Glad you liked that part! The original MN&S had those style of horns, and they sound AMAZING! Progressive Rail does an amazing job with operations, and keeping the spirit of the MN&S alive.
I really enjoyed watching the local switching! Locals are my favorite part of railroading. The description of whats happening to me makes it so much better and next level up!
HA... i think CP Rails idea of positive corporate imaging extends only as far as putting clean engines and clean railcars on the cover of their quarterly/yearly investor report booklets... after that, it's "dirty engine business" as usual.
I appreciate the kind words, and that's exactly what I am going for on these videos! Sprinkle in some history, fun facts, and make it engaging and fun to watch. Thank you for the kind words, and glad you enjoyed the video.
It was really nice to see 3002 at work, i am building a 7.5 scale gp38 #3005. I only saw it once up near kitchener on. a few years back. keep the videos coming.
Oh neat! I like these GP38ACs; they look and sound great, evening all these years after they were built. I have some video of this leading out on the mainline...might post it soon. Thanks for watching!
Coming soon on those! Those are in the works, and later this year, I'll have another video of two of them. Thank you for watching! Here is a video of the Northfield to Lakeville Train: ruclips.net/video/6UNFOk_tA9w/видео.html
I have seen old photos of the old Dan patch tracks going over the old Milwaukee Road and M&StL main lines. There were a lot of tracks on those main lines at the time!
Glad you enjoyed the video!! I have some older clips I should post, and I've been meaning to shoot a new one. Its on the to do list. :D Thanks for watching!
There's a good bit of MN&S line that seems abandoned between their Bloomington terminal and Lakeville!! How does Progressive Rail connect between the two points?? Thanks for posting this!!
Good question! That track is out of service, and owned by CPKC. While it hasn't seen a train in years, it is *not* abandoned. Progressive Rail serves the southern part of the line via Northfield to Lakeville, and back. That line is VERY active. Here is a link to that line: ruclips.net/video/6UNFOk_tA9w/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Thx SD for showing skunk hollow. Forgot that's what it was called. Rode the bike over there a couple of weeks ago and the old tracks that lead to it are cut off but Hill is still there. Is that correct?
That is correct; the Milw connection at Skunk Hollow is long gone, but the connection with the MN&S is still alive and well for the time being. As part of the light rail project, a new connection was built with the MNS and TCWR. Thanks for watching!
On a lot of Saturdays an eastbound BNSF and southbound CP come real close to doing an over-and-under in St. Louis Park. I don’t think the crews should call it the MN&S job since currently the track has som real ballast under it, which was not the case in pre-Soo days. To their credit, Soo Line threw a considerable amount of money at their purchase. Anyone who walked the old MN&S tracks like I did nearly every day knows that good ballast on the old “monkeynuts” was pit-run pea gravel pushed into the dirt. Yet for all that lousy ballast I remember the monster grain drags the MN&S would pull through Crystal in the late afternoons. Four, five or six round-roof SW’s and a lot of the NSC cylindrical hoppers (or Canadian grain cars as they are sometimes known). Because of the afternoon westbound parade of Soo Line traffic those grain drags could be stuck at the junction for quite a while. In the mid 80s I started working at the Creamette pasta plant in New Hope. We were the epitome of captive shipping because pasta manufacturing is a razor thin-margin business and taking semolina by rail was essential to remaining profitable. For many years we took flour in single-bay airslide hoppers. Eventually the company upgraded our decrepit siding enough for the 50-foot double airslides after which a little more work allowed our plant to receive flour in the weirdest cars imaginable. The cars looked like your average slab-sided PS 100 ton hoppers but the bottoms of the three compartments were removed and custom-made airslide membranes and pneumatic outlets were installed in their place. We only had two hose stations to unload with so there was a fair bit of rearranging cars to empty them. Our switcher was a beat-up Michigan front-end loader that could push two empties a hill. I think there were 20 of those cars in the lease pool. Woe be to the railroad if our cars didn’t show up on schedule. We would have to truck flour in which was a money-losing practice that the railroad would have to make good on. The semolina flour they trucked in came from the ADM mill along Hiawatha which is the last mill still open there. If we were running all-out, which we almost always were, we could eat up four or five of those cars in a day. Now they take flour in the P-D hoppers but the siding is still decrepit.
Soo 4438 was on the old Luce line. So when I cross those tracks, I called them the Luce Line tracks. And there’s also a spur line that goes between the Dan patch tracks and the Luce line tracks, which I referred to as “the Luce Patch“. 😌
@@SD457500 I thought it did because at Northtown I always see similar power to what is in the video (geeps) leading short trains through the same track every time. The geeps are always CP, too.
It would be nice if progressive rail revived service on the old Dan patch line across the old swing bridge to Lakeville. Too bad there’s no consideration for it right now.
Gotta love a local yard
These opps have more character to them, and are neat to see working neighborhoods. Thanks for watching! :D
Love the horn on those switchers10:04! 😅

Thank you very much, and glad you enjoyed it! It was fun to make this type of video, and more of these are in the works.
CP's yard and local power is kept so much cleaner than their road power 😂
I know one time I saw one so dirty I thought it was an NS unit 😂
Generally speaking, the local power looks MUCH better then their road units. Its a nice change of pace. Thank you for watching!

@@25mfd It’s harder to hit a moving target and their road power only hits the shop for any length of time every 90 days for their inspections.

gotta love that old Hancock 4700 air-whistle!
I *love* those type of horns! More of those to come in a future PGR video. :D Thanks for the comment, and watching!
Always great scenery as usual!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the kind words!
Another breaking It friend amazing video 👍🏽
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! I appreciate the kind words, and thank you for the comment.
Great video work and really great editing. I enjoy that you included history of the line in your narrative. More than just a great railfan video.

Another fantastic video!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the kind words! This is a neat local, but VERY undershoot. Thanks for watching!
Sweet video. Love the longer videos that you have been putting out lately
Me too
More to come, and I appreciate the feedback on it. While they are a lot more work, they are well worth the effort! Thank you for watching!
More like those to come!
That 3002 sure has one hell of a Canadian sounding K3L
So true
It sounds GREAT, and is a nice change from the horns the GP20s have. Thanks for watching!
Very great video Douglas! I like the different types of horn I could hear. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! There was quite a nice variety of them in this video. Thanks for watching!
Wonderful video with lots of cool catches and rail action. Have a great rest of your Monday.(Steve)
Many thanks, and glad you enjoyed the video! Have a wonderful week as well.

By the way, I love your drone video! That would definitely be something that C vision productions should consider doing with their railroad videos.
75 years ago I remember mns only engine, a steamer that was parked on a bridge in Edina near 50 th ave south.

The track that goes through the old Glenwood yard area I call “the luce patch“ because it connects the old Dan patch tracks with the Luce line.🙃

If you are available, come to Joe Frischmon's MN&S gathering in November.
Maybe! I've heard good things about it; there information posted about it anywhere?
Do you have any video of the Bloomington to Richfield Yards run? I do not know when that ended.

@ 11:40... anybody know whatever came of those DM&E units???... did they keep them or did they get rid of them
Those are all long gone, and off of the CPKC roster. They were either sold, or scrapped. :/ DME 3801 became PGR 1311. Thanks for watching!
Rcp&e has alot of them as well as G & W. In Rapid city
