- 🇲🇳 There aren't many countries as unknown and as mysterious as the one called Mongolia. All we know is the name Chingis Khan and nothing else pretty much. Well I wanted to fill in the blanks in my mind and travel to the vast remote country slap bang in the middle of Asia to see what it was like. And unlike the few other RUclipsrs who are had visited Mongolia and just ridden a horse or stayed in a tourist yurt, I was going to go to the mean streets of the cities and to meet the people. And, well, see for yourself what happened...
Cheers to backpacker ben for driving us around the country. Check out his channel @BackpackerBen
Special thanks to my friend Paul who lives in Mongolia and who took me under his wing when I arrived. Without his help I'd still not have a SIM card or had been able to hire a car. See you in the South of France mate 👍
Also thanks to Olivia 'Dogecoin' who took me to the worst transexual bar in Mongolia.

The name of the cafe, "41 Plus" is easy. It is one number short of "42" which is, as everyone knows, The Answer to the most important question in the universe (cit. A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). The cafe advertises itself as The Answer to everyone who passes by, especially if they are hungry or thirsty. They avoid infringing on inter-galactic trademarks with "41 Plus". There you are.

Plenty of ads.. 😂
So how does this guy make money?
Sorry guys I should have mentioned I pay premium you tube with no ads, my bad
The whole video was hilarious. I will explain some parts here if you did not understand any Mongolian language.
1. The very first old guy who seemed friendly and followed our Bald in the market was asking Bald money after his "helpful" tour around the market and insisting Bald use a bathroom, although, Bald did not need to as well as giving him some bodyguarding service. The old guy literally said, "I will go home now so give me 10,000 tugriks" in the end. 10,000 tugrik is around 3 bucks.
2. When Bald was in Baganuur city, or town as he was referring to, the lady was guiding Bald to her boss's room. She really thought Bald was there to see her boss. She was mumbling "I don't know if the boss is here" to herself and she finally brought Bald to the president of the city. The president looked truly confused haha.
3. Bald said it. "This place is more Soviet than the Soviet Union itself".
It kills me how many drunk Mongolian can possibly bug you and ask for money in Mongolia. Ben's friend in Darkhan was a typical drunk Mongolian guy that you can find almost everywhere. It was funny when they shouted c'mon together. He tried to talk bad about his wife but the amount of English he knows stopped him, luckily. I do feel sorry for him having that problem.
Thank you, Bald. I have seen quite interesting things in the video. It was kind of heartbreaking to see those youngsters, that Bald met in Darkhan, calling each other gay and homo in a clear insulting way. Dang that hotel was horrible. How come they don't even wash the bedsheets? The vodka bottles on the rooftop are common, though. Finally, here we go again. The drunken masters. Poor people... how happy they were after Bald and Ben gave them some money. The cash was around 6 bucks.
Thanks for shedding some light on the actions haha 👍👍This is easily one of the most chaotic Bald videos 😂

As a mongolian who speaks russian and english (and mongolian) I find this video very amusing as I understand both parties and their misunderstandings. And the many drunkards you met on the way is also quite a surprise to me as I don't go out much, I'm a introvert or as Mongolians would say 'zojig' and those drunk men scare me a lot but here you are giving money to them freely. Sure wish you'd have come to Ulaanbaatar, would have love to meet with you and talk cuz you've only ever met with those who speak broken English. Oh also, the town is not called moron it's murun which in mongolian basically means river, I'm guessing that was the Khalkhin river you visited and the parade was probably for the battle that took place there at the start or before ww2. That place means quite a lot for us, at least I believe so
How did you come to learn Russian? Do you live more north to the border? My experience in Mongolia very little people spoke fluent Russian

A thing I learn't when trying to speak the native language in more remote areas is that the locals are not used to hearing their language spoken with an accent, so it's extra hard for them when compared to people in more touristed regions.
Since English- and Russian-speakers seem scarce in Mongolia, Bald would REALLY benefit from an interpreter! I know Johnny FD has a Mongolian heritage but does he speak the language? Or are he and Bald not on good terms any more?
Yes, I experienced this in China. I eventually learned to speak just like a Chinese, and finally I was understood by everyone. There’s little space for a foreign accent, very unlike America or Europe.
When Bald and Ben reach Lake Khuvsgal, you can catch a glimpse at Mönkh Saridag, the highest mountains in the Sayan Mountains. The mountain ranges' snow melt and rain feed the waters of both Lake Khuvsgal and Lake Baikal. It's only about a 3 hour drive from Lake Khuvsgal to Lake Baikal, at their closest points, from Turt, Mongolia to Kultuk, Russia, passing through the lovely and mountainous Tunkinskiy National Park. Definitely a summer place. Bald and Ben came to the region a bit too early in the spring.
I have seen some motorcycle tour vlogs that passed through Mongolia and it is definitely stark but has a majesty of its own. It’s definitely on the bucket list but in the “nice to but unlikely” section! I probably lack these twos utterly fearless and adventurous spirits to get me there!😢

