These are my favorite types of video content from you!! I get so many ideas! I also have a college freshman, and, I have bookmarked your college essentials video. I can’t rave enough about the IKEA bags. They are a lifesaver, also for my own use at home. I store artificial stems, garlands and flowers for future use in those bags. I also bought Ruggables, based on your recommendation! Thank you Marnie!!

This quarantine is definitely bringing out the decluttering, organizing and donating. Our homes are going to be unrecognizable post lock down. But it’s been nice to have so much time and hubs help to really go through everything! Now to wait for donating places to open back up. So we can get our garage back. 🤭

I have a ton of space in my pantry, but it’s really deep like yours. So, it’s turned into a catch all for other weird stuff in my house, almost like another junk drawer! I love the idea of putting in lazy susans or some kind of pull-out solution. You’ve given me some great ideas, thank you!

We have a pantry with pull-out shelves, & it was one of our best decisions when we remodeled 21 years ago. It makes that area so much easier to manage.

Yes for sure. When we bought our house. All the kitchen cabinets were like that. Including the pantry. It’s so amazing! I especially love it in the lower cabinets! Not so much awkward bending to get something out of them. Will come in handy as we age. We are definitely looking into doing that in the bathroom cabinets.

It's lovely to have a pantry - I would take out the shelves that are currently front to back, and put in shelving on the sides, so that you can walk in. That's what I did, and it still gives lots of storage, just easier to see everything.

I just want to say thank-you for being so real & sharing your “space” with all of us! That’s what I like about you, you are genuine, not put on like some perfect person. I love your ideas and of course your dogs! I agree not to put too much money into the house yet. Wait & see what the next year or two looks like. Boys typically leave the nest & never return (I have 2 grown sons) but with this change in our lives recently, one just doesn’t know what the future holds.

  • @kimberleeMP

Yes Marnie Yes....LOVE this video as I’m currently also in the process of trying to organize my clutter. I like you also have a very small “pantry” space so I have been dividing areas for each person. One shelf is dedicated to personalized items in which I use baskets to separate items. One for myself and one for each kid...because I’m gluten sensitive so I have a lot(not all) gluten free items so that’s mainly what’s in my basket. My daughter who’s 13 is currently trying to be more plant based so that’s what’s in her basket and my son who’s 10 and will eat ANYTHING has regular snacks in his. And it helps because I can see what we’re using so I know if I should replace or try something else. One shelf is breakfast/lunch items....grab and go type. Like poptarts, bars, individual wrapped things, pancake mix, oatmeal, dried fruit and nuts. One shelf has canned and jarred goods, rice and pastas. Another has potatoes, onions, condiments and my oils. Then the bottom has water, juice, and whatever stored gadgets like crockpots and pans I use often. I also have things in bins and yes it takes up some space so I can’t stock up as much as I’d like but it’s a lot more organized and I KNOW what I have and what I don’t so it’s a lot easier when it comes to shopping to keep track of what I actually need to get. I’m not buying the same things but I’m not sure what’s in there. I know your “boys” won’t be there much longer but they’ll always come home so it won’t hurt to keep a space or just one cabinet always for them. Hope this helps some. Hope you do an update soon on what you decided!! ❤️💞❤️😘

The bins can work well if you pull them up flush to the edge of the shelf and use the area behind for overstock. For example, I store cartons of broth behind my can organizers.

Five years ago we did a total kitchen remodel and we worked with someone who helped us design the kitchen and it turned out great. Fast forward to now and I have new and improved ideas for yet another smaller update but we aren't sure how long we are staying in the house so I hate to spend the time and money making changes. I think you have done a great job! I love many of the organizing bins you found and might have to buy a few for myself.

