    Extra Notes:
    - Corners have a tendency to crack, usually is fine, make sure the corners are perfectly flat, and dont press hard into them when fitting before glue.
    - A sharp box cutter would come in handy to cleanup/trim the corners if the screen isnt fitting
    - Using heat is useless, the plastics are melted together using a bonding agent (they dont use glue)
    - Excess heat could warp the faceplate we dont want that.
    - I found another 1000 Clear faceplate laying around and that one happened to crack open cleanly
    - Yes thats Minecraft glass in the thumbnail

I managed to separate the plastic original screen from an aftermarket clear faceplate with relative ease by submerging it all in hot water (not boiling just hot enough you can put your hands in it) this made all the plastics just bendy enough they didn't crack and break but without warping them and enabled me to twist until a corner popped up from where I used a soft guitar pick to gently push under the glue. Works a charm!

Keep in mind that he was bashing it while the front shell was free to flex and absorb the shock
The moment he flipped it and the glass was making contact with a hard surface, it broke at the first hit
I think you should expect it to behave similarly to that second example while mounted on a psp that's properly closed up

In that instance if it was fully installed, the LCD would probably shatter first before the outer glass does.

I think I'll end up doing the project smokey faceplate (if I can find it), glass lens upgrade, IPS screen and PSVita joystick. Maybe even throw in a new battery. I was gonna repaint the grey frame and triggers but seems like too much work to disassemble the PSP for just an aesthetic upgrade, maybe I'll leave that for the future. Thanks again for this video series!
BTW I swear to god I had a dream last night where I was given a PSVita but it looked like a fischer price toy, had a flip out screen and was big and bulky painted red and yellow. I remember thinking in my dream "wow my PSP 1000 is so much nicer than this" LOL

@@hadamana Unfortunately it seems like these matt aftermarket shells are out of stock and we may never see them again, got reports of people saying they got glossy instead of matt and i ordered another one from same seller/listing and it was horrible.
My safest suggestion is to to get at least 2 faceplates of whatever color you like from any seller just to play it safe, incase the lens removal doesnt go so well on the first try. And use an original bottom half of the body after you disassemble and fully scrub and clean it.

I'm sure if you were careful, the home row buttons could be left in the original 2k/3k faceplate. Also, I would recommend applying the glue as you did, near the edges, but with a fine tip syringe or using something to paint it on thin. Squeezing direct from the tube can get pretty messy on detail areas.

@@aurelios69 You can do it, but not in the original shell, if it's a shell bought on Aliexpress for example, the lens is a separate piece from the shell, you can remove it and put this glass one in, but the original one can't, because it's a single piece. with the shell.

To remove the lens from third party PSP 1000 clear shells, it maybe helps to first drill a small hole on the lens and then cut it with scissors. After that, try to remove the lens remaining parts that are glued to the shell as you show in this video.

I can suggest better way to glue the glass lens if I may. What I do is apply transparent silicone on the edges of the PSP with a toothpick and rest the lens. Now you may not fit it perfectly and do some mess while adjusting but that's okay since silicone is easy to remove even after it cures. After it's set apply actual glue to the outer corners of the lens, 4-6 drops is enough, and make sure to use non spilling superglue. Much more elegant way and next to no imperfections, but keep in mind it's still tedious to clean the silicone.

There are no IPS screens for 2000 only original and fragile aftermarket parts that break easily and colors are washed out.
At the moment there is no saturation plugins, vita has such features but only because sony natively has implemented it in code.
If you bought a new screen online for the 2000, its most likely super washed out, if that is the case, I recommend you get an original display from a doner broken psp

As far as what I know, they are all mostly the same, as in coming from the same aftermarket factory, so whichever one you find is your best option whether it fits the color exactly or not, even if it doesn't it will be alright as it will give a 2 tone look of some sort, and of course quality will be low, and if you have original buttons it would be best to use as always.

      Great question,
Reason is the glue they use, isnt really glue, its a plastic bonding agent, that melts the plastics together into one compontent forming a super strong bond.
Too much heat could possibly warp the faceplate making it not sit properly.
Heat would help but only a little bit, not enough to have a clean easy removal for the super hard ones :/

@@TotalKommando iv got smth like 7psp's and 4 glass screens to assamble, i will check that. Still, if heat this plastic screen (a bit) from inside, should be easier in my opinion. Anyway, good vidss. I'm still wating on vid with battery content, becouse i do the same :D So, iv got M7 battery charger (i made my own charging cabels), FNB58 and many (around 20, and duble in transit from Aliex..) fake and orginal batteries. Cheers!

The glass broke in the corner when I was test fitting it.

Happens, usually its the inner glass, the front part usually is ok, but i bet it can bother a lot of people

Just bad prepping from yourself. You want to make sure every little point on the inside of the shell is sanded down properly where it meets the glass edges and don't use too much glue.

You'd have to be nuts to use a e1000 without a lens. The screen panels are far too easily damaged

Going to add that these are just glass. there is no oliophobic coating, there is no tempering.
Really compared to the plastic lens for me its a side-grade.
With the plastic one it likes to scratch, with the glass one it likes to shatter. I had 2 of these lenses crack on my in the corners, having no idea how it happened.
When on the go I keep my psp inside a hardshell case inside my backpack and at home its just sitting around, I do take care of it.

Or you could of just done it easy way used heat gun that would of made it lot easier to pop screens out.

That adds a high risk of warping the faceplate, I tried it with a hairdryer and it didnt make that much of a difference unless I really cook it. They use a bonding agent that melts the plastics together.

Why are you not using heat. I would use a small amount of heat like a hair dryer to soften the glue then use your method. But I’m no expert so I guess you already tried that.

    • @TotalKommando
      @TotalKommando  9 месяцев назад

They didnt use glue, instead some type of bonding agent that melts the plastics together forming a solid bond. I tried hot hair dryer heat and it did not budge with some of the clear shells. If I were to use a heatgun it would eventually warp the faceplate so that wasnt an option.
It may help slightly with some of the other easier ones thats for sure.

Just use your hair drier for removal

Tried it, doesn't work, they don't use glue, instead they use a bonding agent that basically fuses/melts the plastics together
