33:15 I adore Marilyn’s Orange dress in GPB it’s so timelessly glamorous, I didn’t know that she wore it multiple times outside of filming tho I did recently find out she also wore Orange lipstick (Erin Parsons-also on RUclips collects her makeup from auctions. One of her frequently worn shades was swatched from an exact dupe on camera along with an actual pic of Marilyn wearing it and it reveals that the color is straight up pumpkin orange rather than a ruby red which many thought was the original shade) I guess she really did have a thing for orange 🍊 🧡

While historically inaccurate, the orange dress from Cleopatra is one of the more stunning ensembles Elizabeth Taylor wore. And the Zuël dress from Ghostbusters had a lasting impression giving off an ethereal occult vibe .
Hattie in ella enchanted is definitely and orange dress ill never forget. It being such and loud and boastful color in the otherwise fairly mute/pastel color design of the rest of the film is genuinely one of my favorite things about it. :) It works well for her character and clashes just enough against the rest of Hatties looks (not to mention it being the opposit color of blue on the color wheel symbolizing her opposit nature to Elle) is amazing.

(Fun fact: she is about 4 months pregnant with Liza Minnelli in this scene and her dress doesn't quite conceal it so if you look closely you can see both Judy and baby Liza on camera LOL) Nadine Hale (Ann Miller) - yellow and black dance dress in Easter Parade for the showstopper "Shaking the Blues Away". Not sure how I forgot Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Animated or live action version worn by Emma Watson.
The 2005 P&P wasn't set during the regency period though. Joe Wright hated the empire silhouette (same dude same) and so found a way around it by setting it during ~1792, when Austen had first started the novel. Caroline Bingley actually wears a few empire waist dresses to show that she's a fashion-forward upper class city gal as opposed to the middle-class Bennet ladies who happened to live in rural England, therefore also getting the new styles later than London (not to mention again that this is set before the regency era). What rounds up this time period decision even more is that it also gave the Bingleys another reason for why they would try to mix with the rural society even though they had no connection to Meryton apart from renting Netherfield Park: the French Revolution had just happened/was happening and they didn't want to get guillotined by the middle/working class were they were to also take up arms against the rich.
I know it's not a "real" dress, but for yellow I don't think you can really get around Belle's dress from animated Beauty and the Beast movie. It's telling how mad people were at the remake. The original one is iconic and honestly, imo, it deserves to be on the yellow list, even if it's drawn

I’m so happy you included Marilyn’s orange dress! People never talk about that dress when discussing her iconic looks but I honestly think it’s one of her best and it perfectly contrasts Jane Russel’s navy dress in that same scene.
Hard to tell where the dress is red or orange or both, there was even a purple hue in one edit. Although confusing, that dress Madhubala wore from Mughal-e-Azam is my personal favorite along with Marilyn’s Gentlemen prefer Blondes dress. It was the first time I ever heard of her, and when the first song came of hers came I was mesmerized. Her looks and Nigar Sultana as well are everything in that movie.

My absolute favorite yellow dress has to be the one that Grace Ferrell wears in 1982’s Annie. It’s the first time we see her wear something that isn’t completely structured or business-centered, and allows her to freely move as she pleases. It’s a turning point in her character arc in the movie musical that is very clear-cut. The yellow and the lightness of the dress as she twirls and dances shows off how completely elated she is to know that they get to spend their lives with Annie. And I’ve been wanting that dress ever since I saw it.

Thinking on the iconic dress being incinerated is sad. But thinking about how harmful it was for her to be exposed like that to go and burn the dress is devastating.
also call me basic but for yellow dresses you can't miss kate hudson's how to loose a guy in 10 days. every 2000s girlie wanted that moment when she comes out of her apartment building in that dress
If I could direct your attention to the czech 1973 movie musical “Noc na Karlštejně” (A night at the Karlstein), I think you would enjoy the heavily stylised costumes, and the “pages” (meaning the castle living, wine pouring and sword carrying kind) costumes are orange colourblock perfection.
Came back to give a shout out to the orange Bob Mackie dress Vicki Lawrence wore on the Carol Burnett. Just saw it in the recent 90th birthday special and obviously not an iconic cinematic dress, but holy cow! What an orange dress!

