    A clearer answer to the question at 49:22 is that the actual difference in the use of "natural" is that one describes the natural state, and the other describes the natural result of an action that ISN'T natural. For example, it's natural for humans to have arms, but if I perform the unnatural action of ripping them off, then "naturally" you will have no arms anymore. An unnatural action can have actions "naturally" flow out of it. Our unnatural act of sinning "naturally" lead to death. It does not imply that death is the natural state of human beings, but that it is the natural effect of sin.

    • @farmergiles1065
      @farmergiles1065 2 года назад +8

      @@gobrad And of course, we Orthodox view the Church as not split, but Catholicism as having left the Church, and Purgatory as the distortion. Rather than play with disputations, though, I think we can agree that it is good to keep trying to open one's eyes to see and one's ears to hear God, just as Christ encouraged us. We humans know so little, because we are finite, but God is infinite and knows all. He came to save all of us, wherever we are. And wherever we are, we are all still sinful but redeemable, and His mercy endures and is what saves - we cannot save ourselves. Repentance takes time, and our lifetime is not enough to complete it. But we do not complete it, and God asks us instead to seek and diligently persevere in the time we have. He *will* take us where we need to go, if we will only follow.

    One thing I have found challenging is how the will of people can change if the prefontal cortex (I think it's called) is injured. Their self control changes when that area of the brain is injured. This has been studied. So biology and the will are very much connected. That being said...I still believe in God, who changes human beings by grace.

    Describing space and life on this planet not really taking sand and making a human--Orthodoxy is profound but not a Disney story. About our body and one soul, certainly our bodies, our appearances determines our journeys and our perspectives. If you live deformed, your spiritual self may be very different than that of the good looking person with no issues in the journey of a lifetime. Our bodies influence our spiritual self, that is why reincarnation is not realistic to us.
    The more you know, the more you realize how logical this religion is and yet it is so ancient. Amazing religion.

    Great talk, but one issue i’d have is your disbelief of “purgatory” just because you don’t believe, does not mean it doesn’t exist… Most of the saints went into detail about this wonderful mystery, as few or should i say all, die in the state of imperfection, some more than others, and as God created us to be of a higher degree of Glory, we must obtain that through expiation, and what is the expiation of sin other than suffering!?… Purgatory is the answer and a great gift of God’s Mercy as a second chance for those unfortunate to die in a state of sin… of course depending on how grave our sin is… and for that reason we must frequent the holy sacraments

    God knows if you stick your finger in a light socket you going to get shocked but he doesn't know if you will choose to obey him or disobey him. This is where the test comes in with free will. Likewise God knew that if Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit they would die. However it was up to Adam and Eve if they would eat or not because of their free will. God knew they had free will to choose because he gave it to them. The confusion is to believe that God knows everything when in fact he does not know what your decision will be because that's where Freewheel comes in. We do not believe in predestination either.If what I have stated is wrong then what's the purpose of free will?

    If we were created in the image of God, why would eve have been so easily tempted in the first place? Why was there any lust already within her, before coming in contact with the mouth of the devil. The devil sensed her lust, her imperfection. Where did that lust come from? Did it come from God? If that story is true, God created an abomination even before the devil tempted man. That lust was there before the devil came in contact with her.

    • @truckdriver8416

      The first sin of Adam and Eve was to break a fast. They were told not to eat of a certain tree. They refuse to repent for the sin by blaming each other instead of asking for God's mercy and forgiveness. It's called Freewheel just like the Angels had Freewheel that's how they were able to Rebelle in the first place. God does not make robots to love him. If no one had free will there wouldn't be any such thing as Sin either. How could you have a relationship with someone if they're just a robot? You're welcome

    There's a lot of questionable and superficial doctrine here concerning Adam and Eve. I was hoping an Orthodox would have a deeper understanding of this profound Scripture. He made no mention at all about the actual transformation that occurred, causing God to say "Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil." The curse we experience is a direct consequence of our eyes being opened to our individuality. The first thing Adam and Eve did after eating the fruit was to realize they were naked, which is undeniably a marker of being self conscious. I heard no discussion at all about this deeply important change of consciousness. This remarkably concise myth communicates an extraordinary amount of spiritual truths but has been dumbed down to a nonsensical children's story about legalism, requiring this teacher to make insanely contradictory statements like at 1:02:15 when he says "we have moral death which is the death of the conscience, the loss of the ability to distinguish between right and wrong." Really? Really???? Gaining the knowledge of good and evil caused them to *_LOSE_* the ability to distinguish between good and evil???? And this is also in direct contradiction to the Bible telling us in Romans 2:15 that everyone has a conscience.