I love the “snack cabinet”....I laughed because I have one too; my sons are 21 and 18.....and I feel like I’m feeding a herd of wild water buffaloes; I can hardly keep it stocked!!
(my 23 year old daughter is gluten free so she has her own cabinet too; but she’s most likley moving out soon, so I’ll get my cabinet back lol 😊)
And may I talk about Rowdy squeezing into the bathroom and hitting the door stopper...😂😂😂...I laughed for a good few minutes! The look on his face was priceless! 😂
My life is all about the organizing bins. 😊 I gotta get me some of those clear lazy susans; thank you for mentioning M Design!
Ps) use the narrow clear containers in the fridge to hold yogurts, or onions, or oranges, or whatever...I have one in there and it definitely helps!

Hi Marnie! I was definitely in the same situation couple of years ago no matter what I do I couldn't keep up with organizing my pantry until I started to consolidate everything I have. Now it is definitely so much more manageable and I know on top of my head the inventory of all items I have in it. When I open my pantry I can see everything and it is much more manageable and most of all I am not wasteful anymore. Consolidate and keep things to a minimum, you will feel so much better;)

I love all of your new clear organizational containers! To give a more organized “look” in my pantries and storage closets the first thing I do is remove the exterior packaging/boxes/containers from most of my items. Firstly, it helps decrease waisted packaging space and allows me to control the shape of the area each item resides in. Secondly it reduces all of the busy marketing patterns that clash with each other making the small storage space look cluttered. Lastly it allows me create specific spaces for items, so that when I need to make a shopping list I can easily see what is missing and needs to be replaced. An added bonus at the moment is that I don’t have to “clean” packaging when we get items from the store, I just immediately remove the outer unsterile packaging and dispose of it in the recycling bin in our garage. Please do a follow up when you figure out what works for you.

Hi Marnie, I thought the bins were a wonderful idea to keep everything organized in your pantry. The Lazy Susan makes things easy to get to when you need them for your cooking and baking. When my mom passed away we moved to the home I grew up in. I have so many wonderful memories of my mom and I talking and doing dishes together I didn't want to change the footprint of the kitchen. We ended up getting quartz countertops by Cambria in the color called Berwyn and we bought new Shaker doors for the kitchen cabinets (we kept the cabinet frames). We added more cabinets because I had all my kitchen stuff and also my mom's. We then painted all the cabinets white in a color called Swiss Coffee. We used the Kelly Moore paint that is semi gloss and you can clean it. My husband put in crown moulding above the cabinets and it looks pretty. My husband wants to put in drawers in the pantry so I can pull them out to get to things. Someday that will happen, but those clear bins look like a good idea until then. Thanks for the fun video. Your new rugs are beautiful. Your home is lovely and of course your dogs are so adorable. xoxo, Karen

It looks great and you have wonderful ideas! I’m constantly trying to find tricks myself since I live in a small one bedroom apartment. I’m always trying to find ways to go vertical...stacking things on risers, using behind the door organizers, etc. I do have a top to bottom organizer for my pantry door which has been one of my best purchases. I also use under the shelf hanging baskets. Can’t wait to see your transformation!

If you don't already watch/listen to/read the books of Cassandra the ClutterBug; I'd so highly recommend her. She started out organizing people's homes and learned that people have different styles of organization that work best for them (macro vs micro organization, and visual simplicity vs abundance, respectively). She is an absolute delight to listen to, is very down to earth, and helps you figure out not only what is going to work best for you, but what you can easily MAINTAIN! Or how to combine styles within a family unit. Honestly, the quality of my life in general has improved thanks to her. All the best to you!

I think all of us are doing the same kind of organizing during this time, and I’m still trying to figure the best system for myself too. I’ve gotten some of the lazy Susan’s in a large and a smaller size, and I love them just as you do. I’ve reorganized my pantry several times over the past few years, and just like your kids snack cabinet, it’s a mess again in short order. I’ve come to realize that it’s just like vacuuming or dusting or dishes. It doesn’t stay done. I have to really keep on top of it.

I have a large double door deep pantry in my kitchen. It's only my husband and I. I went to BB and B and I bought the largest white turn tables. I then went to Walmart and bought glass different sizes of mason jars with the white lids to match. I organized all the food in the jars onto the turn tables. I don't like the plastic OXO because they scratch and look very dirty to me. I like to wash my jars in the dishwasher between filling. On one shelf I had several baskets to store the food that needs to be in there container. I buy mostly fresh vegetables so I have very little cans. I only buy what I need for 2 weeks at a time so my pantry stays neater. Your pantry is smaller but you can buy less at a time and it will be easier for you to see your items. Less waste too.

