Starting at Watford Junction, we chase the ‘Class 56 Farewell’ railtour, initially led by 56098 and trailed by 56081, to Woburn Sands and then Bedford.
Later, we head to Beaconsfield to chase the Branch Line Society ‘Shooter’s Swansong’ railtour with 37418 ‘An Comunn Gaidhealach’ and 50008 ‘Thunderer’ which leads us on the rest of the adventure, finishing at Paddington Station later that evening.

The drivers in those cabs wondering why the f*ck is this man appearing at every platform I go to 😂
Hahaha, i did also think that,,, remember when Denzel kept spotting Del Boy up North
@@77jazzbass imagine being Boycie and seeing Delboy on a hovercraft in Florida 😂
I can tell you from personal experience that not only the drivers, but sometimes the passengers and guards, end up playing the game of "Spot The Looney," made popular of course by Monty Python's Flying Circus decades ago...................
There's the "impossibly big guy chasing with that tiny car he can't possibly fit in", the "bloke with four cameras around his neck", "the guy who yells 'WOOOOOO!!!!' every time you notch out the regulator", "the guy who keeps climbing light poles", 'the guy with the hi-viz vest trying to pass himself off as a rail worker", "the duo pacing the train with a Triumph TR3A while shooting video", "the guy who thinks he's in a road rally with that fast Porsche chase car", "the bloke who always asks to get in the cab", "the rail employee who legally gets in the most impossible spots to get his shots/videos", "the guy who dresses in a 60-year-old guard/driver's uniform", "okay, there's his car, where is he this-- 😳HOW THE DEVIL DID HE GET UP THERE?!?", "the two guys with clipboards and stopwatches still logging loco performance the old-fashioned way", "the guy who won't shut up about how the old railtours were better and he has ALL the dog-eared photos in his pocket to prove it"................. 🙄
And then, if course, there's "that crazy smiling guy with a plaid scarf and a camera strapped to his forehead and that girl next to him with a 'kill-me-now' look on her face".............................🤣
And may I say that in forty-plus years of chasing and photography, I've seen all of the above and then some (and occasionally BEEN the "looney" the passengers watch for!) including the last one thanks to these videos....

Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Bloody hell Francis, your girlfriend is super committed to be chasing after you all day while you chase diesels. She's definitely a keeper! And yes, she definitely should've press the help point! haha

Cheers lad hope you are well!
Found you on Reddit. Love to see your passion for these trains. Hope to learn more!
Yeah same
The 56 sounds mint. Amys little cameo made me laugh 😂
I’m not a train nut but have always loved the sound of the old diesels, your obvious joy of this is infectious and the video very professional, you had better keep that camera woman happy. I thoroughly enjoyed it thank you.
I wished I loved anything the way Francis loves his trains....❤
My 2 year old son and I love watching your videos, thanks for the trains! Please continue the series 😀
Traindriverbrian maybe a good channel for your selfs too and on tik toc hun
me too!
Me too, and I am 65.
@kam_1982 don't encourage small kids onto ticktok...it melts their brains! Long form videos are okay but not ticktok...
Its beautyful to see someone enjoying life like you mate! Keep it up
I love trains, but this fellow deserves a medal !
Just happened upon you brother and your excitement is infectious! Love seeing how happy trains make you such positive content! Made my day
brilliant vid Francis ! could'nt believe the speed of the first train going through station SCARY !!!!
My favourite loco of all time is the Deltic (class 55). The sound from those engines vibrated through the platform and into your chest. Even the drivers need eardefenders, they literally are deafening.
I've sat between the twin engines making recordings (up to 90mph). Ear defenders on, of course :)
Never seen anyone get so much joy from a train 👍🏻
I not trying to be rube, but when I watch this guy, I can't stop imagining that I like trains kid from asdfa.
Now there's a man living his best live. Loving your work Francis - keep it up.
Your joy for life is infectious Francis Bourgeois 🌟🥰 Keep up the brilliant work ❣️👊🏽
I lived in Banbury in the 1980's so Class 50's to New St. were very common, managed 30 class haulages... great times. So sad 56081 can't be saved as it is.
Fascinating pursuit! This is the first time I've found your channel as I just watched the trip all the way up to Thurso on BBC tonight.
I think you would have gone totally bonkers if you had been with me when I was a kid. I grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where the Big Boys, the Challengers, and the gas turbines lived. Just for fun, my granddad, a locomotive engineer (driver to you) would take me out to the west end of the Cheyenne yards where the big iron would be spooling up for their assault on Sherman Hill. We'd stand right next to the tracks, as you do in the stations, and just let the incredible sound wash over us. Now, the cinder dicks (railway police) won't let you within 25 feet of the track anywhere outside the stations.
Keep up the good work from your new follower.
Great video. I was a Class 37 clay train fan down here in Cornwall. Cracking din double headed. Best wishes.
It’s a wonder history channel or national geographic don’t give u a TV show. Good voice and presentation and passion for trains!!!
