Tom bought a copy of the first SST record from Chuck Dukowski. August 1980, at the Urban Noize club, here in Portland. We walked in, Chuck was sitting at a small table. Copies of The Minutemen 'Paranoid Time' EP and the Black Flag 'Nervous Breakdown' EP were spread out on the table. Chuck introduced himself, talked about the bands, the label. Those records changed Tom's life. Those records changed a lot of people's lives.
Thank you for sharing this story! I was lucky enough to become a friend of Tom’s for the last 5-6 years of his life. I loved that guy, and still do. Miss him every day.
Find me a band that was so powerful live in the early 90's. Good luck with that! This lineup will stay as one of the greatest not only in punk, but in general music. They were unstoppable. May some of them rest in peace.
I was at this show at the "pine street theater" in portland oregon , in 92'or 93' one of their best shows for sure, hey jason lang,, Duncan from Bend says hello...."ALCOHOLICS UNANIMOUS FOREVER"!! RIP STEVE AND PIG,, FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS....🙋
Rip big fella your music is magic I'm from Australia and when o think American punk posion idea comes straight to mind it has everything including not shying away from the blues not unlike ACDC U guys r legend peace and love lloydy
He became a good friend of mine over the decades....people were always piqued by the difference in our dimensions....he was like a brother from another mother.
They got into everybodies salad. They stole some onion rings and cheese from my Chef salad (full disclosure: The Chef Salad is not ALWAYS prepared by the chef). But I do have to admit I like fat people. Except when they steal my food as they so often do.

punk's not diet!

Which live album has them introduced as the "fattest junkies alive"? This band kicks 100 different kinds of ass.
They got into everybodies salad. They stole some onion rings and cheese from my Chef salad (full disclosure: The Chef Salad is not ALWAYS prepared by the chef).
But I do have to admit I like fat people. Except when they steal my food as they so often do.
what if pig was a health freak and only waid 175....
That would've sucked!!😆
Waid?
Myth
black flag didn't do it first. first would have been a bunch of the earlier punk bands in l.a. who didn't get signed.
+Night Time Exactly...Independent labels were abundant pre-Flag all over the world.
