nice vid of my old employer... also @ 11:28... WOW i remember when those ATSF C-44s were SHOWROOM NEW... i worked for the CNW out of butler yd in milwaukee back in 1993... around 1994 a Wisconsin electric power plant in oak creek wisconsin was getting coal from a place called york canyon in new Mexico off the santa fe (pentrex did a video back then of them lifting the train in two sections over raton pass)... they would show up in milwaukee for servicing after the crew spotted the coal... i remember seeing them at the diesel ramp getting fuel and sand for the return trip back to the mine... brand spanking shiny new to... nice to that they are still in service but what a shame to see them now running around like two neglected step kids living under the back porch
It would have been quite a neat time to be seeing fresh Santa Fe power back in that timeframe! Its sad to see how worn they've become over the years. :/ Thanks for the comment, and watching!
Great video. Nice to see the SD60 still working for UP. I haven't seen one of those in several years and see that many have been sold to short lines across the country.
2213 was operating LNV44 for a little while. (LNV44 Valley NE, to Valley NE Valley Yard Local does occasionally make trips to Fremont Yard in Fremont Nebraska)
Thank you for these very informative videos, I’m from the Lake Minnetonka area myself. So I’ve seen a lot of these rail lines, but not always trains going down them. Interesting to see how the UP services what’s left of the Luce Line You are very informative on the types of trains. Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed it! In addition to switching out cars, this was shot over the course of two months. This was enjoyable to capture, and is a very undershot route. Thanks for watching!
Thats a pretty tight turn when you can see the axle turn., and he's just barnstorming his wayh through that light rail with that 6 axle brick. Kept waiting for the outside rail to go flying out from under it, lol.
@@SD457500 CP operates one half, BNSF the other. Weird arrangement. I’ve seen the BNSF local switching in the Grove yard, but never actually going out or coming back.
Thank you for the kind words, and glad you enjoyed it! The drone is PERFECT for a local like this which winds through so many different parts of the city.
great video and yes would like to see more on this line as i may model this with the great MN&S RY. , and more of where the bulk heads and flats came from, also where did the tank car go/from.?? THANKS AGIN.
Very cool! What era of the MN&S do you model? I have another video in the works featuring the MN&S working its way south. The tank car came from Lube-Tech in Golden Valley; they typically work them on the way west. The flats came from Olympic Steel Plate in Plymouth. I do not recall where the bulkhead came from though.
Super awesome. I've lived in Plymouth for 5 years and had no clue there was industrial rail here. What time of day does this train come in and out of Union Steel? I'd love to go see it with my own eyes.
Happy you came across this video! This job currently runs on Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It starts over at Union Pacific's East Mpls Yard at 0700, and they usually get over to Plymouth around 10 to 11am. They'll switch a number of customers out, and start heading back about an hour or so after they get there. Hope this helps!
Hmph. Last summer my wife and I were riding on the bike path next to the track and a UP GP60 went by. Kind of gutsy, not to mention a bit of overkill, to send an SD60 down this track, which is very soft over the marshes. In 1976 I was caddying at Golden Valley Country Club and the morning train to Plymouth came through the middle of the course, which they still do. What do you think happens when a golfer sees a moving target like a train? And these were supposed to be the respectable, leading lights of our communities! Fine examples to us young caddies! More than a few bucks changed hands as you can imagine. “Hold my beer son while I peg the door on that CNW boxcar for a five.”
That's on the in progress list! I was shooting the Hudson Bridge the other day; more on this soon! In the meantime, here is a video of a coke train with a CSXT SD40-2 leading. Video: ruclips.net/video/7ziApAqGkrE/видео.html Thanks for watching!

Same here; this unit wasn't here for all too long, and is now working in Nebraska. Thanks for watching!
I watched the MNS for more than 20 years from my office window in Golden Valley on this route. Thanks for the memories.
Glad it brought up some good memories on your end! The next video coming up will be on the MN&S, and some parts of them working Hill Salt.

I heard something about that; its neat how fast these locomotives can get around the UP system.

Thank you so very much for the kind words, and glad you enjoyed the video! I have always wanted to see more images of the Luce Line back in its day.
Great video! Was confused at first that the freight cars in the train kept changing 🙂 Would love to see more of these "job videos".

I was a little apprehensive with it; its some pretty big power coming around the curve with light rail. Thanks for watching!
I've always wondered what this line was when crossing those grades in Plymouth. Good camera work and explanations! Thanks for putting this together.
Glad you liked it, and that it helped to provide some information. Thanks for the comment, and watching!
Great work.
Great to hear your enjoyed it, and I appreciate the kind words!

Glad you like them, and wonderful to hear they help with modeling ideas. Thanks for watching!
Excellent production values. I very much like this sort of video. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thank you very much! I have another like this in the works featuring the MN&S line with a CP GP38-2 leading the way.
Good stuff!! I always enjoy seeing these lesser-known locals.
More to come! These are fun to make, it's getting them in decent light that is the hard part. Next up is one on the MN&S. :D
@@SD457500 looking forward to it! Have you ever caught the BNSF local which brings paper to the Star Tribune?

They’ve been using those old Santa Fe units as remotes at Northtown.
That they have, and on the pull out jobs too. While its neat to see, I miss the 40s working Northtown Yard.
@@SD457500 yes. I loved, as an engineer, switching with those. With the right conductor and brakeman it was as smooth as butter.
