- Blaydon Races song with lyrics, for all Newcastle Utd supporters and geordies. Blaydon Races is a famous Geordie folk song written in the 1800s by Geordie Ridley, in a style deriving from music hall. It is regarded by many as the unofficial anthem of Tyneside and is frequently sung by supporters of Newcastle United Football Club and Newcastle Falcons rugby club. Blaydon is a small town in Gateshead, situated about 4 mi (6.4 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne, in North East England. The actual race itself used to take place on the Stella Haugh 1 mi (1.6 km) west of Blaydon. Stella South Power Station was built on the site of the track in the early 1950s, after the races had stopped taking place in 1916.

As a Scotsman that went with a Geordie Lass for 2 years that it makes me proud to hear this everytime I listen to it. It brings back fond memories to what we had. I was a Liverpool fan since birth and after this experience I came to the conclusion that if I wasn’t a Liverpool fan I’d support Newcastle United. Always look out for the Newcastle result it’s great to see that they are doing well. ❤️
Howay, lad
GAN ON SON! 👍😉
Makes you proud? Why? For pumping a Geordie bird? Aye fair enough.

This song was a favourite of Jack Charlton's, god rest him, the legacy he left on our country is immeasurable
Just watched the film. What a man he was, last of a dying breed.
Discovered this song after watching the documentary. Brought a tear to my eye seeing him sing it at the end.
Wish big Jack had ov played for the toon like
That last scene had me in floods
I only know the song after watching the documentary on Jack Charlton.
He not only had a massive effect on the lives of the Irish. He gave many Scots people a great deal of hope and joy to see the Republic of Ireland light up the world.
Newcastle United forever ❤️❤️❤️

Hi
I'm a NUFC fan from California and I've been studying the Georide language for a couple years. Shouldn't be long before I'm comfortable enough for a trip to Newcastle for a match

My Dad fought in Korea with the Inneskillen Dragoon Guards. Although from London, all of his tank crew were Geordies. He loved Geordies for the rest of his life, sang this song frequently and always told me "you will never find a better friend than a Geordie". However, having ended up with one as a life partner I have a rather different view and find myself saying poor Ashley everytime I see Chelsea play. Great song anyway
boum62 Good for the "Skins" As far as your football goes, I agree with you.
BLUE IS THE COLOUR!!!!
Many of my Korea buddies were ex-DLI and if we weren't "gannin alang trhe Scottswood Road" we were "keepin' oor feet still, Geordie Hinny"
boum62 cushdy thanks
Come on I am going to sing this song when I am going to Poland in the 3rd of June iam sure they like the new castle song of the blaydon races
Great story and proud to see the Skins and DLI get a mention. I served beside many Geordies and what a fine bunch of men!

When I was a wee bairn my Granddad used to sing this in the car when he'd take us home, I lost a lot of my Geordie influence when he passed. He was a lovely man with a big heart.

I first heard the Newcastle fans singing this when Newcastle beat Pompey 4-1 at Fratton Park in the Div 2 game in 1983-1984 season. We were totally outclassed by Keegan and Waddle. Hated the result but loved the song!
Any Geordie has every right to be proud it's a marvellous song and their passion is inspiring . From a Sussex based Oldham fan.
Pure belta tune still in 2021 howay the lads and lasses of the toon love and blessings to all ya fellow Geordies

My dad was born in Jarrow South Shields in 1918 Jarrow is famous for the Jarrow march when they marched to London to no avail Geordies are great people my dad remembers going to see Newcastle play Sunderland he was a nipper he was stood at the back and the crowed lifted him and his friends up above their heads and carried them all the way down to the front I love the accent and the song The Blaydon Races
I'm also a "Jarra" lad, God bless your Dad... Them blokes were salt of the earth ❤❤
Was born in Newcastle, but moved to New Zealand when I was 2. Thankfully my dad (born and bred Geordie) helped keep the Geordie culture alive by playing this all the time! Wanna go back immediately!! Go the toon!
WHY AYE MAN! It'll be good to have ya back.
CHAMPION! 👍😉
My dad drummed this song into me..!! His mam was a geordie..and an avid Newcastle supporter..as was my dad..many a holiday I had in Whitley bay...and the embarrassment as my dad got up to sing this..!!!! Could be cockney Johnny!! Fab nights tho xxx
Currently in Newcastle on a stag do with 11 friends from Nottingham, this has been the theme song for the entire weekend. Really enjoyed belting it out and reading the comments below seeing how many memories this song evokes for people!
My grandad were a geordie and loved this song from Leeds myself but it reminds us of him
I was a student at Newcastle University ( 1963)and used to go to Southmoor down mines and I saw pit ponies too. Then went to the local pub and had a sing-song after drinking Brown beer!
I wanna play this on a pub I Newcastle and watch everyone go mental so bad! Big fan from Denmark 🇩🇰
This is just one of those songs that get you into a good mood. Love it when this get played at st James Park!
Smiling faces is myth now. It's all doom and gloom now. Not team I grew up watching.
The old version is much better than the one they play now.

Last time the races actually took place (whats now a Power Station) I think in 1916 the Robin Adair pub still stands though or least did do fairly recently (actually when looking at wiki has been demolished apparently)
Dated a geordie lass once, she told me about this song.... I will love you forever elise barbara robertson. you was the best thing that ever happened to me!
First time ive listened to this since my mum and dads funeral 13 years ago ,,,,,,, My dads wish was to have this at the end of his funeral service :) this ones for you Geordie Brown XXX

Love this song. Proud to be a Geordie. 🖤🤍
From a life long long Chelsea fan. I have a lot of respect for Newcastle. Even tough you turned us over 2-0. Like I said, a lot of respect.
In memory off Sir Bobby Charlton. Rip. 🙏😢⚽ True Tynesider. A Legend. Never will be forgotten.
Finally I know the full thing, my dad used to sing the chorus on repeat when I was little, always wondered where it came from.
There's one verse missing.
"And when we got to Paradise
The bonny games begun
There were 4 an 20 on the bus
And how we danced and sung.
They called on me to give a song
I gave em Paddy Fagan
I danced a jig and I swung me twig
The day I went to Blaydon."
I think it's before the last verse he sings here.
Great things are coming to the kind people of the beautiful city of Newcastle 😍. Love from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦❤️🇬🇧.
Grandma used to sing this and other Geordie folk songs to us in the bath as kids, fond memories. I searched for it to remember the words to sing to my new baby
Respect from BEŞİKTAŞ ✌🏻🦅
My ex-wife's dad was from Buxton and served in Korea with the Durham Light Infantry. He had the very highest opinion of Geordies. I believe he saw his wartime comrades as closer than brothers. I fondly remember my own short visit to Newcastle (from Australia. Nothing was to much trouble for the comfort of my wife and myself (pet). Hooray for the Geordies! And hooray for the Blaydon Races. And for James Bolam and Rodney Bewes :)
Wor Mandy has saved us lads
I went to Poland with my friends and with my teacher but my dad died last year plus he was he was poorly.

At the weirdest of times, by dad shouts "wow!, me lads" and it makes us think something has happened, it really annoys my mum, but it makes me burst into laughter! 😂🤣
Wolves fan but with an affinity for the toon from playing as them on Football Manager since Championship Manager 3 (and cos I watched Byker Grove when I was a kid), no teams got songs like you lot. I listen to this song before every important game (in game of course). Don't even mind the bloke but Peter Reid will always have a "monkeys heed" to me.