    • @TruthBeTold7
      @TruthBeTold7 2 года назад +2

      What are you calling a myth? I hope not Adam and Eve. The Bible narrates them as historical, and the Jews and Christians always viewed them as historical as did the Lord Jesus and St. Paul.

  • @TruthBeTold7

    God as the author of death suggests a strong dualist tendency in God. Process and dualism always seem to go hand it hand.
    Holy Writing teaches that God imposed death as punishment for the transgression. (Gen. 2:17; 3:19). Wisdom 1:13: "For God made no death." Wisdom 2:24: "But by the envy of the devil came death into the world." Romans 5:12: " By one man sin entered into the world and death by sin." Ecclesiasticus 25:33: "From the woman came the beginning of sin, and by her we all die." (Cf. 1Tim. 2:14; Rom. 5:12 et seq; John 8:44). The mythological and allegorical explanation of the Alexandrians and Kabbalists therefore are to be rejected.

  • @Altegore

      @noah ken no, I get that but I can't detach the existence of death from God making everything, possibility of death and sinning included.
      So, technically, God is "responsible" for death cause he designed his creation with in-built possibility of sinning and dying.
      He could have denied such possibilities but didn't.

I love the Orthodox Church but being a disabled veteran on a very small budget living from paycheck to paycheck I guess for me to enter the Orthodox Church would not be feasable because I cannot afford the roughly 10 to 15 thousand dolars for an orthodox burial. I have no choice in te matter and Cremation is my only alternative as was my Father and Mother who loved and bveli8eved in our Lord Jesus Chrsit. Perhaps you can foot the bill for my burial huh?
    It is very easy for people who have the funds to set the standadrd for Chrsitian burial whereas people who are poor have no other option.

      Jantes Inferno Plus, the Church in Bible is referring to all saved believers, not to any building, denomination, committees, councils, papacy or patriarchy. As a saved soul, i am part of Jesus's church or His body. I don't need an intermediary or a human mediator. Jesus ismy only mediator to God!

      People coming from your point of view are almost impossible to discuss any of this with because you have a very difficult time exercising humility and submitting to anything other than your own personal understanding of scripture and your own subjective experience of who you believe Christ is and teaches. There are several layers of unfortunate irony in your comments, but again, getting you to see that is an endeavor of Sisyphean proportions.

      Hence the reason you have not received a reply, I would imagine.

      Shayne Swenson not true. I can be convinced with clear, untwisted, scripture from the Holy Bible. Also, The Holy Spirit is guiding me to what is true and what is false. It is not my own understanding aside from the Holy Spirit. Hence, your church believes that I need your church to know what God thinks because I don't have access to the Holy Spirit direcly. Yet, the Bible is clear that those who are saved have received the Holy Spirit and that is why it is hard to deceive them with your traditions and councils and other unbiblical practices.

    I have been looking at the Orthodox Church denomination and admire many of its positions. However; it does need to rethink this idea on cremation. My wife and I both intend to be cremated and united in the same urn. The preparation for burial does not show any respect of the human body. Funeral homes can make it look good with glue, makeup, scents etc but it is bound for rot unless pumped full of formaldehyde or other agents which are disgusting. Cremation can be just as respectful as any church funeral service. God can restore flesh to my ashes from an urn just as well as from a skeleton.

      How much of this video did you watch? Also, what are you basing the claim that "The preparation for burial does not show any respect of the human body"? Having read and attended the services, it seems very respectful. He did not say that the body being eternally preserved was the standard of respect, so you are putting words in his mouth that this is the purpose. He made very clear in the video that this is about making a statement about the value of the body, but there are also circumstances where this does not apply. If human opinions about what is the right or wise things to do are held has the highest standard, then there is no reason to be looking into any religion or denomination. The crux of most religions, especially orthodoxy, is that our opinions and feelings are not always consistent with what is right, and we need to humbly learn.

      Yeh, uh what you are describing is not an Orthodox burial either. You are describing a capitalistic funeral not an Orthodox funeral.

    ὀψώνιαs = wages. As used in Romans 6:23. “τὰ γὰρ ὀψώνια τῆς ἁμαρτίας”.
