  • Have you ever been watching a train go by, and seen something funky pass by? That was the case with this train! What was originally reported as being nuclear train, turned out to something entirely different, but equally neat!
    We'll start off just outside of Downtown Minneapolis. After hearing reports that a train with armed guards, and nuclear equipment as coming, I wanted to go out and see it in person. I was surprised to see that this wasn't the case, but rather a HUGE piece of electrical equipment, most likely a transformer of sorts. Moving this large load, is a special heavy duty flat car owned by Siemens Energy.

    This is a transformer. Siemens also builds such parts in Berlin, Germany. the flat car behind the loco is certainly only in between to reduce the meter load, especially on bridges. Letting the transformer car run right behind the locomotive could cause bridges to collapse. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven

    Great video Douglas. That's something pretty rare to see. Love this kind of load.

    Nice Generator load. From Charlotte NC. We unload them often at Charleston SC either by ship or gantry crane and haul them to the dock.

    Don’t forget, you can always see great train action by standing on the old Soo line bridge over the Staples sub south of Little Falls.

    Nice capture... I've seen some of their heavy-duty equipment over here along the Hi-Line near Williston, ND, including the caboose. Never got a chance to shoot any stills, unfortunately.

    How long ago was this video'ed, as the line through Big Lake was closed shortly after this video was uploaded due to a massive Z-train wreck in Big Lake at 172nd Street.

      This was back in early June of 2024; long before the derailment in Big Lake. Thanks for the comment, and watching!

    Minneapolis resident here, could you please suggest some good viewing locations? You mentioned a couple in the video but I'm not sure where most are.

      @SD457500  20 дней назад +2

      Sure can! These are my top three for Mpls, but happy to suggest others for the area. Plug these locations into Google Maps, and they should yield results:
      -Northtown Railyard Viewpoint - great view of Northtown Yard, and CPKC's mainlines. This is right off of Saint Anthony Parkway
      -Bagtape in NE Mpls; you can get right up to the rails
      -44th Ave Bridge in Fridley - Great overview of Northtown Diesel Shops.
      Let me know if you'd like more viewing locations in Mpls!