absolutely love the under the tuscan sun dress. it's the scene where she realizes her dreams at the start of the movie come true, and we feel her self possession and contentedness - a rare representation we get for older, single, and childless women characters
Can We take a moment to admire Rose's Dinner Dress in Titanic! Love that burnt orange color hidden under all the lace net details! Perfect for Edwardian Couture, my guess is Lucile!
For my pick of Orange dress - i will pick the orange saree Raveena Tandon wore in Tip Tip barsa paani. It's a sexual song and she in that orange saree in the rain symbolising the sexual flame is just iconic
My favorite yellow dresses are the yellow kimono from Memoirs of a Geisha, where Chiyo makes her debuts as a maiko under her new name Sayuri, and the yellow dress Cameron Diaz wore in My Best Friend’s Wedding. And Belle’s dress in the animated Beauty and the Beast, even though it is more of a gold. And some of the dresses in Mirror Mirror.
Marilyn's/ Abby's dress is the only orange dress from cinema that came to mind before I watched this. While it's sad that the dress was destroyed, in an era where women had so little control over their public image it was pretty badass of Lincoln to burn it, making a decisive move in how she was depicted.
Yellow dresses always remind me of Edith Cushing's entire wardrobe in Crimson Peak. Other yellow favorites: Eowyn's dress in Return of the King, Danielle's first countess dress in Ever After, and Lady Lyndon dress in Barry Lyndon.
I love all your commentary on dresses and fashion. But if you could try to pronounce asian peoples names better it would be much appreciated. As someone from Bangladesh, people not properly pronouncing our names is quite disrespectful. Even at the least, please try to pronounce the names right.

You covered so many of my favourite characters and costumes! Lorelei, Queen Sybilla, Lucilla, Maid Marion, Caroline Bingley - I'm thrilled! Great to learn about the context for the costumes and their narrative symbolism. I also wrote down a few new films to watch! ✨🌙✨
I love orange, it's a happy beautiful color. But Alex MC Queens creations are ridiculous. I simply cannot understand the hype over Alex, MC Queen, he's got to be the worst fashion designer this side of Area 51.
One of orange dresses I remember is one short dress from Soviet film "Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Profession", it's simple but very stylish, combinated with striped red-and-white shirt under it and with red flower pin. Also, the orange dress of the Queen from Mirror Mirror is a great example (sad it wasn't noticed in the video).
The orange dress that Scarlet wore with a purple sash at the first of the weddings in Four Weddings and a Funeral instantly came to mind. Gareth: Scarlotta! Fabulous dress. The ecclesiastical purple and the pagan orange symbolizing the mystical symbiosis in marriage between the heathen and Christian traditions? Scarlett: That's right
If you do yellow I'd look at the yellow dress worn by our female lead In "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days". When she attends the ball she wears a beautiful yellow dress. I think that is overlooked in most compared films.
Kingdom of Heaven has some of the most historically accurate costumes and details in any biopic I've seen. Sure, there are some mistakes and artistic choices, but the amount of research and thought put into this movie is mindblowing and refreshing, whether for the Crusaders or the Muslims ! Underrated film and one of my favorites
37:46 I wholeheartedly agree about the dress being destroyed, but nowadays nobody has respect for historic people or attire. Because of recent events with one of Marylin dresses I believe if that iconic orange dress was around today it would’ve been bought, sold and ruined by disrespectful celebrities or clientele
Tiana's dark orange causal dress from The Princess and the Frog is the only other orange dress I liked in a movie. Tiana wore this dress when she got the key to the abandoned building she wanted remodel into her restaurant. The dark orange color is perfect for remodeling an old building.
I don’t know if it technically counts as a dress, but Noxema Jackson’s two piece orange fringe ensemble from Too Wong Foo is iconic! Especially against Wesley Snipes deep melanin skin!!!