BBC's Travel program just aired here (US) tonight, with his journey all the way north to Thurso.
Nice to see and hear the old diesel engines without namby pamby silencing . Takes me back in time 😊
You can't beat a 37 thrash. There is literally nothing in life like it.
I can finally see what you see in the thunderous sounds of those locos. 😊
The screaming sound of that 56 as it left Watford reminded me of hearing the same sound at Lime St when the London trains departed
Glad to experience your enthusiasm! I recall vividly seeing almost all the D400s (class 50) locos thundering up the WCML in the late 1960s, brand new, even saw a few leaving Vulcan Foundry on their very first journeys!
Always pleasing to see a non-electrified modern route.
Not had a model railway in over 30 years but your love could change that I love the 37s and 50 great vid.
I love you so much. Your smile made my dsy. I came here to subscribe and let you know that I love your content
Francis, your enthusiasm is wonderful. These locomotives have always made me want to jump with joy, especially the sound and especially the 50s. I did see and hear them in period, at Paddington, coming up out of Exeter St David’s with a full load on and ripping my eardrums as they tore through Didcot at 100mph. They are so loud it’s hard to believe it was ever normal but the quality of that sound, a massive, what, 200 litre 16 quad turbo is up there with Merlin engines. Keep up the great work!
What a wonderful person.
This was very uplifting for me.
Thank you 😊
Hahaha the pure joy on your face is fantastic, love it , I hope you treat your girl to days out doing stuff she loves. Never drove 50's, but drove Valenta HST's since 2003 until MTU , now IET class 800. Miss the HST's. Keep up the good work
One man and his hobby is great to see
The sight and sound of the "Hoovers" is something you just can never forget. I must have seen them all from Dreadnought' to 'Fearless', as they passed through Andover on the Waterloo-Exeter services
Your video brought back such memories. Please keep them coming.
here in devon we used to see who could clear the whole lot the quickest , if you put the time in it really could be down to a month before starting again , 50`s and 47`s literally all day long with the occasional 37 doing clay freight
Hey, Francis! Just saw your episode of the BBC's Travel Show. You absolutely made one of the most enjoyable episodes they've ever had - congratulations!
Well done, being from watford as a young spotter with my Ian allan combine and a ticket to travel brings back memories. Thank you..
Nice to see the Aventra (Class 345) going full speed through the station. I spent a lot of hours testing that and the fastest I've managed on the real train is 95 MPH, coasting, for the slip stream testing.
Great to hear the diesels too.
2 more grids we've lost sadly I love these screaming beasts 🥰😍🤩
Lovely video bringing back some great memories. Hang onto that sweet lady of yours... she is cute. Regards from Oz. Gaz😊
OMG This is absolutely Incredible ❤ Amazing woohoo ❤
You're the one who got me into trainspotting and I am very grateful for it! Keep doing what you're doing!!!!
The thrash at 5.44seconds absolutely hellfire ! Great video great chase !
Trains and cats. Doesn’t get better than that!
Keep up the brilliant videos.
😁 Chris.
We love you Francis❤
In the right conditions, like in the middle of a cold clear night, one could hear these diesels from 3 to 4 miles away. I know that because I often used to listen to the overnight Waterloo-Exeter parcels train from where I lived in Farnham. It would be doing around 90mph and be audible for about a minute. At it's nearest it was 3 miles away near Fanborough. I could even tell if it was a Class 50 or 47.
Great vid of 56098 and 56081, I recently saw 37418 in its New Loram Livery with A saloon coach:)
wow i filmed 56098 recently, sad to see them turn into that crap
Living the dream!!! Keep it up Francis
the scream of a grid just reminds of the early valenta hst engines from the 1970s 🥰😍🤩
The class 37s look great in that livery...
Your a star in your own right Francis ,,really enjoyed watching your day out ..37`s , 50`s 47`s 20`s so many great diesels out there ..and subscribed 👌👌👍👍
The head moving around on the ,ap is cracking me up! 😂😂😂😂
Beautiful video mate!! That loco's got a beautiful turbo , love from India
Ur enthusiasm is superb. If u had been around 40 years ago u would have be on life support...
Steam engines will always be my main area of passion but I do still have a place in my heart for diesels. Class 37 would probably be my favourite. I just love that gurgling growl from those tractor-like engines 😄
Good fun - really enjoyed this!
Have you ever been to an airshow? I used to go to those a lot when I was younger. They are awesome and loud too! The Harrier jet was by far the loudest machine I've ever heard with my own two ears. It was a maybe 100-150 meters distance something like that and it was so loud you couldn't hear someone next to you yelling at the top of their lungs. This was when it was hovering just over the grass not far off the ground. That's when it was it's loudest.
Brilliant. !! Thanks for sharing !