I think you don’t give yourself enough credit Marnie, you are pretty organized already! Clear bins, lazy Susan’s and stacking shelves are great to organize the shelf space, but you also have the back of the door which could be used. You can get great pantry door racks with adjustable shelves that can help liberate the shelves and makes everything super accessible 😀 I see you already have some racking and baskets on the back of the door, but there is probably more you could do by mounting even 2 more tiers to the back of the door and reorganizing what goes in those baskets

I’m lucky to have the huge walk in pantry, but still have to make an effort to keep it organized. I find that taking items like protein bars and snacks out of the boxes and into bins/baskets keeps it looking great. It becomes the grab and go station. So i have at least one shelf that is just the healthy snacks for kids and the family to be able to access heathy options on the go. I also like the xoxo clear containers for all my baking essentials like flour, sugar etc. Those containers are worth the expense because they keep your items fresh and make a nice display. I also keep my variety of pastas in the clear containers.
Thanks for the college moving tip on using the IKEA bags, going to order those. Would like to hear how you are getting the college kid stuff organized and fitting all that dorm/apt. stuff back into the house or maybe it just stays in storage? Ugh, getting ready to move my college Sr home in a few weeks and preparing for the adjustment of having adult kid back at home. Any tips or helpful advice you have for us on that topic would be amazing. His old bedroom has been my home office and I’m going to soon be trying to create a makeshift office space for myself once he’s back home and needs his room back.

Hi Marnie! I am a professional organizer. First and foremost, you are more organized than you think you are! Grouping like things together, placing items in the area where you use them. Also, please give yourself a break! The only spaces that stay organized are the ones we never use! First things first, pull everything out of the cabinet you want to focus on, get rid of the expired stuff and the things you know'll you'll never use. Group like things together and see what you can combine things. When you start putting things back, think about what you use the most, those items get the prime real estate. The lesser used items can be a little further out of reach. Good luck and have fun!

I have a pantry about that size. It’s crazy for a house this size. I do use some baskets and such for corralled items. I also use some of our laundry room for additional pantry space.

Your upper corner cabinet, I installed a wood “Rev-a-shelf” cabinet lazy susan. It has a pole in the middle and you can add as many shelves as you need. I bought mine on amazon, but Home Depot have them also. You need to measure the interior, I love it.

Marnie, What a great job of organizing....you have inspired me (I have been “thinking about it” but just can’t get started! ) I think the bins are a good idea, as long as you keep after and tidy them every so often. I have roll-out drawers instead of lower cabinets, they aren’t organized well, but I find them very easy to get into-pots, pans, cooking sheets etc. I would recommend them if you ever decide to change out that wall of cabinets. But I would probably leave them, as they look nice. Also , I am going to try to organize some jewlery with the plastic boxes...I have some small glass boxes on my dresser, and a bigger box, but have trouble finding things- great video- your dogs are so nice and cute! ☺️💕

Hi Marnie, I also overhauled my pantry and love the oxo line, I think just look at what you have & consume and honestly purge stuff you don't reach for! I have also used idesign lazy susan for sauces, olive oil etc.... but my favorite are the containers from oxo line. I'll send you a picture through instagram, to give you a glimpse! lol I too get super motivated and jelly when i see organized anything!! xoxo....

The most important strategy for keeping things organized is to label absolutely everything. Get that label maker going and label every bin and every canister. All food items should be in a labelled bin or canister type container, especially ones that will stack and work together. I even labelled the littlest divided sections in my junk drawer (elastics, twist ties, bread clips, tools, etc.) because I live with three men just like you and if storage areas aren’t labelled they will just throw and stash and all your efforts will be for naught!