Yellow dresses that you have to include in the next video! 💛⭐️🌻🌙🍋🍯
Obviously Andy’s dress in how to lose a guy in 10 days
Belle’s dress in beauty and the beast
Cher outfit in clueless
Queen Elizabeth in Elizabeth the golden age
Mia in La La land
Latika in slumdog millionaire
I don't know if it falls into orange or yellow or just straight gold, but I will always be absolutely obsessed with Barbara Streisand's dress in Hello Dolly.
Alot of Indian actresses wear orange 🍊
I am grateful for the diversity in your videos. Firstly, Aishwarya Rai on your background made me subscribe and now MUMTAZ's ICONIC TIER WRAP SAREEE gets a mention. Thank you on behalf your Indian Audience.
So thrilled to see The Court Jester getting some love and recognition! ❤
The pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestel
@@GB-kv6dl And the chalice with the palace has the brew that rings true
The Bollywood representation, omg!!
felicity’s orange crochet dress in austin powers!! that dress is so beautiful and i dream of being able to make it
Omg I’ve been binging these!!!! One of the best series on RUclips!! I love how much you go into fashion and Hollywood history, so educational and interesting🙏plz we need more
Lucilla in Gladiator was absolutely ungodly in beauty, the orange makes her skin glow like the sun 😭
Consider Glenn Close's yellow dress in Dangerous Liasions for the next video. It's stunning
Can you make a video about best wedding dresses in cinematic history maybe?😁
I love the focus on history and historical dress in these videos! This one was particularly good and unexpected. Idk why but orange just doesn’t come up as an iconic color often so I’m glad you gave it a spotlight 🧡
absolutely love the under the tuscan sun dress. it's the scene where she realizes her dreams at the start of the movie come true, and we feel her self possession and contentedness - a rare representation we get for older, single, and childless women characters
And some of the dresses in Mirror Mirror.
speaking of bollywood, the dress in the song "dont touch me" from dhoom 2 was amazing
Marilyn's/ Abby's dress is the only orange dress from cinema that came to mind before I watched this. While it's sad that the dress was destroyed, in an era where women had so little control over their public image it was pretty badass of Lincoln to burn it, making a decisive move in how she was depicted.
Yellow film outfits: Cher’s yellow suit in Clueless, The Bride’s Yellow fighting outfit in Kill Bill
Mumtaz was such a beauty. I didn't know that Bhanu Athaiya had won an Oscar
although not a film, kate orange dress from bridgerton is soooo beautiful
As always, I’m amazed by how deep and wide your knowledge of fashion film history is!
I commented this last time but it deserves to be said again. Orange is such an underrated colour, and it's my favourite one by far!
padme wears an orange dress under the red robe when she addresses the senate in star wars episode 1 ICONIC
Yellow dresses always remind me of Edith Cushing's entire wardrobe in Crimson Peak. Other yellow favorites: Eowyn's dress in Return of the King, Danielle's first countess dress in Ever After, and Lady Lyndon dress in Barry Lyndon.
sooo glad you included the court jester. NO ONE knows about that movie and that dress is just absolutely gorgeous!!!
You’re absolutely right about Mumtaz’s orange saree….it’s iconic 🧡✨
I love all your commentary on dresses and fashion. But if you could try to pronounce asian peoples names better it would be much appreciated. As someone from Bangladesh, people not properly pronouncing our names is quite disrespectful. Even at the least, please try to pronounce the names right.
Buttercup's dress in the Princess Bride was awesome and I think a great choice for basically her only outfit for most of the film
sorry to be a nerd 😄 i cannot help but say, Onegin is pronounced with a hard N, and Tatiana Larina's last name is pronounced LArina! ✨
I love your channel so much! The Orange dress from Bram Stoker's Dracula that Sadie Frost wears is absolutely stunning - as is all the film wardrobe designed by Eiko Ishioka.
When I think of iconic yellow dresses I think of Belle. The ANIMATED Belle 😉
Love your videos.. Olivia Newton John’s SANDY OLSSON YELLOW DANCE DRESS in the Movie GREASE.
I too thought many of Jasmine's outfits was a bit tacky (beautiful colors), especially the jewelry; it looked very fake.
For me, Beyonce's orange two-piece from Austin Powers immediately comes to mind, but I guess it doesn't technically qualify since it's not a dress
Can’t wait for green! It’s my favorite color. My top picks for it would be Aronement and Portrait of a Lady on Fire
I don’t know if it technically counts as a dress, but Noxema Jackson’s two piece orange fringe ensemble from Too Wong Foo is iconic! Especially against Wesley Snipes deep melanin skin!!!
