That was by far the most informative video I have seen associated with installing the BenQ LK936ST. Fabulous information associated to the custom resolution settings. Extremely impressed with that aspect of your video. Extremely well done.
Thank you very much, I am glad it helped you! Also, thanks a ton for the $25! You really didn't have to do that, the fact the video helped you out is more than enough for me! I will make sure we add you in the giveaway wheel for some of the items we have coming up!
No camera can capture how great these or other projectors look in person . I have a Viewsonic 749 and its awesome at 1/4 of the price and trust me it looks just as good .
Love the video! I'm thinking of getting this projector and also have a 4:3 screen. Is the image 4k at 4:3 aspect ratio? Also can you please tell me what happens when you watch a movie or netflix on the projector via the pc and via an Amazon firestick, Apple Play or something similar connected to the projector? Does it still stay in a 4:3 image or does it change to e.g. 16:9 and if so does the 16:9 image remain the same width with the black bars appearing above and below? Lastly, if this happens, does the movie also stay/change to 4k? I'm asking all these as I'd like to be certain before splashing the cash on this.
Hello, It won't be full 4k since you are trimming pixels on the width, but that works the same if you get a 1080p and run it 4:3. The image looks fantastic even with the cropping! I have a Apple 4k TV hooked up to mine and can either switch the projector to 4:3 and watch it like that, or watch it in widescreen and use the built in rezizing which leaves the bars above and below.
Would love this in my garage setup but can't justify the price tag for a little better resolution. Mine currently "upscales" haha to 4k and its good enough for me. Great video!
Great video. I look forward to your comparison video between the Ben Q and Optoma GT 1090 HDR (which I currently own). I'm not to happy with the colors of the Optoma. The upscaling to 4K with Nvidia DSR doesn't look any better than 1080p on GS Pro. I am hoping the BenQ will solve all these issues.
I have this projector and it is awesome, had for about a year and love it. My screen is 120H X 144W I can get the width to work out fine but have at least 8 inches top and bottom not covered. I have ALIENWARE gaming laptop as well and screen is 4K. Tried this method and did not workout for me any suggestions for my screen size, I have tried everything and searched and searched for help. TY
If the height isn’t filling vertically, your projector is likely to close and needs to move back further until the height is filled, the adjust the width with your graphics card.
Do you still have the foam pad behind the screen? Wondering because Carls Place told me not to do it…..said it would damage the screen long term. Thanks. Great videos!
After I switched to the new Carl’s Place c-series design a few months ago the bounce back was seriously improved so I no longer felt the need to add extra bounce back protection. I used the mattress pad for over a year and didn’t have any issues but I would go with manufacturer recommendation.
I also have a vaulted ceiling, what mount did you use? Also my main question is if I have a 16:10 screen but this projector is 16:9 will the throw distance be based on 16:9? To match the height or would it be 16:10?
Projector mount should be linked in the description. You’ll want to use the BenQ sim planner tool and select your screen height, that will give you the distance from the screen you need. Feel free to contact us on our site if you need more help.
Per BenQ, because you’re essentially moving the lens with the adjusters manually, it does not. The digital correction like keystone and digital zoom will.
Great video; thanks! I'm having issues extending the display to my projector screen from my computer. Trying to extend my monitor display to the projector, instead of duplicate it, like you mentioned doing if monitors are 1080p and projector is 4k. When I duplicate to the projector, all works fine (other than that I can't get 4k, which is what I'm trying to fix). But when I extend to the projector, it won't show the screen other than the taskbar. The rest of the screen is blank. Do you know how to extend when you have two monitors on the computer and want to extend the main one to the projector to get 4k capability?
@@PixelGolf I ended up just purchasing a 4k monitor. But when I go to the NVDIA graphics card the "customize" button is greyed out, so it won't let me create a custom resolution. Any idea why?
I have a very similar sized setup, but only 9 foot ceiling height. What height is your projector mounted? Is it just 88 inches above the ground as shown on the benq planning tool example? And about 18 inches behind the ball position?
Hello, Mine is actually 100" from the ground as visually the 88" looked a bit odd... I used the vertical lens shift to make up for the added height though!
The Carls premium screen is very thick. I would get the blackout cover if you wanted to improve image quality, but it’s not necessary unless you get a lot of light behind the enclosure.
Per manufacturer recommendation and testing, digital correction such as keystone and 3”4 corner adjustment as well as digital shift and zoom degrade the image quality. They are there as a last resort if you just can’t mount the projector in an appropriate place.
@PixelGolf Hmm, I read the lk936st manual, and it didn't mention anything about that.. I would think using a native 16:9 projector in any other resolution would decimate image quality more than some keystone correction 🤔
The manual doesn’t mention that, but that info was straight from the horses mouth. BenQ strongly recommended as little digital correction as possible as it will degrade the image quality over the manual lens shift.
I ain’t sure about anyone else but it will not let me make a custom resolution. I have a new acer gaming laptop with nvidia ge force 4050. It won’t let you do a custom resolution of any kind. I’ve been trying to find an answer to this question on why it won’t let you.
Interesting… I would call Nvidia customer support and see if there is something enabled preventing this and report back. Please let everyone know what you find. I will do my research as well and let you know if I find a solution.
That's awesome! I wish I could afford one at my own home sim as they use these projectors at the place that I play league golf every week and it is sooooo much better than the Optoma 2000hdr that I have. Great video!

Thank you, that is very much appreciated as these videos are very time consuming to do😂
Wow. I learned a ton in this video thanks. My project is almost the same size
Best video I've seen I bought the 936st, and have been lost in the setup . Thank u

I hear ya… the price difference is substantial and the Optoma does have great brightness. Movie watching is a lot better on the benq though!
Thanks!

I’m hoping to shoot it soon! The Gt1090hdr is great for what it is though, but the BenQ is definitely amazing, especially watching 4k movies!
Great video! Will you be selling your optoma projector?
Thank you! I will most likely be selling. I still need to do a video comparison of the two, but will likely unmount and sell after.

Hello, I believe you need to go into the software and select the right monitor and close then reopen, if I'm understanding correctly...

HI I'm after the rolex clock which you have on your wal for my home simulators, can you purchase these from a site your did you make it yourself,
Hello, I made it myself. It was a very tedious process, but worth it in the end!
Would a white or black sheet behind the screen offer an enhancement for projector image quality? Thanks
The Carls premium screen is very thick. I would get the blackout cover if you wanted to improve image quality, but it’s not necessary unless you get a lot of light behind the enclosure.
@@PixelGolf thanks I took a chance and ordered black sheets yesterday. Thanks!
Okay, be careful with materials. You don’t want that black to potentially bleed onto the screen.
Can you get BenQ to send me one too?
😂
I wish I had that kind of pull🤣 We’re definitely very thankful they reached out to our small channel.
I just got a computer with 16 Ram rtx 3070 will this work with this projector?
It will work, but you’ll likely not get full FPS on max settings, depending on the software.

As soon as I’m done filming a video comparing them both, I will be selling it.