Reading through the comments. I am really surprised no one mentioned the golden age of the Fort William sleeper when it still ran out of Glasgow Queen Street with a stock of sleeper cars, seating then 3 mark 1s attached to the front at Q Street! In those days window hanging was still possible! 1 single 37 4xx climbing out of the station from a standing start straight into the tunnel on full throttle to climb that hill……. THAT WAS NOISE! Real proper full on noise but also the smell of the diesel in the confined space of the tunnel! On a passenger service it was without doubt one of the best in the country! Also helped by mk 1 carriages, door windows down, carriage windows fully open! Right behind the engine! No let up through the entirety of that tunnel! That is a special memory for me! There must be someone who remembers the breakfast move! Upper Tyndrum, down to the Little Chef then Lower Tyndrum on the first Oban of the day back into Glasgow. The day trains on the West Highlands never sounded as loud as that first train of the day!
A Syphon and a Hoover all in one. I'm jealous :)
Wow... what a fabulous video... Thank you. Great footage... Great sound... especially the Class 56s. 😊😊
Good video Francis I love all class 37s/50s/56s/ they take me back to being a kid spotting in the 1980 at Wakefield West gate/Doncaster/Bescot/Manchester Victoria/piccadilly!!!
Wakefield man here !!
Great tune...definately channelling your inner Aphex twin!
That is a lot of miles for a few seconds of eyeballing and wonderful engine sounds. Very keen and full of enthusiasm well done to you both.
Love the enthusiasm!
Id love to meet you out on the rails, I think your enthusiasm is infectious!
what a great day! ❤ loved the cat interlude.
Two lovely catches at the start which are overlooked. The prideolino and class 92 with the sleeper :)
Amazing video
Awesome effort getting around. I saw that 56 railtour at ferriby, it was sure a loud one!
Absolutely love your enthusiasm Francis .keep it going
You give me such an Alan Partridge vibe - and I mean that in a good way :D
You are amazing, the genuine love of Railways is fantastic to see. Thank you 😊
And the love of cats 🐈
What a great video, thanks Francis!
Here at stevenage before Christmas on the platform waiting for a standard kings cross connection, a deltic flat nose went through and not stopping. Holy shit, what a loud noise and wow factor, my daughter was gob smacked, as was I.
They used to use 56s on the Colas Linsey Oil Refinery to Preston Docks bitumen trains and it went about 80 feet past my house every morning at 7am. Since they switched to Class 70s on that route, I now have to set an alarm to wake up as my windows no longer rattle 😅
It's a pleasure watching your excitement and knowledge with trains. Subbed.
mate that was the nuts... Aaaaahhhh the class 50..... more more more pls!!!!!!!!
Very nice video ❤love from India 🇮🇳 Best wishes 🎉
What a thrashtastic day Francis! Loved watching & listening to that😁👍
The 37 is the dogs bollocks.
I remember the double-headed 56s replace 3x37s on the Port Talbot-Llanwern ore trains, the heaviest trains on BR at the time. The 56 is my favourite loco, but seeing the triple headed 37s - usually filthy with coal and ore dust, raging through Cardiff Central was like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie.
Those iron ore trains must have been epic. Unfortunately I never got to see them. However, hearing 2 x 37 on the aluminium and paper train climbing from Spean Bridge past Fersit at about 5 in the morning from my bed in a former railwayman's cottage was awesome.
Absolutely awesome!!!
It's really interesting to me to see someone so excited about stuff I work around, designing equipment for every day. The enthusiasm is infectious I suppose.
Great vid, thanks guys
Amy made me laugh, deserves a medal
I have to love this video for the sheer plearsure on your face, brilliant video
Can't help but smile
By far one the most enjoyable videos I've watched great footage well done 👍
Excellent day out thanks for sharing
Love these videos! Keep em coming mate!
All great charismatic locos - but I have to say the sound of 56 is something else - it sounds like pure power.
Great video Francis 👍
Great stuff guys, keep up the good work.
Francis, your the reason i started my channel, my love for trains really came back into full swing cuz of u, and im forever greatful for you cuz of my passion to love trains just like u do
Oh the memories of all those legendary locos. Used to hangout at hoo junction in the 90s, 37 after 37 and tons of 33's too
Please continue uploading videos here. I follow you on TikTok as well. Your Channel 4 series was EXCELLENT!!! We need more of your videos! :)
Wow...Great stuff keep up yhe good work francis
Geek central, I love it! Nice one Francis, very interesting to see these trains running.
Loving this guys passion.
Love this video- bringing thrash to the masses. But, which loco was your favourite?
Good stuff! Glad to you see you had such a great day!
I think you would have loved it at 1pm on summer saturdays at Exeter St Davids around 1989-1990.
One Class 50 would leave for Paignton... and another would leave for Waterloo, thrashing up the gradient toward Exeter Central!!
The noise was incredible!!
Love it. Reminds me when I was young chasing steam. From my bedroom we could hear the whistle as loco left station, and we would run out to a footbridge at the end of our road and stand on top to get engulfed in smoke where it was still pulling hard. Great days they were.
