Yeah. I thought that was out of line. Britney was a victim of the industry so I can see why she's crazy. When I became an adult I look back at her and Christina's very sexual display so young. It was very inappropriate and the industry and parents failed stars like them.

Yeah, that was cringeworthy at best. Craig Ferguson has had his own problems, which probably accounts for his recognising someone else's struggle. He can be crass and ogle women with the worst of them, but I feel like even though he often makes me uncomfortable with that, he was in the vanguard of comedy shows capable of taking a step back and taking things seriously and not turning eveything into a joke. I think his audiences eventually realised that, but at that point it was probably utterly hardwired in people that everything a late show host says is a joke and everything is fair play for a joke.

Shes 16, and people blame their kids exposure to sexy content on the 16year old instead of the Manager/Producer/Video director/parents? Nvm the question how it's an artists Business to raise your Kid, to Put the responsibility on a Teenager? Which Teenager wouldnt say yes to her Baby on more time outfits and looking more "mature". I remember my mom telling me about the picture, saying that Miley was bad (because I liked Hannah Montana at the time), and I was just thinking, "So? It's not like her picture was gonna be seen on the show." Though being in elementary school at the time, I also didn't realize how icky it was that she was a minor when the picture was taken (probably because I was a little kid and thought of teenagers as basically being adults. Though I don't know how actual adults didn't realize how messed up it was.).
I still don't think it was right for my mom to use it to "prove" that Miley was "bad" though. It's the adults who are to blame.

Another example is Madison beer, people are so vocal about the mistreatment of Megan Fox just to do the same to Madison beer because people are projecting their insecurities on to her, because of how she looks and they are threatened by her looks. She kept trying to just get by and she tripped. Thankfully she caught herself because they just took pictures and no one tried to at least grab the baby. When she finally made it to the car, she was hugging him and sobbing because it's terrifying to have thosr kinds of close calls. Britney has been through so much and half of it could have been prevented if someone had loved the person more than the pop star.

I watched “Gentlemen Prefer Blonds” recently and, I’m slightly ashamed to say, was SHOCKED at Marilyn’s talent. Damn that woman could act! I was especially surprised at her comedic timing, which I thought rivaled the best of em (Lucile Ball, Fran D.). It’s heartbreaking she’s mostly remembered for her looks, cause she was 100% a triple threat.
Also Monica Lewinsky (I’m pretty dyslexic, I hope I spelled that right) has my UNDYING admiration and respect, cause that woman survived HELL and came out with a badass sense of humor and her empathy intact. Surviving would’ve been enough, but she went above and beyond

You are so right about Marilyn. She was crazy serious about her acting, she would arrive on set first and stay the longest, she would spend hours in front of a mirror perfecting her facial expressions, she would have anxiety attacks before filming because she was putting herself under so much pressure to do her best.... yet people still think she relied solely on her looks. You should check out Niagara or Don't Bother To Knock. Both movies are thrillers and show that she not only had a talent for comedy, but could also play the femme fatale!

Mariah in that interview is legendary. So polite, but so not giving in to Rosie's misogyny. She just said Britney was a nice girl , which is demonstrably true - she is a very sweet person. People always call Mariah a diva and a bitch and whatnot, but she was very compassionate in that moment and did what I would probably do if I were in a situation where there would be serious consequences to fully calling out the comments. Yep. Mariah is a diva, we know that. But we can't take out her respect when another woman is involve.
Everyone laughs at her "I don't know her" meme, but I'd rather prefer her ignoring the competition than falling in the "i would tarnish every women/men that MAY represents an obstacle in my path" that the media and society loves so much.

What really freaks me out the most is the publicity teams. They're professionals who FULLY curate the image of the person. They managed to write the narrative that he is just a poor boy who keeps getting screwed over by these nasty women! Meanwhile, Britney's team was fully on board with the Britney is crazy narrative because it was getting her more press. They were overworking her when she was obviously unwell. Janet's team could have prevented that issue, but they let it happen because they thought it would generate more buzz (def a swing and a miss on their part). The publicists know what is going to get the media in a tizzy, and they put women in these positions even if it comes at a massive cost to their health or career.

One of the things I find ironic is that these women weren't just mistreated by men and the industry but also by other women. Monroe, Britney, Miley, Taylor and many others got slut shamed constantly by other women, Kim Kardashian leaked an edited video of Taylor and Kanye's call that made Tay disappear from the media for a year. Not just that, Kim was okay with her husband showing a naked Taylor lookalike in his music video and him chanting 'I made that B famous' in his concerts. Yael, ex wife of Scooter Braun, defended her husband when he sold Taylor's masters without her knowledge.
Look how Amy Poehlar and Tina Fey made misogynistic comment about Taylor. I saw lots of women complain that Taylor dates a lot but those same woman see Leonardo Dicaprio as a heartthrob even with his questionable love life. Crissy Teigan slut shamed Courtney Strodden on Twitter, even told them to kill themselves. Teigan apologized after all these years only because she was called out.
I can go on about it but my point is these women were also the victims of 'internalized misogyny' amongst other things. That's even sadder.

It’s so scary how most of these big Hollywood stars were pushed out in their late 20’s or early 30’s. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s around that the human brain finishes developing at 25 or 26 which would make them more difficult to manipulate and control. People criticize Lupita Nyong'o for going back to school and then seriously pursuing acting at age 30 but that’s probably the best way to do it. It also shows how much patriarchy overlaps with pedophilia, the media wants children and teenage girls who they can manipulate and sexualize and then blame and punish for their own sexualization

by taking a closer look at her music you'll find she writes stories about her family, love life and struggles she's faced in the industry. many songs that helped her rise to fame like "Tim McGraw", "You Belong With Me", "Love Story", "22", and "Blank Space" were NOT dissing her exes. reducing taylor swift's career to be entirely dependent off of her exes, and reducing her as a human being to just a "crazy woman that defames men🤬🤬🤬" falls under the exact misogynistic narrative that this video is talking about.

You can tell how much people did not care when they laughed at anna nicole's death and for him, a male comedian, to very firmly say "why are you laughing, this is awful and serious" was a huge difference to many other similar male comedians, especially in the 2000's when it felt like misogyny and making fun of women for existing was the norm. I remember being a young, afab kid in the early 2000's seeing all of this, and genuinely not understanding why people were so mean to brittney spears or why they were so mean to this pretty blonde lady but having it hammered home that the correct thing was to hate them. truly the early 2000's was awful for young women.

Madison Beer's situation, especially in the last few years, is so perplexing to me because we're in an era of calling out the media and public's treatment of young female stars while also continuing the cycle on a young female star. Especially since the current Megan Fox renaissance has so many people actively apologising to Megan and calling out how badly the public treated her only to do the exact same things to Madison in real-time.

    • @dreamyanon5151

They aren't genuine in apologizing to Megan, it's only because Megan has been forced to make herself unthreatening and she is older so "less threatening. Madison, young and beautiful, is still a threat. People haven't changed and the jealousy for Madison is just masked to be moral since as a more enlightened culture they don't want to admit that they have these feelings.

It wasn't until a few years later that I realized how awful that actually was, because I thought about how male musicians like Prince were pretty much praised for being with so many women. I'm still not really a fan of Taylor's music, but she must be a pretty cool person if she's had a couple of partners. She deserves so much better than how she's treated by the media.