I think your pantry is plenty big and I agree that you need to widen the door space...perhaps double doors and add pull out shelves with 3 inch edge to keep it all tidy. I had this type in last last pantry and loved it.

As your pantry goes you can have pull out draws as it is deep enough.
I'm going to look at your home tour video if you have one.

Another great video Marnie! I purchased from my Container Store right before the lockdown... things to organize my bathroom and kitchen with .... still a process , but at your suggestion I put a lazy susan in the pantry for oils, cooking sprays and vinegars...GAME CHANGER!! Thank you for that! Also, I had watched a video recently that the homeowner had Ruggables as well and she had a problem with the corners coming up. She said the company has a new gadget for the corners to hold them down. You might want to check the Ruggables website .😘😘

Rowdy! Oh, how I love him so!! Squeezing into the bathroom with you and in the very next shot there’s his face trying to see what you’re doing. How do you launder your big rug in the family room off the kitchen? Love this video more than any other you’ve done, I think (& that’s saying a lot) bc it’s so real, really detailed, and we got to see more of your beautiful home. Btw, I have that exact same leaf in my house! Lol Everyday...brought in by our two little black & white Jack Russell mixes.

I bought the oxo containers at Costco last month...they are the old model, very disappointing because I bought more and target/bed bath & beyond/container store and they don’t match (stack perfectly). I found the “new” model at Tuesday Morning for over 50% off 💕💕💕

Clean off the counter tops, it would look more spacious- way TOO much stuff on counters! I had the same pantry- I knocked it out by putting french doors, pull out drawers and then punched a hole above it and made another cabinet where I put all my baking sheets, pan etc vertically. WOW! the space!

HI Marnie, I enjoyed the video. I use the clear circular lazy susanne's for my make up storage and love them. I just twirl them around and easily find the makeup I want to apply. Also, have you thought getting the spice organizer that is inset in a drawer next to your cook top. You put just pull out the drawer and your spices are there. I thought it might be a bit easier for you.

Marnie you’re right that pantry cupboard was really not well thought out and is going to be a challenge for you. I think you’re off to a good start with the acrylic organizers and I would label EVERYTHING. I use the can organizers where the cans roll forward as you use them and I love them. I think they hold 18 cans so it’s a great use of space. I bought mine at Walmart. I also use the acrylic bins in my cupboard and fridge. Good luck!

I couldn't get a good view, but at a glance it appears that you have empty space at the top of your pantry, between the top shelf and the ceiling. You might be able to add an extra shelf up there. That's what I did in the pantry, bathroom and the 2 hall closets of my house. Because the top of the pantry/closet was enclosed by the wall above the door, I had to decrease the depth of the added shelf to allow access. I added wire shelving, which is easy enough that I did it myself. Just measure the space and get the shelving cut to fit at one of the home improvement stores. I moved a lot of stuff that I don't use often up to those top shelves and it's amazing what a difference the resulting extra storage space makes below. Yes, you will need a sturdy 2-3 step ladder to reach up to the top shelves when you need to. In my pantry, I stored extra flour and sugar, etc., up there after putting the products in tall, square plastic containers, which I labelled to identify the contents and the date stored. In my hall linen closet, I used the top shelf for rarely used cooking and serving items. In my hall coat closet, I used the top shelf for storing winter hats, gloves and scarves. I put them in a wider, flat plastic container that fit the space. In my bathroom, I used the space for things like hot rollers that I am not currently using and other health/beauty items. It was a quick, easy and inexpensive project and made a real difference in my every day life.
Also, check out The Container Store for storage systems. They will be investments, but you can customize and the results are fabulous!

Maybe you could get different shelves in your pantry? Possibly narrower shelves on the side walls instead of one deep shelf along the back. So you could potentially stand in your pantry and have shelves to your left and right. Kind of hard to describe...sorry! And I am so with you on the dorm stuff taking over the lower level of the house. When we moved our son back in March (cross fingers they can all go back in the fall!) his stuff COVERED the dining room, foyer and living room. The question constantly in my head was how did al of this possibly fit in a tiny dorm room!
