Thank you for this superb video ! The locations were outstanding, and I must say the P42 locomotives look stunning in the Phase VII livery !

Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the kind words! I like the new paint scheme on the P42s; it stands out nicely compared the older Amtrak colors.

I could see that! Its a neat little train, and offers some much needed service between the two cities. Thanks for watching, and the comment!

A lot of nice shots in this! I rode the Borealis down to Winona and back on Saturday. Like the one in your video, my return 1333 got stuck behind a freight between Hastings and St. Paul, though it had already been late in Winona. I hope the planned track improvements in La Crosse, La Crescent, and Winona will help it get to the Cottage Grove area on time as much as possible. Maybe some of the ideas that had been investigated as part of Red Rock corridor planning might get implemented to improve that area too.
Like the test train, the first westbound on May 21st only had a single locomotive. I haven't heard how that turned around.
It's interesting seeing all the other Borealis trips running with locos on each end -- I'm not sure if Amtrak has another service quite like it. I can only think of routes that have non-powered cabs and, well, the Acela.
I'll be curious to see how often the cafe/business car is on the end of the train closest to St. Paul vs. the Chicago end. I was surprised it was on the trailing end for both of my rides on Saturday.

I hope that they get this rain running on time more often then not! I have seen this train get stabbed a number of times between Hastings to Newport, and for what appeared to be poor dispatching.
During the oil train boom, there were plans for a third main from St. Croix to Saint Paul Yard. I can only imagine how much something like that, would improve service and help with operations long time,
Thanks for the nice comments, and glad you enjoyed the video!

75 must be a very recent repaint, believe that brings the number to 6 repainted P42s?
It's always nice to see a brand new service. The Downeaster up here is getting it's Amfleets replaced with Horizon cars so I guess those will be something I'll get to see now as well!

VERY fresh and new repaint; probably in the last month or so. I really like how these look, and I'm happy that they're finding their way on this new train.

Yes and no; the other day it had an older P42 on it, and now both trainsets have P42s in the older scheme on it now. Personally, I'll take it with the repainted P42s!

@@SD457500 I mean, its not the worst scheme in the world, but in my opinion, it fits in more with the ALC-42's. (Chargers)

There is talk of running trains to Duluth again, but it would be its own separate train. Its only in the study stage, so at best, its YEARS out at this point.

Rode the Borealis Sunday from La Crosse and the Empire Builder back on Monday. Also got stuck near St Paul. Listening to the scanner it sounded like the dispatchers aren't aware of the new train yet. Side note, those amfleet cars have got to be the most ugly rail cars ever made! Looks like the wheels could fall off at any point! So glad there is only one of them!

Don’t know if I’m a fan of how the color pattern is arranged (I prefer the original chrome and stripes patterned on the sides myself), but the engine certainly looks prettier than it has been this past decade what with the dull, muted color scheme that made it look like a giant grey brick on wheels.

I am still on the fence with Phase VII, but in my opinion, it looks better on the P42s then Chargers. I hope these stay on this train; its a nice fresh face compared to the current silver and blue P42s we are accustomed to.

Interesting how they are using the newly repainted P42s and not the new chargers. Any reason for this?

    • @SD457500
      @SD457500  5 месяцев назад +2

This is because of how the funding for the train is. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, didn't want to pay for the new Chargers, so the train got P42s.