OMG, I grew up in Baganuur until I left Mongolia 20+ years ago. I've been to the administration building like once, and I don't remember it having a water fountain in the center. I've never been to the old Russian base; I always wanted to, but because I was little, I was never allowed. So, it is super cool to see what it looks like. Also, saw your comment defending the country, I appreciate that. BTW, i don't know if you noticed this (24:53 - 24:55), the lady showed much respect to you by putting one hand under the hand that handed you your change. Mongolians do this to show respect to their guests. You see that often when someone give you tea or airag mostly in the countryside or often during Tsagaan sar and Naadam.

@@Stolas1777I just rewatched it again, and to tell you the truth, I couldn't understand what he was saying bcs it seems like he doesn't have teeth, which makes it hard for him to speak properly. @@dariusbaja21 A couple in my walking group, all fully jabbed & still believe the narrative had COVID in January this year & still can't shake off feeling ill...😮 The don't know why....
If I had a penny everytime Bald was forced into a bathroom, I’d have two pennies. It isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.
And the last time it was with the Antichrist.
Wait, when was the first time? I think I missed that episode 😅
@@samdrow8268*I think the first time was when he was in Moldova a lady showed a toilet in a local restoraunt.* 😅
One could see the "invitation" to a toilet as a friendly gesture. At least when it's a clean one. 😆

Enjoyed that video great to see Mongolia
You're the best Ben..indisdisputable ...just one thing.....MORE ELAINA YOU'REA GREAT TEAM
Your banter, personality and furvent for life has made some of my most depressing days more tolerable. Thank you for bringing me some entertainment to get through some of the rough days. Salud mate.
Me as well. Out of all of the crazy things I’ve been through in my life, depression has been the worst! It’s very hard for me to put into words the way I feel when things are at their worst. Wish you the best. ✌️
@@Wilhelm4131 true. I’ve found that getting out and doing anything helps. Bipolar, PTSD, night terrors and who knows what else can take it out of you every once in a while. Take care.✋
Don't google furvert
@@AM-bf9tb two kinds of people 😂
It’s the same for me. Hitting kind of a rough patch right now, actually. Bald’s videos are like just a little bit of light in the darkness. Hang in there.
12:19 Running a red light (just as some poor pedestrians were crossing) in a black SUV with tinted windows and a dashboard full of cigarettes... Bald's Soviet heritage really showing here
The detail u saw in period of 2 3 sec....
Smasing 2nd time watching great filming and so amazing and beatifull in many way's
Man, ive always wanted to travel they way you do. I ran across your RUclips channel when i was looking at videos of eastern Europe.
I miss your trips in the Soviet countries. This was the closest experience to your old Russian videos. Thank you Benjamin! Спасибо тебе!
Mongols have typical arctic personality, low emotional intelligence, low social skill. Never kissing up, nor contempt for others. Extremely individualist culture. Finn kind of similar.
After a quite shitty week with many disappointments today i woke up with another Bald video and the sun started to shine again.. Thank you mister Bald for being more than a ray of sunshine for many people..☀
Genuine, unbiased content. Hard to find now a days. I find that we treat other cultures like they aren't people. We can learn so much just by meeting people in their own cultures. If you're smart most people aren't bad
Fabulously interesting channel wish I could have done the same tours when I was able
28:09 Bald you're a freaking legend. This was absolutely amazing.
I hope his wife becomes good.
His wife was cheating on him.
Different place same shit
@@hawallttibian2996 How do you know?
👍 me too. He looked like he was in pain. I thought he was trying to say his wife was sick & dying.
@Aaron Robinson he was hammered... people love their vodka there
Ben you have the most lovely interesting informative videos on all RUclips. You are truly an excellent ambassador to all nations. Bravo kind sir. Cheers from Utah USA 🫡
Good Morning, I came across your channel by accident. WOW! It is so informative, interesting. I have learnt so much from you guys. You are both so very gutsy! I would never have the tenacity and courage to achieve what you have done, Thank You.
I don't know, but it might be difficult to explain how a good ol' Bald and Bankrupt episode is just what the soul needs right now. It might be especially difficult to explain to someone who has never sat with one.
We understand

and when bald is with Johnny FD, bald is an entirely different person
