to communicate more with the locals. But you are also more approachable for locals if you are not walking in a group. Most of us like that about your videos. Have a nice day!
Yeah I agree. Being brutally honest he can come across a bit Douchy when he’s with Simon etc. Still funny but like there’s lots of good ‘groups’ on RUclips. What makes him completely unique is his personality and ability to connect with locals.
Hope he is safe travelling solo in some of these places 😅

Yes. Bald is actually one of the (many) reasons I left my last job. My new job rewards you for being KIND (I'm an RN). Things that should be basic are discarded, in every time.
WOW!
Wow, a Belarusian-Venezuelan-American, quite the mix you got going

You can thank Allied blockades of supplies toward the end of the war for mass starvation
@@MrCarGuy Yes. However, the Germans in the camps had plenty of food for themselves. When the war ended, the Allied found boxes full of can goods and a walk-in freezer full of food. The Allied came to free the camps at the end of the war when practically everyone was dead. Why not come before the war was over? Marching as if they were the heroes liberating the camps. They knew those camps were there and people were dying.
I am sometimes left speechless at how simply and beautifully Ben is able to give a voice to these ordinary people who have been cared for so little and frankly betrayed by all the people in power. Buying the kids chocolates and lighting smiles on people's faces by simply talking to them, sharing small joys everywhere he goes, Ben is a real world hero.

I feel sooo much for these people and I send them every blessing and wishes from my soul. I will keep them in my heart. Much LOVE from Sweden
I would rather walk around Caracas than parts of Sweden to be fair.
Hey, Venezuelan here. I've been subscribed to this channel for many years. Happy to see you here.
I can offer you some extra information and tips for your next trip to Venezuela:
1) I'd really suggest you to not use the word "malandro" to random people on the streets 😂.
(There is a good article from the BBC that speaks about this subject: www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-america-latina-64034920 )
3) Venezuela is relatively safer than some years ago, but that only as long as you are close to big cities or outside of some "red zones" (dangerous places).
No one uses the countries official currency anymore, (unless you need to pay taxes)
People accept international cards, Zelle, and physical currencies.
And i hope you enjoyed this short trip so far C:
Cheers😀
